Would it be possible to increase the population cap on realms without layering or is this a hardware issue? If you only need layering to alleviate server stress where players are most densely populated, could you just add layering to major cities and not the whole world and solve the same problem? If this isn’t the case then I’m not sure what layering solves in regards to server population caps.
Bring on the layers! Anyone suggesting otherwise are probably in a position in which the queues do not hurt them personally. Either they are on realms with no queues, or they are able to log in early enough that they can avoid the queue.
Open the layers, let people play the game. It’s really depressing in teh real world right now, let’s not let the cult of nochanges block people from enjoying one of the best ways to get your mind off things.
It’s kinda late for Incendius now.
I know that this doesn’t currently impact my realm, but if it did I would definitely prefer layering and some of the issues it entails to being locked out and waiting to play.
Thanks for asking.
For the love of LOVE, please implement layers!
Nope.
I’ve never complained about a single one of those things.
I’m on Whitemane. The return of layers would be a WELCOME addition here. This server is overfilled far beyond what any vanilla server was designed for and the overall gameplay quality suffers as a result - queues exceed 2, 3, 4 hours nightly even with free transfers open, resources are scarce and overfarmed. I can’t keep asking my guildmates to go to increasingly absurd lengths just to make it through the hours long queue in time for our 6 ST raids.
I have no concern for world bosses and how layers would impact them, because they are controlled by a single pserver mega guild on this server who have the timers down to a science and have characters ready to tag them the second they spawn. I’ve seen exactly 1 world boss ever on this server, so they practically dont exist for most of us.
We’ve already lost guildmates to transfers and I see guilds and communities collapsing around me. Its not sustainable and its bad for the game. In spite of all of Whitemane’s flaws, its been home since launch - I’ve made too many friends to want to leave, and the idea of asking our two raid teams to pack up and do the same just isnt realistic.
layering is good. fixes lag. fixes queu. guilds leaving for smaller servers and screwing small servers over with their economy. I want to play the game with friends and make raid times appropriately. I have been cut short on several raids due to work times for essential workers having to work.
Problems: increased Layer Hopping for nodes. If you are currently on a large server idk if this is necessarily bad. The demand is way too high for the supply and creating terrible economic inflations on things like black lotus.
You can fix layer hopping by making people stay locked into their layer. If they want to hop they will have to add each other on friends list and wait 5 mins before switching. Other than dungeon IDs having a different instance source for everyone to join in on.
Also increase node spawns for higher servers if you wish to do that. Layering - up to 3 layers, fixes a lot of issues imo.
Also destroy bots and multiboxing - that’ll fix a few hundred on larger servers.
After you dropped a NUKE on inced you want to do this? You literally are destroying servers.
Sitting in queue for 5 hours completely prevents the classic experience.
temporary layers during peak times are an accomodation for the crisis our world faces, and many of our people out there on the front lines cant really remote in or sit avoiding afk so without a real solution they are prevented from enjoying the game at all.
This is a real solution to a huge problem. So Yes please please please put in the temporary #coronalayers.
Layering was never a good idea. The solution would have been to make the proper number of servers from the start instead of trying to force millions of players to cram into 4 servers. Once free server transfers were available, people were already too invested. Nobody wants to leave their home server. Maybe you could provide free transfers to low pop servers and add an extra incentive.
We need faction specific queues to force-balance populations on heavy factioned servers. This will help in the long term as well when AQ is released.
NO.
Layering was the worst thing you did to Classic. The only reason I’m here still is because you promised to get rid of it as soon as possible and delivered on that promise.
Didn’t want it before and I sure as hell don’t want them re-added. Layering brings so many negatives with it. No thanks, I’d much rather have the hour long queue.
You say that but you’re obviously ignoring the lotus issues we have now. Never was a flask 200+ gold on vanilla because the servers were capped at around 3k. We now have several “mega” servers that hold 10k+. Using the same spawn rate for lotus as they did for 3k players is a really bad thing and caused the flask market to explode. Try hard guilds tend to require flasks (40 flasks a week per guild x 200g per flask = 8000g a week from ONE GUILD) and the over inflated prices have caused people to spend nearly every waking hour to stay stocked for raids.
I hated layering when the game launched. . . but now im singing a quite different toon. This is outta control.
Do you have queues on Kirtonos?
Yes, please turn back on layering. A system where layers scale to prevent queue times would be great. It’s a nightmare trying to get on some realms right now.
And for everyone saying that layering will somehow “destroy the game” or “ruin the economy” I’d like to remind the thread that these servers house 3x-4x the amount of players that realms did back in vanilla. The economy has already been destroyed by the massive increase in population for these large servers, and when comparing to the server population of old days, layers could actually bring the economy closer to what it was back then. See Black Lotus 250g+ for an example.
By the way, why are you asking randos for their opinion about the game? Most of these people don’t understand what’s good game design and because of topics like this is how we got the dumpster fire known as retail…
Do NOT bring back layers ever again! There are other solutions that can help deal with these problems you created. What comes to mind now is: faction specific queues and restricting server transfers to Full realms.
Yes, please bring back layering for the time being.
Please for the love of god yes put layers back, the queue sucks and cramming 10,000 people onto a server isn’t remotely authentic.
