Other than “feeling special,” why do people care if others have the same gear as them?

It’s a game, not a job, and even those that claim to have “done the work” only get gear upgrades by literally winning a lottery.

Jealously, envy… well… that’s human nature, I guess

Because you getting the same level gear as me for doing nothing undermines the work I have had to put in to get mine.

The better question to ask is “Why do you feel like you deserve better gear”

I couldn’t give the absolute smallest crap what gear you have.

What I do care about is if I end up wasting my time trying to kill Mythic bosses or clear high keys when I could just go slam my face into my key board a bit and get the same loot from WQ’s.

High level gear is a reward for completing difficult content. Everyone has access to it. Some people choose not to do it, does this mean they should receive the reward from something they never did? No.

I am sure you quite well know what they mean. By work, the effort required to reach the goal that is set, either by the game or yourself. Basically, I can sum your argument up as this. “I wanna beat Mario Bros, but don’t want to press any buttons along the way.”

This seems to be the case more often than not, it’s not the top end players, it’s the wannabe top end players. The ones that know they won’t be anywhere near would say top 20 that get all up in arms about others getting better gear over time.

If they would just be like the real top players and stop caring about what others get, this game could actually end up being fun and rewarding for almost everyone.

I’m not saying casual players should get any kind of Mythic plus or Mythic raid gear, but I do believe we should have a decent progression system for our characters as well. One that doesn’t run out of steam after a few weeks like the covenant campaign.

It’s a game. Why are you calling it work?

That’s one of the problems…nobody likes grinding out gear but some feel obligated to. Those that feel obliged demand the same from others. Some people don’t like doing particular content, M+/raid, and because of that, do not have a path to earn gear of equivalent ilvl.

This is the other problem. Mythic dungeons and raid is challenging content. Rewards should be (as they are) the best mounts in game, unique appearances, titles, achievements, and the satisfaction that “you did it”. High gear can be a reward to, but the idea is that there are other ways to earn high gear if players don’t like mythic dungeons and raid.

Gear needs to be more accessible to everyone so that the game can be more FUN and less

work work work work work… This is the main problem…work isn’t fun. So stop arguing that casuals need to put in the work and get on board with, Blizz needs to stop making the game work.

Yeah and that other option is pvp and great vault.

It is accessible to everyone, any schmuck can que for heroic, can push their own key.

People just choose not to, because they are lazy.

Did you get the cheats without putting in the work for cheato pages in banjo? No.

Did you get the Chronoscepter in turok without gathering the pieces? No.

Did you get full fatalis gear in MH without it killing Fatalis? No.

Is the game currently providing the most accessible gearing for casual players then ever before? Yes, actually.

You damn well know they don’t mean like a job and the term work has a very different meaning in this context, stop playing stupid.

No it’s not…PvP system is a total bust. You’re locked under ilvl 200 unless ranked in rated PvP which is unachievable for most classes and players with PvE ilvl 220s gear dominate low CR forcing players who want to PvP into PvE content to “put in the work” to gear up.

The other problem with rated PvP atm is those manipulating their CR to sell wins. They’re grossly outgeared and cheap classes that dominate in low CR to push others up if they pay.

Not necessarily. Most people pushing high keys and heroic/mythic raids are in guild designed for that. You don’t get that in a PUG or with guildees who rather level alts than gear.

Those games are on a totally different time scale than WoW, not even comparable. No one is asking for cheats. People want more options to gear. Personally, I wanted to gear with PvP but that has been impossible on this main and any alt. So now I’m “putting in work” so I can play PvP. Not fun.

How many hours a day/week do you spend playing video games, grinding out the same content over and over??? “Hey kettle, you black!”, says the pot.

Nor do I mean like a job. There’s a difference between enjoying a game with progression and work. Stop being in denial of the fact WoW has become a grind that is best described as “work with little reward” than fun.

Because RPGs would be weird if you get your endgame dungeon set for killing boars.

I am not saying that i dont have the time. I have the time and my mains has like 6 pieces of pvp gear, other beign a mix of pve raids and mythics.

