I tried overwolf a month or 2 a while ago and installed it .
It totally sucked. Everything they promised …it did not offer.
Did they even quality check it? I am sure it worked out like this…

Seriously this is the worst designed product I have seen in over 25 years.
So if I have an addon that is embedded with an overlay, that means that while I am playing WoW there will be popup ads in the game. I certainly won’t stand for that! The question would be, would Blizzard stand for that?
Im amazed Blizzard still hasnt done a Bethesda and integrate addons into their own system.
Could even monetize some addons like raiderio imagine how much they bank on that.
What did it not offer?
WoW addons don’t have overlays. There won’t be any in game ads.
They aren’t going to spend money doing something that’s already being done for free.
Actually the controversy of Overwolf putting ads in their overlay, wasn’t by overwolf rather HearthArena put the ads in their mod for the overwolf overlay.

Capitalism is all fine and good until corporations become greedy and monopolize the marketplace, pollute the air we breathe and destroy the environment we depend to live in. There is a reason for regulations. Consumers do have a choice until corporations take that choice away.

Same here. The text was so small that I had to squint my 58 yr-old eyes. Even after I made the text bigger I found trying to rearrange the frames very irritating and not helpful. So I deleted the addon.

I didn’t even know “Addon Managers” existed until this stupid non-controversy.
So many of you are just lazy. And parasitic middle-man companies fleece lazy people.
I feel like now would be a great time for something to replace Twitch. Something very pro-player. It’d also probably be the best time to invest in something like that, or maybe not, who knows.
Addon managers aren’t just for lazy people. They’re a fantastic tool which streamline the update and get processes. They also add substantial security where it otherwise probably wouldn’t exist. Twitch adds a host of other options besides.
do you live under a rock? if you use more than a handful of addons you use a manager to manager the update process. Plenty of people use a dozen or more addons and they update every few weeks to months.

Thank God 99% of my add-ons the dev’s post there updates also to github… Made a script and they get updated… Also the add-ons that I do use on a very regular basis I help them out by supporting them on their patron every one should do the same what ever add on manager one uses…

Double click. Use drop down to go to addons folder… Hit extract.
I bet the savvy could write a script to auto extract.
There are several replacements CurseForge, WowUp and Ajour.
