Open Question: An Alternative to Queues?

Seems pretty obvious to me, disable transfers to high population servers permanently and introduce layering whilst there is the spike of demand.

It’s unplayable at the moment with a 5 hour queue at 4pm on Arugal.

Its going to be worse tomorrw, if you dont log in at 10am i dont think you will get on for raids.
what with zg comming tomorrow and all its going to be completly spastic.

Thank you for deciding not to implement layering, but instead offer people a free character transfer to less populated realms.

I specifically chose a high population realm.
I do not want to see layering.

Layering would lead to people attempting to find new/old exploits, further damaging the server economy and general play style by making certain limited resources more common than they should be.
People that choose to be on a high pop realm should understand what they’re getting into. If they don’t like the prospect of not being able to play the moment they want to play, then they should either think ahead, live with it, or play on a different server.

There’s more than one solution. Layering, in my opinion, is not it.

Open faction specific queues, then offer faction specific transfers. These problems are created by letting a specific faction join a unbalanced server. More and more people will transfer into one of two servers because of being on the under populated side. As incedious has horde xfer off they are coming to horde dominated servers like herod, making it worse for everyone. Now we have 3 hour queues starting at 6pm server

NO!!! Layers had an extreme impact on economy and community. There were arguably a necessary evil at the time but have no justification now.

I think that Layering is a poor fix for what the issues are here.

1. Too many people on these servers. Classic servers should never have been able to have this amount of people playing, and the fact is, layering causes these servers to not have an issue at the start. Really layering should never have been in the game in the first place, to have people believe that they could co-exist on this mega populated servers. So full servers need to have locked character creation and transfers to them.

2. Really need do something about the faction imbalance. Part of the reason why people are being driven away from servers is because the factions are so imbalanced. Whether you can create faction specific queues, or modify transfers so that when you do free ones, it doesn’t automatically destroy a server’s faction, see what just happened to Incendius.

3. There is a huge problem with buffs, resources, and the overall economy that will be messed up. I remember when there were those exploits inside MC with layering. I remember people jumping inbetween layers to level. Now Magnify that but on the scale for resources like RTVs, Devilsaurs, Black Lotus, etc… If buffs are going to go out in Org, what happens when your raid misses out on the buff going out because you’re in a different layer, or you can’t reset it because the other priest is in a different layer.

4. At the end of the day, so many of these people cry about queues because they all want to play on the super populated servers. Well, queues are a life on these servers. If they actually cared about it, they should have went to the servers that they call “dead” servers.

Yes that’s how layers work… if your realm doesn’t have a queue now it wouldn’t have layers.

That’s, uh, exactly what’s happening. Servers with 6 hour queues will get them and servers without queues or really low ones will not.
