My digression
Hi, I’m in the US Navy.
I missed the front half of the start of patch week and yesterday, as of July 9, I unlocked flying.
I have 12 120s and I’ve got a plan to use focused play time to do their follower quests for those that need Lucid as an essence to focus on, and the rest I just do their pearl farm and swap.
I’m planning on just playing a few classes that I find fun since Warriors are trash, but if I can work an 8 hour shift, stand a 5 hour watch, find time to sleep, and still manage to get flying in roughly 2 weeks, those of you in the civilian sector who have the luxury of free time can do it much faster than I can.
Pathfinder is alright as a means to gate flying. I’d rather drop 5k gold and buy it like back in every other expansion, but hey, whatever. It is what it is. I thought the Pandaria way about it was “Get rep with this faction doing dailies regularly Then you can get a BoA flying book” was pretty good because it was a wonderful way to still have a dedicated main without needing to spend tons of time on alts.
tl;dr Navy schedule, missed 4 days of grinding and the first Ankoan emmissary, and still got flying in about 2 weeks. Put the work in, earn it.
edit: We literally have had the Darkmoon Faire going for the second week that Part 2 was achievable. Use your resources. Do the quests, pop out to grab the DMF buff, turn in the quests. Every quest worth 250 rep is now 275, and your emissary quest is worth 1650 rep.
Putting the work in doesn’t mean you have to be obsessive, and do nothing else for 2 weeks. Letting a game disrupt your life that much isn’t healthy.
So if I say there is a problem with Pathfinder being locked behind reps, I am acting entitled and just want things handed to me? But if you say there is a problem with profession upgrades being locked behind dungeons, you aren’t?
if I were grinding in a game, it’d be God of War, before Kratos leaves the ship to start his journey. With the ship’s crewmaidens.
FFXIV gates flying in the expansion zones in a far more understandable way. You have to search for “wind currents” in each zone and complete certain quests in the zone that are locked behind progressing through the zone. After you do this, you can fly in that specific zone. You do the frickin content, you get to fly in that zone. MIND BLOWING!!!
“Do daily quests for a few months” It’s an obvious ploy to get you to spend more months playing the game.
Now, Blizz is a business, naturally their goal is to have you play the game longer and give them more money. But it’s abundantly clear the way they are doing this is not in trying to create enjoyable content people want to do for a long period of time- but in locking the things people find fun behind lengthy, boring, repetitive tasks like dailies that everyone hates BUT are extremely easy for the lazy dev team to churn out.
Even the non daily quests this patch feel like dailies- the zones are bland in lore and appearance- and even the raid has over a week of dailies gating access.
They aren’t trying to make a fun experience for us- they’re trying to make a time consuming one. This is a company solely dedicated to cutting costs and boosting revenues. Again- that’s fine, but they don’t care about making a good game, they don’t care about their reputation, and they definitely don’t care if we’re having fun.
Where’s the Mage Tower? Too difficult to make fun solo content?
Where’s the story lines that make sense? In cutscenes and books we have no part in?
Where’s the character development? Not in villains that pop up and are whacked like moles at a carnival. Not in zones where all you ever do is menial tasks for people you will never see again. Not in world quests which make up most of the content, and can be broken down to ‘oh, there’s a thing, kill it cuz it’s there’.
Garrosh, as beloved as he was by half the horde, was putting Horde heads on spikes, he tried to kill Vol’jin who was actually doing things for the Horde (not the Alliance), he awakened an old god in pursuit of the power to conquer.
Arthas, plagued our cities, destroyed most of the northern EK, was a threat to all life, and was in dungeons and raids alike trying to stop us or make us his slaves.
They were there, they were built.
G’huune… killed a turtle, and maybe could be a threat. Aszhara- rich lore, but in this xpac does nothing at all, until she parts the ocean for a few ships and… again, nothing. Sylvanas, do we even know her motivation before we kill her? She killed some Alliance, her enemies- she dealt with traitors, she sacrificed allies to gain an edge. Ultimately, she hasn’t done anything genuinely against the Horde- she’s definitely done things against the Alliance, but at this point, once again, there’s no real build up as a logical villain.
