And you can’t simple support people in-game who want to improve the game in small ways, instead of relying on the developers to do their job.
You just can’t ask for what you need in your group.
It won’t bother me. But I can see why people who are inconvenienced are going to participate less. Was that the intent? Maybe.
Fact: Blizzard likes to come up with meta-solutions that end up impacting lots of players rather than targeting the ones they want to affect.
And next you’ll be lecturing us on how it would be perfectly reasonable for blizzard to tell us what kind of washing machine we should have to buy.
Why does he have to buy a new phone for a game stop
If blizzard wants you to get 1 then fkin blizzard can buy you a new phone
Why should Blizzard support outdated and legacy tech? They don’t support Win95 and Xp anymore nor 32 bit tech.
Perhaps it’s time to upgrade from that plug-in rotary dial telephone you’re using.
You can, you just choose not to.
Luddites such as yourself, people playing on ‘gaming rigs’ cobbled together from a couple discarded, 15-year-old workstations, with a smartphone that was new over seven years ago (I can’t help but imagine that it was already outdated by the time you picked it up secondhand), are a vanishingly small fraction of a percentage of WoW’s playerbase. So small, in fact, that it isn’t worth Blizzard’s time or effort to cater to your almost Amish tech sensibilities.
Crack open your dusty, disused wallet and update your hardware. All of it.
Run Android OS on a Virtual Machine and install the Authenticator App on it.
He doesn’t have to. He can still play the game just fine without an authenticator
I don’t see how this is any different than the way that Blizzard updates the minimum computer specs for the game every once in a while. And that’s to play the game at all! This is for one single aspect of the game that is still perfectly useable without custom text or by joining other people’s groups instead of starting your own, if you insist on letting your account hang out there like, “Steal me!”
Upgrade phone
I agree with OP here.
I think there should be other solutions rather than having to purchase a new cellphone and installing an app. I’m still using a key-fob authenticator and I am surprised that certain features of the game have now been locked out to me ‘just because’.
The amount of people who either can’t or don’t want to use mobile authentication is significantly higher than you think, but still only a small portion of the overall player base.
What surprises me the most is given the large exodus of players from Blizzard games in the last 3-6 months due to the poor game design or the sexual harassment lawsuit you would think they would try and retain the 5% of people they have now pissed off.
Some will find a way to get the app, some will just not have access to certain features of the game, and for some this will be the tipping point that leads to them leaving the game.
I’d prefer people not to leave, but Customer Service and Retention has not been a focus for Blizzard for a very long-time (in my opinion).
OP - Complaining on here might make you feel better, but Blizzard doesn’t care, and the majority doesn’t care, your just feeding the trolls now
Look
This change was to help combat boost spamming in LFG. That’s what people wanted. Now when they implement a change to help with boost spamming in LFG, people complain. What are they supposed to do?
Yall can’t have it both ways.
Of course you can have it both ways, there several suggestions in this post proposing solutions. For example - allowing those with Key-Fob authenticators to have the same access as those with Mobile authenticators is really not that difficult to implement. Blizzard has been short-sighted and made their decision. So we’ll either get on board, or deal with the restrictions, or leave. (Or complain on the forums lol).
The handful of players vocal about run sellers are more important than you. They’d rather impact 100% of the player base with this heavy-handed solution. It’s utterly ridiculous.
Now, queue the trolls who think I am against 2FA…
You and I have a very different definition of heavy handed
This is a minor inconvenience at best
Something I found out today. Apparently emulators won’t work because the app requires a connected phone number and prepaid numbers won’t work. Only contract ones.
Wait, we can’t use the mobile authenticator unless we have a contracted plan?
I’ve used the authenticator keyfob since they were released, I was planning on switching over to the phone one here soon because I’m expecting the battery in the keyfob to finally give up the ghost. But I use Mint for my cell service, because I refuse to pay a ridiculous amount (like I was previously with ATT). I don’t have a contract with them I’m just prepaid for the year. If this is the case this is super annoying.
Try .00001%
This forum was already a minority, not even 5% of the playerbase posts here, and there’s what, a dozen people that are complaining about this. So, actually it’s not even .00001% it’s even less.
Most folks keep with the times, they have a smart phone which is fairly up to date, they have a computer that meets the minimum requirements. If you’re choosing to hobble yourself by not updating your tech, that’s a YOU problem. Not a Blizzard problem.
Players who use Cricket or another provider for their cell phone now have to change their cell plan in order to accomodate a video game’s idiocy. A video game company has no damned business telling me what cell provider I choose or what I have to put on my device. None at all.
The game is severly limited if you can’t post custom titles and descriptions to get the right people to apply. This is an MMO. People are necessary for all of the end-game content.
Consider the following: no they don’t.
You can still use the LFG feature exactly like you did before, you just can’t edit your title.
Exactly. Make some friends. Play with a guild. Find groups in discords. Advertise in trade, etc
