Player Housing Can Save World of Warcraft

The upside of this is we could be doing battles all over Azeroth for whatever reason, using some of that wonderous content that’s dry as the Barrens right now to protect home and family (options for partners and kids,) and not be Champions anymore.

Funny because with their current time engagement policies they could Just copy the Final Fantasy limited plot system, forcing players to keep that sub if they dont want to lose their precious and expensive plot. It would be a huge gold sink too, tokens would be valuable and would make them tons of money. Even more If there were decoration options at the game store.

Maybe they are lazy, or maybe they think It will not work because theres some vocal ppl against the idea.

No it cannot. WoW can be saved by fixing core issures. Revert loot, revert bonus roll, stop making boring content like torghast and timers on everything, LISTEN to community feedback, remove borrowed power and revitalize player’s core skills so you don’t get broken deleting abilities like convoke or rogues killing people in under 2 seconds. Also allow flying from the start after doing the main quests for each zone.

It won’t though.

That’s a lot of text btw/

Finally… a well written and thought out post!

I think your dead on with your intuition on this one, I would hedge my bets enough to say that the entire player base zeitgeist feels that something is inherently missing from this game. Most of us felt it going back to play Classic World of Warcraft where Azeroth itself is the main ‘character/focus’ with the players and story events taking second focus. The way the game is played is simpler and borrowed power comes from pieces of equipment that were hard to obtain.

Now… we can’t return to that because as Ion stated to Preach “if we continue to add additional abilities and talents each expansion things will become too bloated over time” (paraphrase).

Because our borrowed power comes from systems now and not tier sets, crafted pieces or coloured gem socket bonuses, this has basically killed the player economy base.

Getting to the point… player housing only if done right (which is up for interpretation really), would give players a reason to as you say, boost the economy because let’s be real, I would bet at least a third of people’s play time would be motivated for collecting and appreciating the aesthetics of the game.

Player housing would provide this aesthetic desire along with the gold sinks those serious about showing off/flexing their achievements would bring. So while gold mostly does not come from selling meta crafting pieces and gems for socket bonuses (just gonna give a nod to leggo base items as this was a step in the right direction by blizzard), it will come from purchasing decorative and craftable items for said player housing.

I really see what you see here OP and I really think this is a good pitch.

I think this is important because since cross realm accessibility and LFR have essentially killed manual group forming on a local realm based level. This would be something that helps create community social cultivation because mingling with your cross realm buddies would embrace chilling in one’s crib basically.

You are right, it would totally be a system, a positive system that fills the gap between content droughts that we are currently experiencing.

All content cleared? Don’t want to level ban alt and do it all over again? PvP or PvE not your thing? Work on purchasing wood and bricks for your crib from the auction house!

Kinda this for me. I don’t care if they add it but it doesn’t appeal to me in anyway.

Great thread. I agree.
I do think it should come with some form of lure, like a gain from going to your player house but at the same time avoid becoming what garrisons were which them having everything you needed thus you never left it.

Also I could definitely see it being an amazing idea to have race-themed houses/decor as well as class and profession themed decor.
Like I’d love for my dwarve’s house to feel all dwarven-esque with large hints of blacksmithing and small hints of their class or so. Items maybe introducing class/race quests and profession quests. Could create some nice content around it really.

Yep true player housing would be nice,
I have friends that play SWTOR and RIFT just for the housing… They can not be the only ones that do that… If wow had actually player housing that was implemented right… And - - - - - - >(Garrison was nowhere near player housing)

I would love player housing, especially an apartment in Silvermoon accessible through a portal on one of the big doors to nowhere.

Housing will only be fun if other players are allowed to attack and destroy it.

Player housing isn’t going to save WoW. Blizzard had their chance at it and we got garrisons. Meanwhile in SWTOR you can customize player housing to be PvE and PvP gathering areas if you wanted. No there are far more issues then player housing bringing down WoW…hic!

I really hope someone from Blizz sees this, definitely worth a read :slightly_smiling_face:

Its not gonna happen they will just continue to recycle content its easier/cheaper for them.

I played Rift too, but you are failing to mention the cost associated. How much of that housing cost you real money? Most of it. They pushed the player housing more when they went FTP, and even now they have no new content, yet still sell new housing items.

Not to mention housing ADD. It’s a thing, people would be too busy focusing on making their dimension pretty to actually prep for raids and such, but I know, those rose colored glassed make you recall it differently I bet.

Its Blizzard, if they introduce player housing to the game then you know they will screw it up… It will be heavily TimeGated, have some kind of Weird housing Faction grind, that only getting exalted in will actually let you have the house. Then to unlock upgrades and cosmetics you will have another Timegated Rep grind… The best part is none of this will be account wide…

I agree… I liked the idea of Battle Pet dungeons… I wish they had expanded on it and even gave us the ability to team up with other players to do team battle pet content… but anyways.

They really missed a opportunity with Torghast to make content that kept solo/dungeon/raid gameplay on the same even playing field reward wise.
I know… people are going to scream that solo players should not get mythic + and raid difficulty rewards… but why? Solo players are a thing… they are part of our community… they pay the same as us… is it really going to hurt for them to be forced to do challenging content or time consuming content to achieve gear? I’d hate to say it… but… with how poorly received the RNG drop changes were… wouldn’t it have been nice to have a alternative way to gear up while also raiding and/or doing mythic dungeons?

They could have easily done this with Garrisons… but alas… they didn’t and only gave us a cookie cutter system that allowed no new flavors or player design choices.

It was a huge fail because… it wasn’t housing. The most you could customize was what, the music that played in your garrison and 1 or 2 statues?