This entire xpac has been as pointless as WoD- but at least WoD had the nostalgia factor.
I can’t fathom flying being a make or break issue. It’s like so far down the list of things I care about in the game. I feel bad for all the people who get so tilted by this.
Maybe for you. Over 2 weeks and I am still at it L: (
Wuh? So you are saying that you never got ganked while fighting some random mob by someone on a ground mount, but always saw it coming lol. No it was always from someone on a flying mount lol. Thought pvp players liked living on the edge? You know like always expecting the unexpected lol. You were not prepared! Illidan could of probably helped you prepare maybe lol.
Lmao.
Be more literal please. Of course I got ganked, but more often than that, I could see them coming (played druid and rogue with stealth, plus paladin and priest). So with the first two, I’d check for enemy faction before breaking stealth (not perfect, but it helped). With the other two, since fights could be so long and were usually so filled with white damage, I’d rotate my camera a lot to see if someone was coming. Again, not perfect, but it helped.
Also, even at level 30, I stood a chance of running to guards if close enough, or having someone from my faction showing up before I died. At level 58-61 in Hellfire, I never saw them coming, and the damage differential was so high that I barely had time to know I was being attacked before I was dead. It just got worse with each expansion as max level got more and more powerful compared to level 20 to 40 to 60 alts.
Why lmao? If you doubt that I played in Vanilla, check that character’s profile, or this one’s. Both have titles that I don’t think you can get anywhere but vanilla.
Have a single Pathfinder, make it slightly harder… but award flying for that set of zones. Then, if/when they introduce a new zone… Pathfinder pt2, which would be slightly less onerous would then allow flying in that area. It gives a continual set of goals to accomplish and gives us what we want at each stage. SIMPLE.
It gives them their precious “we want people to see and enjoy the content and experience the danger” while also respecting the fact that we have a lot of stuff we have to do at level cap and reward per game hour matters to us. It respects THEIR vision and OUR time. win-win!
Only two other options would be the MoP route, where you earned a specific rep and got it… or the Wrath route where you got it at a certain level with payment.
This whole "Do part 1, so your ground mount can go a bit faster… then do this WHOLE OTHER SET of bull**** in order to unlock all of the flying MORE THAN halfway through an expack.
Never said that. Don’t care about whatever titles you got back in the stone age lol. Just find it hilarious how people constantly throw vanilla out there like it actually matters. I mean willing to bet that are just as many people out there that don’t give a rats a$$ about nilla, classic whatever the hipsters like to call it, as there are that do.
I agree, didn’t bother to go slow and actually read things or pay attention to the story. Was more focused on getting things done so I could log out until things reset the next day. Waiting this long for flying then finally getting it. Kinda has me sick of the game and not motivated to get on. Be ready for it though because unless activ steps in and replaces some of the devs responsible for this. We will end up having to deal with the same garbage next expansion. “Were gonna release pathfinder part 2 later on down the line. Because players should experience the world until there sick of it before they can fly” Rinse and repeat. Change is needed.
I’d just like an explanation of why I have to keep learning to fly over and over again. Once you know how to fly, you know how to fly. Being in a new area doesn’t wipe that out of your memory cells.
I didn’t let it disrupt my life.
I did my quests with the Darkmoon Buff for 4 days with contracts on since I first could use one. I went and hunted rares with my guilds and did all the pet battles.
Doing the pet battles with DMF active on turning in all the quests for the first kill gives you 3-4k reputation, so that’s 25-30% of your Honored->Revered grind.
You forgot the beast rep to ge the theit
In the grand scheme. The current profession. Debacles has far more over reaching effcts on game play than your precious flying.
I would disagree there. Many people simply don’t care about professions anymore with how relatively useless they’ve become. People do care about the loss of flying and then extreme time-gating of restoring it. The attempt to remove flight is probably the single largest disaster in WoW.
That is your opinion. The majority say otherwise.
