Okay So What Do I Do Now?

Alright, so I’m pretty close to my wits end with this game right now. On Tuesday I switched back from Necrolord to Night Fae and yet again had my campaign bug out so I was only 8/9 completed. I had this happen before when I went Necrolord and the GM fixed it no problem so I figured I’d just open a ticket and everything would be fine. I open the ticket, some time later the GM tells me I just need to do a quest for the campaign to be done and sends me a link to WoWHead with absolutely no help at all.

So I open another ticket specifically outlining that I’ve already completed the Night Fae campaign and I’m 40 renown with them so I cannot indeed do the quest. This GM tells me they’ve fixed the problem so I do the survey and try to move on, but then I login to my Druid and absolutely nothing has changed. So I open yet a third ticket, tell the GM whats happening, they tell me again it’s been fixed, I check again before I say the ticket is done and again it hasn’t been fixed, so I reply to that ticket saying it hasn’t been fixed and finally today a GM whispers me.

After a pretty lengthy diagnostic process the GM tells me he can’t fix the problem and so I get ready to just move on, but then when I try to login to my main the game tells me the character is “Temporarily Unavailable”. I tell the GM this, he gets in contact with a “specialist GM” and they tell me it may take up to 72 hours before I can log on to my main again.

So at this point, they did absolutely nothing to fix my problem after FOUR times contacting them, and now they’ve actually created a new problem where I can’t even login to my main to do my maw dailies, so now I’ll be behind, AND can’t play my MAIN character that I want to play. To be honest I’ve only got two months left on my game time and at this point I’ve gotten so disheartened by this whole thing I think I might just quit for good. I can’t even fully explain to you how much it sucks to try and get a problem fixed just for Blizzard to arrest my character for absolutely no reason other than trying to get a problem fixed.

I don’t even know if this is the appropriate place to be posting this, but I don’t know what else to do since the GMs have not only been no help but now have actually CAUSED a different issue.

If you’ve already been told by a specialist GM that it can take up to 72 hours before you’ll be able to log into your main, then that’s the only real info I think anyone here is going to be able to reiterate unfortunately.

It sounds like a really rare sort of bug or issue and these sorts of things can happen. It’s just not a common thing.

That’s fine if it’s some rare bug, but the fact that they didn’t even attempt to rectify the situation any way is what’s so highly upsetting to me. The GM didn’t offer to fix my problem in a different way, they didn’t offer me 72 hours of game time for the fact that I’ll be out that time for something THEY CAUSED, they didn’t even say you know what, we messed up our bad, you can’t play now so here’s a beta invite to BC so you have something to do while you can’t play. Nothing.

At this point all I’ve learned is that when I do have a problem I shouldn’t try to get it fixed, because when I do it’ll just create an even bigger problem. You’re basically telling me that when I take my car in to get repaired, if the mechanic messes up I shouldn’t bother to take the car back in and demand they fix the problem and give me something for my trouble just because it was a “rare problem”.

Ultimately they took what was a minor problem and exploded it into a game-breaking problem as now I can’t even play the game anymore. If a car mechanic broke my car after a repair I would 100% expect them to offer me a rental while they fixed the issue.

Not to be mean or anything, but that comparison makes no sense as a toon is being affected, not your whole account. They wouldn’t give you free time when you can play other toons in the meantime.

I don’t want to play other toons. I don’t want to get THREE DAYS BEHIND on my main character I play 70% of the time. Yes I can play other characters but I can also play other games so why am I paying a subscription at all?

I’m sorry, Empowerments, but I can assure you that they absolutely did attempt to rectify the situation in every way possible. Both for the campaign issue you were experiencing as well as the inability to access the character.

That they did not go over everything that they did attempt is in no way an indication that they didn’t do what they could.

First, Customer Support is not able to provide beta access, which simply isn’t within their power. Second, we do not tend to provide compensation until the issue has been resolved. We wouldn’t grant a day or two of game time, or whatever the option may be, to then have to do something else if the issue persists. Once the issue has been resolved, then the full issue can be reviewed for anything like that.

That really isn’t the same thing, Empowerments. We can’t give you a temporary character. I mean, I suppose that is possible. Would you be interested in playing a copy of a character for a few days for it to be deleted as soon as the issue is resolved?

It is an unfortunate situation, and I am sorry that you are experiencing it. I’ve never actually seen something like this happen before, which goes to show how rare it is. Hopefully, the issue with the character will clear up soon, then we can see if the attempts to resolve the issue were successful, but right now it seems there isn’t anything that can be done other than wait.

To be blunt, you pay to access the servers and not one single character. Yes, it totally sucks that your character is having difficulty now, but bugs are part of what we agree to when we sign up to play.

What I don’t understand is, I even gave them the option for a different fix if it would alleviate the problem; I said switch me back to Necrolord if it’ll clear this Night Fae bug since I’d prefer to be Necrolord anyway. I understand it would be bypassing this covenant swapping weekly but if it cleared the problem then it seems like something that might be worth it rather than just having my character disabled for days. Maybe that wouldn’t fix the problem, I don’t really understand what the problem is exactly but I did give it as an option.

