I’m really curious what you are referring to here. What changes to the internet would make online games like WoW no longer work?
There is no reason you can’t have both, and really, if they finally added player housing, but made it only for guilds/raiders, that would undoubtedly be the last straw for a lot of players and cause a huge exodus of solo/world casuals.
No it doesn’t. A lot of games have storage units functioning like banks and the like. I have no idea how either Asheron’s Call or FF14 work in more detail so I just looked it up. Here’s from the Asheron Wiki (and FF14 have even more, so trying to list all functionalities would be pointless):
And all of the larger ones have it. Of course this is being ridiculous about it but that was my point. Folks who complain about “Garrisons having too many utilities” and use that as a reason why it doesn’t count as housing, that’s the definition I was responding to.
No banks (storage), no vendors, no customization of your gear, can’t serve as a hub, and so many other things like that. Games like ESO is built with this in mind so housing works as an extension of these features, but WoW wasn’t. But ultimately this is why people’s definition of “housing” in WoW is ridiculous.
Which is why I pointed out that to fulfill everyone’s definitions, practical applicability, and even using other games as reference (i.e. Archeage) … all you end up with is a tent out in the woods (ergo my half joke, half serious claim that folks are just asking for Vulperan’s racial Make Camp). And games like Archeage was still built with this in mind meaning it works completely differently.
So, no. Even your examples still don’t disprove my point, not even the way you used them. But I have already addressed this when I responded to it here (linking it here so you can read it more easily by just going straight to it):
Just do it how SWTOR does. Everyone there can get a player hour, gets multiple ones and can customize how they wish. Some are like apartments, some are out in the world environment like on hills or caves.
I think it’s highly likely that if player housing were done, the devs would decide to “integrate” it with other game play, like having the plans for things drop in current dungeons. There is the whole issue of where players would get stuff for their house. Would it be from old content, current content, would it be bought/sold through the AH, how hard would it be get various plans, etc.
In Ever Quest 2 my carpenter was so busy making furniture for people’s inns, houses and castles. Main problem I had was most people wouldn’t provide materials, wouldn’t pay current price for materials, and wanted discounts if they ordered in bulk. Before I left the game, I bought my guild a castle and gave enough money to pay for upkeep for it for a couple years.
Certain areas would be off limits as you wouldn’t be able to set a house up.
Y’know, like how you can’t have mounts around certain npcs.
You get auto dismounted.
Same thing for housing areas.
I never meant no storage. It absolutely should and likely would have extra storage. What I meant was it would not have the auction house and daily/weekly quests and things like that. A crafting table would work nicely in the home too I think. A mission table however would not.
Please stop using my post as an example of “people’s definition.” I never tried to specifically define anything. I was only pointing out that it is not going to empty out cities like some people fear. That is literally all I meant.
If you call year-around player retention for most casuals and RP players plus a good portion of the prestige-chasers who will want trophies and awards in their houses?
Player housing is NOT a waste. It all depends on how it is done. If it is like New world, then it is not really that great. If it is done like UO, then it will be awsome!
