Player housing is a waste of time and development resources

Is it a waste? Maybe. Does it have potential? Absolutely. It may not add direct value but it can be added and sprinkled. It is a ‘end game’ that everyone can do or not without a care. Much like M+, Raids, PvP. And would you know it, Pet Battles. Yes, PET BATTLES. That is a end game content. There’s no real purpose to it but it is there, and it has been supported ever since. Why did I bring this up? Because it is “A waste of time and development resources” and yet its been propped up just fine since.

Player Housing will certainly take time and effort for sure but once it is set in, its as easy and supportable, able to add new models to the foundation of the feature, lets say instanced, themed zones to help hold these models such as Night Elven forests, ash-ridden Frostfire Ridge of Draenor while having a housing in a form of a small rocky den to the most fabulous castle that could look much like Stormwind Keep. Those tend to be very permanent and a one time thing. Decorations or things we may be able to add or change are another but then again, so was Pet Battles, they have added beyond 1000 available pets to collect and still going.

This is a kind of thing that has a LOT more potential for players than Pet Battles, it can spur on interesting uses for Professions, items to find and collect, something to earn out of other end game content too. I wouldn’t call Player Housing a waste of time to develop, it will just have a small start before it is seen for how good it can really get. ESO did it right, FF14 did it correctly. WoW can sure as hell do it too. And even if people don’t like it, they don’t have to do it…

Let’s translate all that into one simple sentence OP: I don’t want player housing so I don’t think they should do it.

as a topic that has been floating around for some time, me, my wife, all of my casual mythic raiding guild members (80-100-ish people) are all in agreement and would hate to see this come into game and have no interest in it. we are all og beta vets and we feel that it has no place in wow, especially if it comes at a cost of valuable content that is the bread and butter of this genre (raiding and dungeons).

vote NO to housing

Let’s translate all that into one simple sentence again: I don’t want player housing so I don’t think they should do it.

I’m going from memory here but I seem to recall that after WoD the devs said one of the things they didn’t like about garrisons was that they took players out of the cities.

They want Stormwind and Orgrimmar to feel alive. Same with the current expansion’s major hub, which right now is Valdrakken. Everyone having their own house to hang around in detracts from that goal.

Anyway, you can agree or disagree with their position but I suspect that is the reason.

If they wanted players to not be in the garrisons simple do not let trade chat be there. That was the main reason nobody left was because you had ALL the functionality a city had. Player housing needs to just be a house with a small garden. Designing the house is what makes it fun. Garrisons was no where near what player housing is supposed to be.

A way to fix that would be to not let us gather, vendor, auction, pet battle, gear up, archaeology, teleport, etc., without ever leaving the housing.

All the things that garrisons shouldn’t have done, don’t do those.

Tell us you’re uncultured in mmos without telling us you’re uncultured in mmos

Not arguing with either of these statements. Just saying that is probably the reason there is no housing right now. There’s no doubt they considered it at one time. The garrison and to a different extent the farm in Pandaria were test balloons for instanced housing, but since then they’ve abandoned the pursuit and have encouraged players to idle in cities. Again, we can agree or disagree with that, but I think their reasons are clear.

Great ur anecdotal story with fluff doesnt represent everyone thanks for a bloated nonsensical post saying No.

Elite content is a bigger waste, if anything.

you are welcome. i am very pleased to know that anothers opinion followed with actual agreement from just about all their friends which differs from your own can cause such sadness and anger. lighten up not everyone will agree with you or share your opinion. sucks but thats life.

Too bad you only speak for yourself.

That’s not why. It’s because most of the content was in Garrisons. Other games still have their chat activated in houses or apartments.

It doesn’t need to be restricted to anything. Just don’t have necessary content there. They can get as creative as the engine will allow.

oh my the wow forums lurker is here again. scanning the forums trying to cherry pick lines for his failed trolling attempts.

is it really that hard for you to believe that there are way more people that do not want player housing in wow than there are that do? or you do and you are just here to fail bait threads as usual.

Sorry, you are back.

You don’t have any data to show how many do or don’t want it. So, you are just making stuff up again!

Yes, you are!

0/10 congrats another failed attempt. whats that now? 22567? based off your post count.

either contribute to the topic or get lost. you never have anything positive or negative to say ever. just whine and badger constantly. no time to talk to nothing.

Yeah, you failed in your defense of no player housing. Thanks!

Don’t worry player housing is coming whether you like it or not. (and your made up friends)

Yeah, get lost!

I just don’t buy that it has to be either/or.

Take the time spent on the Trading Post. Not really something anyone demanded. It’s got a custom interface, new currency, custom static world art, custom content every month, and all the coding that goes with it, etc. An ongoing monthly project with its own resource budget, that they seem to have found room for that without cutting anything else. Same with dragonriding as a system. Extra work building a new mount anchor point system for the customization, new art, etc. vs. just plain old flight, but nothing else got cut to accommodate it.

No its not. If the devs can make a space that can hold relevance over future xpacs without making it overpowered that noone hangs out in a major hub then its 100% worth dev time and resources.
