People leaving keys is a BIG problem. New NOTE system

The honor system in Overwatch basically turned into “play a tank or healer, get honors”.

Introduced an honor based system, where you could commend players for good play, teamwork, etc. Realistically though, people just honored the tanks and the healers and maybe the DPS if they giga-carried.

The system overall didn’t really mean anything. Instead of being a good rule of thumb of whether the player would be fun to play with, it basically boiled down to being able to tell at a glance how many mains of each role you had on your team before people locked in.

Honor 2-3 (most people) DPS mains. Honor 4? Tank/Healer mains. Honor 5? Literal no-life Mercy or Reinhardt one-tricks. If someones level 1, that basically means they’re a smurf, but you could already tell that by the account level anyway.

Cause BG’s (and random dungeons/LFR) are in an automated matchmaking system. You can’t choose who you’re grouped with, so Blizzard introduce deserter to stop you fishing for good groups.

Whereas for non-automated matchmaking (rated PvP, raids, M+), you choose who you play with, so caveat emptor and whatnot.

Pretty much this.

Though going on a tangent, something I’ve always found interesting is that in League of Legends, the community has a bad rep for being toxic, but statistically that behaviour is anomalous. That dude who is flaming or afking or running it down? In 95% of his games he’s a perfectly normal player.

The amount of repeat offenders in the system is very low, but sheer volume means that you’re going to run into people having a bad game fairly frequently, hence the reputation.

Bringing it back to relevance, having a note system for M+ would be pointless because I’d imagine most leavers would be in a similar boat. Even if someone runs 100 keys without leaving, if they leave YOUR key, that’s going to be a feelsbad moment.

I don’t think the dude in OP’s key was having a bad day, that sounds more like deliberate trolling than anything else. But how often do you run into people who leave that early?

I think I’ve had it happen to me maybe two? three? times Since M+ became a thing. Like it undoubtedly sucks, but a note system seems kinda pointless when the “legit” leavers (PC/internet died, key got stonewalled, something came up, etc) would drown out all the really bad actors with white noise.

M+ desertion should give a 24 hours debuff that does nothing but show people in the group finder that you’re a deserter. One of my big issues with the game in 9.0 that turned me really sour on the expansion was people deserting good runs in bad faith. Especially in 9.0, there was a huge wave of attacks on the game service in general, it seemed like 20% of the people looking at the group finder at any one time were seeking to suicide bomb a pug 15. I think it was directed and intentional beyond trolling.

Only if the people in the group being terrible also get a debuff so people in the group finder know about that too.

If you see someone not doing something right, offer them some advice. What would cause you to expect everyone to know the exact same number of things as you?

You can tell people things all you want, but you can’t play their character for them. If we are wiping at the same place for the same reason over and over. It is completely unreasonable to expect someone to stay.

Sure you can, tell them their skill priority :stuck_out_tongue:

That doesn’t make them push the buttons correctly. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless you could verify the person leaving I don’t think this would work.

I am all on board for trying to stop people trolling and ruining people’s keys, hence wasting their time, and messing with their playing experience. But as others have said, this is way too easily abused.

The ones that leave the most are from Ragnaros because one wipe or even a death or two and they leave. The other culprits are Azralon, Quel-thalas, Nemesis, and Gallywix…Huh arent those the same servers who also have a massive track record of terrible players?

keys were meant for friends and guildies, not the pug life. You can either make some friends and guildies or accept the way of the pugs.

Jim: “Give me that Belt”

Bob: “No.”

Jim, John, Jack and Jake: x4 reports on Bob. Leaves note: Ninja pulled several times. Trolled. Left early.

I’ll say the same thing here I’ve said a thousand times before.

I think in the entirety of shadowlands and s4 BFA I’ve had maybe 1 in 50 keys end because someone left.

If people are leaving your keys extremely regularly, you need to reevaluate why they are leaving, not flame them for doing so.

I don’t think they have had the pleasure of “because”

In a normal leveling dungeon, you know leveling. 3 60’s and me and other legit leveling sub 60.

Kick vote comes up. “because” was the reason for the other leveler.

This player and I didn’t even have a chance to mess up. also its normal…our gear is weak vice a decked out 60. The 3 60’s were steamrolling. I ignored the vote. then I got a load screen. Pretty sure I was “becaused” too.

Yep.
Same story with people that complain about being vote kicked.

I’ve played WoW for 10+ years. I’ve been vote-kicked maybe a dozen times. And most of them are because I was too pre-occupied with something (IRL, another tab, etc.).
And although I’ve not done many M+ in SL, back in Legion and BFA I did several a week and maybe have like 2 memories of people leaving.

Nobody. Absolutely nobody enjoys wasting their own time.

Kicking someone wastes my time. Unless they’re being detrimental to the group.
Leaving a M+ has wasted my time. Unless that group was doomed.

Someone shouldn’t have to endure a 20min over time run because you want to boost your friend, or try tanking a +15 for the first time without ever Tanking before.

Wouldn’t totally be abused and used for harassing people. Which would then be against blizzard TOS, which would then get IO axed.

Yeah the app developer isn’t that stupid.

Don’t invite them again. If people are leaving groups you are usually in…then I’m not sure they are the problem when you or you and your buddies seem to be the common denominator.

I will support it if you support a “I’m so bad at the game people left the key writing off thier time already spent just to get away from me” debuff.

The leaver system on OW is horrible and leavers continues to increase each season. BUT, that is OW and now that I think about it, it could work for WoW probably better than it does in OW with x amount of leaves in a season then they get banned from m+ the rest of the season.

But on the flip side, people pay a monthly sub here and banning them from content won’t fly too well. I think the only thing that could work is having them lose x amount of their m+ score if they leave. Should only affect the first person who leaves as when they do then the others are free to leave without any penalty.

That would encourage people to play less to lower the risk of reaching the threshold.

So sit afk and go make lunch while in the dungeon so you don’t get the punishment then. Trap the other 4 people in the key. Got it…

The problem with any system that I have seen people suggest (and there have been many) is that they are too easy to abuse or misuse and end up punishing the wrong people.

Exactly. NO system is going to be perfect. You are stuck with “leave as is and stop crying then” or if you can think of a system by all means go for it instead of criticizing. Let’s hear your ideas so I can pick those apart.
