If we could have a Guarantee that we could switch back to Herod (or the other servers that are full) in the event that the server you are on was dying, then I think a lot of people would actually move. It would make my groups decision easier at the least.
Any realm that is listed above Medium should expect queues at launch, with increasing severity from High to Full.
All East Coast PVE servers are listed as full and all PVE servers are at High population. Where should I be moving my PVE characters to avoid queues? Is Blizzard planning on releasing additional PVE servers to alleviate launch queues?
Aug 20: “We have updated the algorithm for the realm population tags so they more accurately reflect the expected population for that realm. The realms that are listed as “Full” are where we expect to see extended queues.”
Aug 21:
- Herod – PvP
- Faerlina – PvP
- Whitemane – PvP
If you are currently planning to play on one of these realms, you should expect extremely long queue times that take several hours to get through.
Only select servers have that kind of wait, what you’ve said is hyperbole assuming Blizzards given us semi accurate information. Eg Stalagg and Thalnos will probably be significantly more tolerable.
How about “open a new server” , move half of the accounts on Herod to that server, then open up free transfers so that people could get back together. Would this work?
Both EST PVE servers are full and there was a post about the Oceanic server fluctuating between “High” and “Full”. And they only have one server.
If it only takes a few accounts to differentiate between “High” and “Full”, the assumption that the High pop realms will have a short queue is laughable. If a Full server is “Several hours” (which is THEIR words from the AMA), then a High server is going to be at least 2-3+.
This is word for word what was put out in the Q&A:
" Can you elaborate in any way on some on the expected queue lengths (preferably in length of time) at launch?
On the most popular servers, such as Herod and Shazzrah, we are currently estimating lengthy queue times - up to several hours or more in certain instances. That is why we strongly encourage players to use the name reservation period to transfer their characters and their guilds to lower pop realms.
AFAIK at no point did they say what you just implied they said. This is specific servers that will have that issue. Queueless? No. 2-3+ hour queues for high pop? Not if what they said in the AMA is accurate.
Once Blizzard announced only 11 servers to begin with we were screwed. You’re right that it is a natural process for that small number of servers to become absolutely swamped with players. Once Blizzard set out down this path of mitigating risk above all else there was no turning back. I understand that it’s in the past and I can’t change it but at the very least I will express my dissatisfaction with how launch is shaping up. We were supposed to bite the bullet on this layering garbage to avoid this type of mess. Instead we got both.
So what to do going forward? Reorganizing my playgroup is possible but will it solve anything? Will I end up in the exact same situation in a couple days? Will I even be able to get in contact with everyone to let them know the plan has changed? Really nobody should have to answer all of this nonsense.
I’m not playing on RP-PvP lol quit quoting out the few words in a full post you want to make a point over. I clearly stated that they should open up several servers. Two or so PvE with varied times, one more PvP, and one more RP-PvP to give everyone an alternative come launch night if their server is overflowing.
Several hours= more than 2, and in most peoples’ perspective, more than 3.
The two servers mentioned were Full at the time of the AMA.
Now 4 more servers are marked as Full.
You can play the semantics game all you want. They word things very carefully because that’s their job- it’s called PR. The reality is that they have been begging people to transfer to lower pop realms for the past week because they didn’t want people to rage when they’re hit with a 3+ hr queue. But they’re not mitigating that by adding new servers when the current ones hit full. We haven’t even gotten an update about it in two days.
That’s very frustrating because they’re not being clear, and it’s on purpose. If the queues weren’t going to be that bad, they would have told us that. Instead, they urged us over and over again to re-roll, and once the servers all filled up, it’s been dead silence since.
It’s mitigating risk no matter how you do it tho, if you start with more servers its mitigating the risk of over population. If you start with less then its mitigating the risk of under population. Then it would follow which is more important?
- Mitigate underpop in the long term for a community that values having an active population?
- Mitigate overpop in the short term for launch?
You can’t do both simultaneously with servers. The only expection I could think of is if they had a master name database so they could do a merger later but that would limit the number of available names signifcantly so even that’s not a great solution. I personally dont think what they’ve done is about as good as we can expect to get it. But that’s just personal opinion, there’s always shades of grey with these issues.
Yea i dont disagree with these concerns. But at the same time I think Herods an anomoly, Stalaggs hit high pop and will probably be a safe bet but that’s just me.
Lock the existing realms, then only allow new subs to create on the new servers you need to make. Bonus for those of us that were here early (the point of early reservation right?), but if someone wants to abandon ship and go to a less pop realm, let them delete and move. But then they may not be able to come back until the population drops. Seems pretty straight forward action to me. Just dont sit back and let the situation get worse by letting the population go out of control.
I believe it is partly due to Blizz underestimating the hype but I also believe they didn’t want to put a lot of servers in Classic because they know there is going to be a drop off after a few months, and they don’t want to implement Cross-Realm zones or merge Realms because so many people hated that in Retail, Myself included.
- They’re warning players that their decision may result in a several hour queue. That’s not begging, it’s our choice.
- Adding new servers will result in lower populations faster. Idk about you but that doesn’t seem particularly great.
- We got an update Aug 21. It’s pinned on this forum, with a list of specific servers to avoid or consider transferring off from.
I’m confused as to which part of their communication hasn’t been clear?
X,Y,Z servers are gunna be packed with large queue times, consider moving if you don’t want to deal with it.
What more do we need?
As someone looking to roll on a PvE EST server, all they told me was
“All of your potential servers are going to have big queues”
No, this isnt “our” choice.
We need another EST PVE server.
That ‘update’ said to transfer to another server- where?
Many of us are older adults with families and responsibilities. It affords us a narrow window of playtime, mostly in the evenings. The other time zones will most likely not have a good amount of regular players on, that will always be on, during that time period. Example: if I get off work at 5 and start playing at 6pm est, that’s 3pm pacific time. Most PST PVE players will be at work at that time.
There are no real options when all the realms that meet your needs are full. That’s not a ‘choice’.
They aren’t opening more servers unless they see an immediate demand for them. It’s quite likely that most people who did subscribe for their name reservations have already reserved, so they aren’t seeing new PvE realms as a necessity yet. That may change, and I suspect it will at launch.
Unless they believe a new PvE realm will hit high population before launch, they’re not opening a new one. They want these servers to be reasonably packed so that they won’t need realm transfers or merges down the line, and I know for certain the forums would be chock full of whining if they did that.
They’re making these decisions so you will be happy in the long term. That may mean you’ll have to be a little uncomfortable for a hot minute, but such is life. Can’t always get what you want. You’ll survive. Don’t worry about it.
I think you are missing the point. It seems that as of right now everyone is going to be on a full server. There is no sever to which you can switch.
1 more EST PvE please so I can move off of a full server
Any servers opened post launch will be DoA
I have refused to give you my money until the release of legacy servers. when you finally release I made characters within 10 mins to secure the names. now you expect me to switch (along with my guild members) servers with the chance I won’t get the names I want that I have had planned to use for the passed decade and a half.
Fix this problem before it happens. you should have been prepared with more servers. half of my guild has yet to even subscribe to Herod. and you better bet your last dollar they will still be coming on it.
