Instead of player housing, let the player establish a hamlet in certain old world zones. Then let us kit this hamlet out with all sorts of collectibles you get from doing old world dungeons and raids. Imagine putting a piece of Deathwing over the fireplace in your inn.
Populate your hamlet with famous NPCs and even your alts walking around as NPCs. Every month have a new famous Azerothian visit your inn to let you replay past historical moments from their life as if they are telling you an old tavern tale.
I am not one who really plays house in mmos as I prefer to be out in the world. Even in some of the mmos I still play where player housing is actually useful (ie. in New World you do want to own houses) I will own houses but rarely in them.
Having said that, I think plenty of people really enjoy this feature since this is an mmo afterall, and I think it would be something great to have for those who really want it. As long as it doesnât prevent progression then I am all for it. Even if I donât do anything with it. Popular features like this only helps the game imo.
LOL youâre salty and itâs hilarious. And yeah, they absolutely borrowed it from FFXIV (not SWTOR it works far differently in that game-- WoW is basically copying FFXIVâs Duty support).
Cope cope cope housing will be in game before this trilogy of expansions is over.
World of Warcraft also doesnât lend itself well for player housing. The player character is supposed to be an adventurer. So other than providing a private place to basically just afk what would player housing provide that banks donât?
Matter fact all the professions could be used for player housingâŚtailors to make rugs and curtains⌠Alchemy to make paintâŚblacksmith to make armor standsâŚleather working to make trophies to hang on wallâŚand so onâŚ
This absolutely existed in Asheronâs Call (apartments, cottages, villas and then the mansions for guilds) and exists in FFXIV. It was in AC until the end of the game and it was amazing. I loved my little âapartmentâ in FF. I only gave up FF because I was carrying both it and Wow at the same time and Wow was my favorite. I just didnât have the time to balance both games.
I donât understand the obsession at all but there is a lot of demand for it. I donât think itâs the magic bullet to bring back social aspects of WoW or âsave the gameâ if you think it needs saving. I was very anti player housing for a long time but with the new direction development has taken I do think itâs more likely now than any time since WoD and garrisons.
In Asheronâs Call, there were housing settlements scattered all over the world and portal systems set up to transport to each settlement. It was literally like running around in a town full of houses. You could go in others houses and just look around⌠it was so cool. To purchase a house, you just had to investigate for âopenâ ones (available ones) and then have the writs and currency to buy it. You also had to pay ârentâ each month or you lost your home and everything in it.
With the number of players on a typical server, the player houses will either have to be instanced or extremely limited. If there are house lots that people have to compete for, that would not go over well very. So, if it were done, we would probably end up with instances like garrisons were done so everybody who wants one could have it. Assuming it has a set locations somewhere, and that there is a portal available, there is still the issue of travel back and forth. Even if you can quickly teleport to your house location, there is still the issue of going back to where you were. Or would you only go to your house when you are done doing anything? Like I said in a previous post, I typically park my characters at certain inns based of what I am doing with them. I still donât see how player houses fit in with gameplay for wow. If player housing were introduced, would they located in the new content so they would be ârelevantâ? Again, like Garrisons?
Iâd rather grind player housing than another season of running the same 7 dungeons over and over, again. Assuming of course that they donât tie the currency for player housing to instance running, which they probably will. i.e. âKill Boss X for a chacne to get the plan for the stablesâ .