Raid quality ilvl btw.

That’s not how matchmaking works.

If you play for like 2 hours on a day, yes, you absolutely can.

Hint hint.

So join a guild that would rather gear.

They are games from across several genres, all applying the rules of putting in effort for the reward, it is very relevant as it shows this is not a wow specific ideal.

Cheats were an in game reward from an NPC names Cheato, it’s basically a side quest in the game, and contained Easter eggs.

You can get full raid quality gear by doing basically nothing. That’s more then we’ve ever had in terms of welfare gear.

Some people just aren’t good enough.

Another obvious misunderstanding of the term “putting in work”

2 hours a day max on weekdays, and weekends as long as a feel like.

That’s casual play.

I participate in mid to high keys and raid heroic and mythic.

As a casual player, because I actually care about improving my characters.

Then what could you possibly mean, as working towards a goal is one of the most successful and positive design choices across all of gaming.

Progression is literally working towards a goal step by step.

By grind you mean an hour of torghast a week, and maybe a handful of weekly quests that take 10 minutes?

Boy what a grind.

For me, personally, gear needs to have value or it’s meaningless. If I can get the same gear doing emissaries that I could doing a heroic raid, my drive to run the heroic raid would diminish entirely.

To me it’s meant to be a value reward for the effort put in. You do X effort you get Y reward. It’s what usually draws me to continue pushing forward and devote hours a week into group content. Rewards obviously matter.

Now, I wouldn’t be opposed to a less frequent avenue to obtain the same rewards, so long as more effort is rewarded better in some way.

Let’s take the idea of a valor vendor for example. Weekly cap is 1000. If I could run a WQ and pick up like, 10, or an emissary/calling and get say, 50, but running a M+ or a heroic raid boss threw me 100 each, I’d still feel like raiding was more valuable.

If valor had a vendor that had heroic ilvl raid gear that cost like 1500-3000 valor a piece, I’d still feel like running a heroic raid would be more valuable, because I’d get gear faster and I’d still have the same direct avenue to the pieces every 2-3 weeks that everyone else had.

So I wouldn’t care if someone not playing the content had the same gear, so long as a bigger effort still had a much bigger payoff.

Hate to break it to you, but WoW has been that way since Launch. Not sure when you started, but that’s MMO’s in their entirety.

And no gear is unobtainable. All of it, is freely accessible to any who put forth a little effort. If you’re struggling to gear from PvP, then I’d look at yourself more then the content that is there. Learning your class, and other classes and their cooldowns and limits, is a good start.

I personally will do RBG when can get some more time, since thus far playing on another character, they are quite enjoyable.

Effort = Work. The whole aspect about grinding out gear is what the game revolves around. If you dont like doing certain content then dont do it, but dont expect to get a handout because you dont like doing it. Gamers now a days are just plain soft. MMO’s are not dying, the players with the mentality to play them are just getting old and dying.

The whole purpose of an rpg is to progress through achieving feats. People who manage to reach 15+ or mythic raids are doing so by progressing to that point through the effort they put into it.
Thinking you should get the same reward from doing a wq is beyond absurd.
Would you buy a game to 1 shot the last boss within the 1st 5 minutes of playing? No, because you need to progress to that point.

This thread is idiotic, I’m sorry.

It was way more of a grind during vanilla/tbc btw.
And if you truly feel this way, perhaps you just need to take a break since wow is more of a chore to you than it is fun.

Yes, and the complaint is that the effort is unrewarding unless you’re doing high M+ or mythic raid. Also, the effort is not fun, which is why:
Effort = Work
Instead of:
Effort = Playing the game

Im going to save you the heartache and just rip the bandaid off. You need to just find a new game, this isnt doing it for you. If you dont like the run M+ or raids and you complain about pvp, there is nothing else the game has to offer you. Just find something else and move on. Wow isnt for everyone.

Right, because when I say the elites need to chill and quit being so closed-minded and belittling of the casuals, I need to find a new game.
Excuse me for thinking that other players could have a good idea that could improve the game. Of course the elites are only leet when others don’t have what they do.
