I agree with that. I like slow for finding dirt piles and questing.

Yes, all you get from skyriding is gusts of wind.

Skyriding when a world boss is up or a world quest is about to expire.

Regular flying to casual leveling, farming, or just appreciating the art team’s work.

Skyriding for traveling, steady flying for searching.

Not everyone is into racing. I always avoid those quests. I do not find them fun at all. After Ion told us that dragonracing was going to be casual content, and we were going to be competing to be on ladders so they could judge casuals on how well they did casual content, let’s just say I found that a turnoff.

The first time I encountered dragoriding was during the first free trial. I got as far as that quest. They gave me a long list of things to memorize instantly. I floated to the ground. I had no idea of how to get back up to the platform I had left from. I hearthed out and didn’t go back. And didn’t buy DF.

Take 2, about a year later: I now have DF on one of my accounts. Now I see they have added a “stopwatch” that will put you back at the location you started from. I tried it. It gave an error message. Good work. I looked for videos on youtube to help with the flying, but the only ones I could find were made by players who had fully mastered it, and all they were showing was “how to find glyphs”.

Take 3: I got so tired of the game changing back my flight style to normal flying. Several times a day. If you choose normal flying on the toggle, the choice is not persistent. Totally heavy handed. And now it turns out you need an addon to make it fully functional? HAHAHAHAHA…

regular flying hands down. I suck at skyriding lol and I like to be able to fly and afk away from mobs. Plus it is so much easier to land on herbs and mines

I toggle between the two depending on what I need to do. It’s one click if a button.

I have only used skyriding since it was implemented. VVVROOM.

No addon needed and when I say racing I mean over cities without the quests. Yeah, impromptu sky tag is fun.

Sky riding is easy, ascend or surge to get thrill of the sky, point slghtly down to keep thrill of the sky buff going. Boom, you learned to sky ride. If you loose momentum or the buff, just ascend once to regain the buff.

Once you get going, it literally is just auto flying and just pointing with your mouse.

I fly out of reach and land up high when I afk. To land on herbs or mining, I usually halt before I land. But mostly it isn’t needed for me. But halt really helps to hover down to the node.

Skyriding, always. Never really understood the need to switch to steady flying for gathering, landing on the node has never been an issue

I use Regular flight 99% of the time.
I only switch to dragon riding when I’m trying to tag a rare or something similar.

I guess as I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost my twitchy reactions, I end up crashing into the pipes pretty often when skyriding. In fact, coming back after a 12-year hiatus has been a bit overwhelming with all the new buttons you need to press to not hold groups back with awful DPS; but, that’s another story and a different topic entirely.

It’s less about twitchy movement and more use right click and hold on your mouse and slowly move the camera around. That leads the flying. More like threading the needle with smooth slow movement than twitchy jerky movements.

Skyriding if I need to get across the continent. Steady flight the other 99.7% of the time.

If I am going to Hawai’i, Tavarua, or Japan I prefer flight, then boat, because I am not going to swim that far.

I go at Hawaiian speed, all day, every day

I use both.

I use skyriding for travel, and regular for quests, looking for pets or needing it to slowly skim looking for something.