Actually having a character to play for a few days would be fine with me as long as I could keep what I grinded for. I primarily play my main and the only reason I login every day is to do my daily BGs, maw, and anima dailies. My alts aren’t played a ton, especially now that most of my friends have quit the game and I don’t need them anymore. Heck, at this point I’d probably even take freezing my account for three days since there’s barely a reason for me to even login now.

Ultimately I’ve already been on the verge of quitting the game for some time now since nearly all my friends have quit and there aren’t many guilds recruiting on my server. This whole experience has made it so the only reason I was still subscribed was now removed because of something I didn’t even do. Frankly knowing that when I asked Blizzard for help they not only didn’t help the issue at all, but now have locked me out of my character is beyond disheartening and really makes me question if I enjoy the game after this.

That isn’t something that they can do. We don’t have a series of switches that we can just flick to swap between things. The mechanics to allow you to swap covenants is part of the character and quest system. We can’t circumvent that.

It feels like your applying an intent that just isn’t there, Empowerments. Each Game Master attempted the troubleshooting steps they had, which should have resolved your issue. It did not, so the next GM attempted to try something else.

Keep in mind, Game Masters are not able to fix game bugs. In most situations, they cannot help at all and need to wait for the QA and Development team to investigate, develop, test, and implement a resolution, but in some situations, they can deal with the symptoms of the bug.

This was one of those cases, they tried to address the symptoms with the tools and the instructions that they had. In the process of doing so, your character experienced an extremely rare bug that prevented access to the character. I get that it’s frustrating, and at every level, we would like nothing more than to say “Voilà! It’s all fixed!”. It’s a good deal easier than the alternative, believe me.

So I guess I’m just trying to understand, what do I do now? I don’t want to play my alts for the next three days, I don’t want to get three days behind on the maw, or my anima, or my conquest and honor. It sounds to be like basically the next three days of gametime just got eaten up and I’m just out of luck about it. The only option I have now is to just go play another game so that’s why I’m asking myself why do I even pay for a subscription.

It sounds to me like Blizzard doesn’t offer any kind of compensation for problems like these so the fact that I’m just out of luck, I dunno, I guess it makes me feel like Blizzard doesn’t care. I get that the problem is rare, but shouldn’t a rare problem be met with a rare solution? I don’t feel like I’m asking for a lot, just to be treated like Blizzard actually cares that they’ve basically disabled my game for three days. Plus the fact that it sounds like to me like the problem might not even be solved in three days so there’s no guarantee that I’ll EVER be able to play my Druid again.

Yes, you’ve mentioned that several times now. The answer is, I can’t tell you what you should do, Empowerments. Right now, the only thing we can do is wait until the character becomes available to acces.

If that is what it sounds like, Empowerment, I’d ask you to reread what I wrote earlier. I said we do not provide compensation while the issue is still ongoing. Once the issue has been resolved, then it can be reviewed to see what can be provided. Not offering compensation until we have a full picture of the extent of the issue isn’t the same thing as not caring.

That isn’t how that works. Encountering a rare bug doesn’t mean that an even rarer solution is magically available but we’re just not doing it. The solution, right now, is to wait.

Just to point it out, because it haven’t really been addressed: Even if they gave the OP three days in game time, they’d still be three days behind, would still have to wait and would need to see what the folks looking into this find/fix it.

The time isn’t going to magically catch them up where they was before, let alone do things they wanted.

So what happens when my character still isn’t playable in 3 days? When happens when I log on and everything is messed up and my gold is missing? I guess I just don’t understand why the character can’t just be rolled back to this morning before I contacted the GM. If I wait 3 days for the character to work it feels like a rollback will no longer be possible and if there’s any more problems I’ll be completely out of luck.

And I’m not gonna lie, if suddenly that character is gone I will 100% quit this game and never play again. I’ve worked too hard on that character for it to just be gone.

I mean this is kind of my point, 3 days of game time should be the absolute minimum offered and it wasn’t. I’ll still be 3 days behind no matter what I do but at least one way they’ll have tried to make it right while the other they didn’t. I don’t want some special access to beta for compensation, I was just saying it as an example of what could be possible.

Were you under the impression this was some kind of negotiation?

The GMs will fix it the best they can. You’ll have to decide if that was good enough after then.

Anything else is premature.

I couldn’t tell you, Empowerments. If that is the case then we’ll see what else can be done.

That seems unlikely, Empowerments. The character is simply not accessible. There is no reason to assume that gold or any other items on the character would be impacted.

Again, that isn’t how characters work. This isn’t a console game where you can select a previous save to return to.

A rollback would never have been possible because it doesn’t work like that.

I understand that, Empowerments, but that won’t change what can be done. The goal is to allow you to access your character, and any issues associated with it resolved.

Again, any compensation that might be possible wouldn’t be offered while the issue is still ongoing.

Not at all, however, I do expect that I be treated somewhat fairly when problems like this arise, otherwise I will certainly take my money elsewhere. As I said, the fortunate news for me is that I have less than 60 days left on my subscription so if I feel like I’m being mistreated I don’t plan on sticking around.

Of course, you shouldn’t keep paying for a product that is not satisfactory to you.

But none of that changes what’s possible and what’s not.

Really though on the rollback? Cause we have had many rollbacks over the 16 years of wow some ranging from 2 hours others even longer. Last one I can recall was in legion that had a rollback of a few hours
