This is all great, but really the bare minimum:
- Make soar = dragonriding
- Make dragonriding world wide.
Today.

agreed. Dragonriding is a new type of mount/travel system, and there are examples of other mounts/travel systems that other races/classes get that are functionally identical (or better) than what they are mimicing.
Worgen get Running Wild, which functions the same as a ground mount.
Druids get flight form that functions the same as flying mounts (plus itās instant cast and can interact with certain doodads without being pulled out of the shapeshift).
Make Soar functionally identical to Dragonriding. Iād even be okay if itās not usable in old world content until that is made Dragonride-able for all players (which you know will come eventually, since soar proves it already works in those areas, and just needs to be toggled on for all players).
Also, just make Dragonriding the next āupgradeā in travel.
Normal Ground(60%) ā Epic Ground(100%) ā Normal Flight(150%) ā Improved Flight(280%) ā Epic Flight(310%) ā Dragonriding(~500 - 900%).
At this point, I also expect the sonic boom (on top of everything else).
That would be a way for Blizzard to apologize for the whole debacle without having to technically apologize.
Like, a little wink from the Dev team that says, āSorry about that guys, Jimmy will no longer be making balancing decisions here at Blizzard. We all love Jimmy, but we hear you that balancing racial abilities was just not a good fit for him. It wonāt happen again. Please enjoy this absolutely rad sonic boom and superhero landing effect for your new Dracthyr. We hope this makes up for any inconvenience Jimmy may have caused. He really does mean well.ā
Still faster than normal flight, so itās totally ok for me.
Not all people itās like some like people try to get the max spec , armor , play style.
baby dont hurt me
Iām fine with the mechanics of the nerf. Hell, they could make it slower than normal flying and I wouldnāt mind. From a purely mechanical point of view.
The irritating - and frankly, worrying - part is their reasoning. Which is continues to be on brand, even as the other side of their mouth is saying theyāve learned their lesson.
I 100% agree with you on their reasoning being worrying.
Rogues/Druids/Mages can stealth past trash (and sometimes even bosses) to get to mog/pet drop bosses faster. Druids and shaman can cat/ghostwolf around indoor instances much faster than every other class too, offering them a permanent speed advantage, which over the course of the whole instance offers a much more significant speed increase than Soaring to the instance would. (Thereās probably numerous other examples that people can think of as well, but Iām not going to bother at the moment.)
Yep. Classes and races have specific perks. If they believe that the Dracthyr perks are outsized, they should consider looking at non-combat abilities of the existing races and classes and making them more flavourful and fun. Not removing fun from something they actually got right.
Looks at Zen Flight Donāt give me hope
i mained a monk in MoP, i feel your pain. Zen flight could have been amazing. At least you can still flight-form cheese interactable quest stuff with it (unless they nerfed that tooā¦ been a while since Iāve taken my monk out for a spin).
In current content not so much seems like just getting a combat flag drops you and with the dang ZM birds that makes it a no go.
ah, unfortunate
Daily reminder that itās absolutely idiotic to the highest degree that the race whoās entire racial is to fly as the character itself will now be forced to fly ontop of another dragon because of how massive the difference in speed is, Blizzard stop failing the playerbase and just take the L and put soar back to max speed, it was a terrible idea and the person who got paid to think of it should accept they were wrong.
Well the nerf didnāt cause that the cooldown has been the barrier on not needing a mount, which they said they didnāt want them to have originally, so yeah out in DF it really should be no cooldown full speed.
That is all I ever have wanted, to use my flying mount when I hit max level and to then do the content the way I wanted to do it. With flying not dragon riding just flying.
It doesnāt ācontinue to be on brand;ā it is the brand distilling itself to the purest form of self-parody imaginable, and then putting that distilled self-parody forward for public consumption with an absolutely straight face and no indication whatsoever that they are in on the joke or even realize it is a joke.
Blizzard responding to community discussion about a rumored/speculated launch date and raid schedule within 24 hoursā¦
meanwhile, in the Soar megathread, we have yet to get any response at all. At this point, if they are going to keep Soar at this slower speed, they could at least acknowledge the feedback and defend their stance with better points other than ābUt ThEy ChRoMiE tImE tOo FaStā.
They made the post on a Friday. Which is what they always do when they know theyāre going to ruffle feathers. Then, instead of engaging with the community to better understand the necessity of the change, I can only assume they spend their weekend like this:
I mean, do they have no one there who does a cost-benefit analysis on stuff like this? Like, we know this going to upset people, and we really canāt afford to upset people right now if we donāt have to, so what is our projected gain from this decision, and does it actually offset the backlash we know is coming?
Because I really think no one at Blizzard has this job and someone probably should.
