pathfinder has always just been about the devs throwing a temper tantrum power play.
I remember seeing them teleport around until they learned how to dragon ride. I think there are videos online still of it somewhere.
I don’t think it’s about difficulty so much as it’s about fairness. Most people get to fly at the start, some people don’t. And sure you can write it off as “life’s not fair” but this isn’t life it’s a video game meant to be played for fun and entertainment. “If it’s not fun then they should look for another game”. Well let’s explore that
I don’t think people truly realize what’s lost by $15 a month here, $15 a month there, maybe $30 or $45 or $60 or $75 a month… wow 6 people gone we’re at almost $100 a month lost already. Blizzard’s development and operating costs don’t decline with the loss of income. Yet we still keep asking for new things and improvements and updates and innovation while they lose customers, well more players get disappointed and more money is lost in more lost subs, one day maybe even yours There is a domino effect to making even a seemingly benign population of paying players unhappy enough to quit.
I honestly think they haven’t made flight available on day one after all the years of blowback because, for whatever reason, they can’t but I’m not a game developer so I won’t speculate why.
I mean I dunno in MOP Remix I’m using the old flying way more than the new. In fact I haven’t even used the new in Remix lol
EDIT: I like the new because it’s super fast, but it’s not as useful for questing I think.
THe new version of dragon riding will be allowed it’s just the old school flying you’ll need to do the opening patch campaign , zones and reach max level for.
If they revert the pathfinder requirement (which is simply playing the game now), it is always comical to see the same names who messed all over the devs & Ion do a complete reversal and say they are the greatest everrererer when they get what they want.
Yeah, it completely ruined BC and WOTLK, i don’t think any single addition to the game has done more harm than flying…

Its kept around to give people something trivial to complain about.
Without TBC flight you would be limiting your audience and blocking out those who do suffer from real life health issues is wrong.
I know all of this, and this is what folks have wanted and the devs as well. So this ain’t the thing. I’m just confused which streamer popularised “Let’s hate on TBC flight being limited because of its horrifically averse effects on the community and world building, but let’s use people’s disabilities as a way to do so”.
Because… Pathfinder ain’t anything to do with accessibility. TBC flight is a tool for it yes, but in no way whatsoever is pathfinder a limiting factor for this. Because if it was, then this would’ve been decried literally a decade ago but it wasn’t. Because the world was, and still is, designed so you can do all of the main storylines via ground.
None of this has to do with anything other than fake virtue signaling, as showcased by the number of people saying “differently abled” instead of disability or disabled people. Because guess what, no person with a disability refers to it as an ability. And referencing the ADA is just folks going WAY over the top of it.
I know what you said here doesn’t exactly refer to what I mentioned above, but a lot of it is at least related. So read that first, because hint …
Everyone has access to flying at the start of The War Within. If people need it, for whatever reason they do, most folks with disabilities tend to play games with other people - sometimes out of necessity but often because folks get into games with other friends. The odd ones out are of course there but again, everyone can do the bare minimum of the Campaign and explore the region.
We have seen nothing to indicate that they are going to deviate from this since even in Dragonflight where they could’ve done this, they didn’t. You can do all of the main quests without the use of Dragonriding, especially now’a’days when we also have additional connections.
The point here is this:
Whether folks like the Pathfinder requirement or not, it is reasonable and it isn’t a question of accessibility. And no, folks don’t quit over stuff like this. That’s just a talking point for places like these forums. Because hint, if it actually did cause a dip in subscription counts then Blizzard wouldn’t EVER continue with the Pathfinder requirement which is also why they implicitly removed the requirement … by simply not making it available at all until it no longer mattered, and thus the negative impacts on TBC flight was heavily diminished.
All of this at the end of the day is about overall game design. Ain’t nothing to do with accessibility.
I really appreciated the idea behind Pathfinder.
Its the execution that i have had problems with.
Do some extra steps and get flight unlocked for all your characters.
Sweet, sounds good to me.
Kool, kool ,okay heres a list of 10 things that need to be done.
Okay… I can do this
Oh but theres a catch… steps 6-9 cannot be completed until after patch X.2.5 and step 10 unlocks at patch X.3.2!
WTH!?
True, my take on it is I usually wasn’t flying my first time through anyway. I do all the quests and side quests. So exploring and doing quests is not a big deal for me. I get that it feels unequal to dynamic flying with their unlocks. But I probably won’t be doing either right away. So it’s just no skin off my back.
“Sky swimming” is not a thing. Not a single mount looks like it’s swimming while in flight. Not even one.
How about if there had never been flight at all, and they had removed ground mounts to make people like you happy that everybody would have been as miserable as you?
You are whining.
This statement is beyond FALSE. Come in the TWW the only requirement is
REACH MAX LEVEL
EXPLORE THE FOUR LEVELING ZONES
DO THE FOUR LEVELING CAMPAIGNS
How is it that much of a work?
Someone has not played WoD or leigon…
Im not talking about the TWW easy mode.
Sheesh the indignant ignorance!
Those pathfinder already have been deactivated for a while now. And also you didn’t specified which expansion pathfinder.
Yah’.
This is literally just another classic case of folks pretending there is an issue where there isn’t one. I just get really pissed off at it because… seriously, why do folks feel like “Oh hey, the guy there in a wheelchair. He can’t use dynamic flight because of it!” (I’m being facetious, but the kind of virtue signaling happening is genuinely on those levels and it is frustrating as all hell).
Genuinely curious, do you know why they added flying into the game at all…?
Whilst we don’t have a statement confirming it, we do have a particular statistic that we can logically deduce literally has to be the reason. So… just me curious, do you know what that statistic is?
To be fair, if you are lagging and go into druid flight it looks like your character is swimming thru the air
If “sky swimming” is bad for the game, then “sky riding” is 10 times worse. you can skip the same content just at a faster pace. Anyone who claims otherwise is being utterly disingenuous and clearly bias. Flying is flying, if one type of flying is bad then all types of flying are bad.
