Bobby is laughing all the way to the bank and retirement.
I didn’t say this. You’re clearly not paying attention and are upset that you can’t form a coherent argument to save yourself.
Actblizz has run on very short term mentality for the last 6 ish years. Xbox has been playing a long game during that time. Theyve eated a lot of cost buying all these studios, then even more with gamepass.
Actblizz knew what was happening in the office and didnt do anything about it becuase of the short term cost of losing staff that were making things toxic, causing them to long term lose even more staff and the people they were trying to protect.
The ownership really does matter, especially if it means activision will be decoupled from blizzard.
It must be boredom. There is nothing in any source that paints Bobby in a good light. Not from anywhere in the company or anywhere else.
I meant in the time Kotick is here, he isn’t going to go ‘‘do video games justice’’ or whatever OP wrote. Past that, ya I know the history.
100% this.
We already knew what a pos he was from years back. All this bandwagon outrage on the forums only makes the Kotick-hate posters look like they’re desperate to farm “likes”.
That doesn’t mean every failure can be attributed to him.
Imagine Steve Danuser blaming Bobby Kotick for SL’s bad story. That’s what this reads like. If their work got scrapped, that’s probably because it was bad.
Yeaaahhh… I hope that person likes working as an indie game dev.
Someone who publicly badmouths the CEO is extremely unlikely to survive a company transition and after that I sincerely doubt anyone is going to hire them.
There’s no way for you to know that. People working there know more than you do about the situation.
Canceling work is bad business. Bobby is not a bad businessman, regardless of everything else.
I will rely on common sense rather than the words of some disgruntled employee with an apparent personality disorder.
If Kotick can be blamed for anything, it is probably that no talented people want to work for ActiBlizz any longer for what he is willing to pay. But the problem would still be lack of talent.
I would, again, like to remind all of the Blizzard apologists in this thread that this is not a single employee saying these things.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Activision-Blizzard employees either speaking out against Bobby Kotick and/or staging walkouts and protests. There are hundreds of substantiated articles from people inside the industry detailing Activision’s, and by extension Bobby Kotick’s, iron grip on projects inside Blizzard and other Activision companies.
You can either look these up yourself or you can continue assuming things you have no precedent for.
I am aware that Bobby is not a popular boss. He over works and under pays his employees. But that is also why talented people do not want to work for him.
This topic in particular does not have to do with Bobby. At least not entirely. It is about work being scrapped. And the only reasonable assumption is because it was bad. You can blame Bobby for creating work conditions that no talented employees want to deal with, but you can also blame the employees that are there for being bad.
I can reinforce what she said. It was under Kotick’s watch that a lot of the perks were scaled back for employees. There was a change when Vivendi was bought out by Activision, and it was not a good one.
I guess we should thank Furor in a round about way for this. Scumbag he might be, but he and the rest of the clowns that enabled him achieved one solid thing. They created the storm that finally made the kraken release the ship from it’s grasp.
Sorry you had to be in that situation Kennedy. I know how frustrating that must of been.
I hate to break it to you but many projects have gotten cancelled for various reasons at the company.
You can rely on whatever you want. It gives you zero insight. And as far as Kotick, he earns lots of money. That doesn’t make him good for gaming. Which is all he’s being accused of. And was something he admitted to himself.
Maybe with Microsoft $ they’ll be able to get better talent. Because for all Bobby earned for them they were still struggling behind other companies. And one of the reasons was the legal issues that Bobby himself contributed to as well.
What we as players find bad and what Bobby Kotick finds bad are two different things. You are working off the assumption that Bobby Kotick has the player’s best interests at heart, which is why content was scrapped.
Bobby Kotick does not care about the game. He cares about making money and time-played metrics to appease investors. If Bobby Kotick actually cared, we wouldn’t have Shadowlands or BfA, both of which are stacked with filler, garbage content that doesn’t serve a purpose outside of making our /played counter longer.
You cannot reasonably say talented people don’t work at Blizzard. It’s possible that they do, but they can’t make the game they want to make because Papa Kotick wants another garbage time-played metric in WoW instead of focusing on content that’s just fun.
Bobby Kotick himself has expressed shutting down companies in the past simply because they weren’t “exploitable” enough. Do you honestly think that this guy gives two craps about whether or not the content in the game is good for the player?
He doesn’t care about you. Quit being an apologist.
I’m not sure what led you to believe that. I said Bobby is a businessman and that scrapping their work was a business decision. I never said anything to the effect of what you said.
Bobby was obviously playing a short game by overworking employees and paying them little. So any person with options left for greener pastures. This person started working at Blizzard in 2017. She wasn’t there for a single success of Blizzard’s. Only its failures. As I said, judging by her Twitter page, it isn’t hard to imagine why Blizzard is failing with employees like her producing its games. That isn’t alleviating Bobby of any blame. I just doubt Blizzard would be making good games regardless with the employees is currently has. Danuser is a textbook example. You can’t blame Bobby for everything.
Workers being upset at Bobby, (which plenty of people are, not even just workers) says nothing about their work ethic. It says they are tired of what’s been going on at Acti-Blizz. And they are far from alone.
This what you said:
How am I supposed to interpret this if not exactly how I did?
A Twitter page is hardly anything to go off of in terms of someone’s skillsets.
Yes, I can, because literally everyone working there is saying it.
I’m going to believe workers who actually work there and experience it firsthand over some guy on the WoW forums who thinks otherwise.
Do some of you not remember, " Bobby Kotick told investors/analsysts at a tech conference that his goal “was to take all the fun out of making video games.”"
