They charged millions for additional bank slots and people have the expectation that housing is going to be cheap and easy? lol
just like real life you’ll have a place to live but wont have expensive things… Like if you think this wont be a gold sink you’re either delusional or dumb
They got two options,
either they use achievements and warbands to unlock things or they run the microtransation route.
With MS in charge I am sure they will cash in big with that feature, so expecting anything to be free and achievable with your characters is a big IF. You may get a shack for free, with a chair and a storage box not bigger than your 20 slot bag.
Anything else from additional storage, layouts and NPCs, stables or a garden will most likely cost a lot of real money cash.
I HOPE they give a skill-based option for earning a house.
the poors get a little broom closet, while big pimps like myself get the big mansion with the bronto in the yard.
Big difference though is if a major feature becomes ignored by a lot of players, it’s a waste of development time. Also if it’s TOO unfriendly, it wont even be a selling feature for the expansion.
Warbank I only bought 2 tabs. At those prices, I don’t care to buy anymore then that.
I honestly would be more worried if the Housing Decorations are tied to achievements. Like, getting AotC or PvP Conqueror. While it is fine that they have some of those, the worst thing you can do with someone that wants to play decoration, is lock furniture behind achievements that are hard to get, even more to the casual audience, and creates FOMO.
The price will probably be expensive, and I am right there with you. I am always fluctuating between 120-180k over the entire expansion, never going above or lower than that, and I know I am piss-poor. People like to say “You can make money easy, just put time into it.” but they are so used to the grind that they don’t recognize that putting 1-2h day into a grind is not how someone wish to spend their limited gaming time.
… Even less dealing with the boredom that such a thing is. Of course, making Gold will always reward the Grinders, but it is better to plan out to have some decent amount stocked since we have no idea how we will be getting it. Who knows? Maybe even be free and instead we pay gold for customizations.
I don’t see housing costing more than 100k for the house itself (though I’d guess it’ll actually be around 50k). Decorations are probably gonna be where the sink may be, depending on what you want to get. Bonus spending if they add a lot of profession-crafted decorations.
The only thing they simply can’t do is make it fully instanced where you are completely alone like garrisons. If they do that, the feature is already nearly DOA, imo, since allowing people to come in to your house will feel just as clunky as garrisons.
They also can’t make plots limited like FF14, as the number of players itching for this (and total playerbase in the game) is far larger and would cause outrage.
It’s a very interesting technical challenge for them to solve, overall. Probably why they need an entire year+.
Maybe it will cost enough gold that most players only buy one. Or maybe they limit the number per account and gold isn’t a barrier. Or maybe server space isn’t an issue but there’s expensive upgrades. Who knows.
Honestly, the Garrison fail wasn’t being instanced. It was the fact that every important game feature was in the Garrison. AH was in the Garrison, Mission Tables, Profession stuff, etc. Housing should absolutely have NONE of those things. Only decoration and NOTHING gameplay-wise should be added to it.
ESO plays around with instanced housing located on the Map, where you always join the House of the party leader. It wasn’t a bad or clunky feature at all but limited in relation to XIV with the Neighbourhood system. But the Neighbourhood system comes with the issue of being limited.
SWTOR had a list of each available open house of each category bought that you could browse and decide to join in, that could also be something done.
It is indeed interesting to see how they will tackle those problems.
m+ and raid both will cost more than you can make while doing it. just staying buffed will drain heavily and then barely any comes in.
m+ all day and rebuffing everything every hour costs a pretty penny especially if you do it all week.
the activities where you dont need to be buffed and money comes in steadily don’t feel very serious for someone wanting to push io score
ofc it’s easy to make money if none comes out
We just don’t know. Will it cost gold? Will it be a door in Stormwind to a room? Can we decorate and with what? Can we show off our achievements or tmog collection? We just don’t know.
hope I get to display all my toys I’ve collected over the years, and maby some other cool stuff.
Like plaques that show when I got FOS.
My first epic wepon hangin over the fireplace
I can come up with a crazy long list of things I’d like to do with my little home near the brook in the forest.
tho I do fear we will all get stuffed into public housing in the inner city
These are fair takes. The people I play with all mostly have experience with FF14’s housing and prefer the community-like aspect that is made available by neighborhoods. Back when I tried SWTOR’s housing, I didn’t like it because it still felt incredibly lonely just happening to be the only one visibly living there, so my view tends to align with that.
Whatever they’re cooking, I’d bet it’s already been in development for a few years to even be close to ready to launch in a year and a half-ish with Midnight. They may have started the concepts back when FF14 saw its popularity spike due to the Shadowlands exodus.
Maybe hopium, but it’ll need that much effort to succeed IMO.
here’s an early sample of what to expect.

What I would like to do with mine is some kind of Bazaar!
I like the Kobold caves in The Ringing Deeps a lot. There are some vacant, where they have camp supplies spread around, treasures, and such. It’s always a joy to find one, and I would love to make my House something of the sorts.
I don’t think there’s been any indication in anything Blizzard has done that player housing will be “just for” the rich.
I’m sure they’ll sell cosmetics in the store from time to time, and I’m sure a majority of housing cosmetics will be acquirable in game, as most cosmetic items are.
Imagine if it costs IRL money.
$20 for a small $50 for a medium and $100 for a large.
All furniture is also irl money. $1000 for a fully furnished mansion (large) with all available furnisher. Which is 20% off if you bought them all individually.
Try doing Mythic+ high keys/Mythic Raid every week and see how much gold you have left over after repairs/pots/oils etc
I don’t find any of the above taxing whatsoever and I don’t really ever go out of my way to farm.
I’ve made a few crafted pvp items and crafted pve weapon and cloak. Misc mats and items from the ah. I’m still net positive 800k+ this xpac.
Just gotta harvest when you are out and about.
