No Unarmored Mounts in Classic?

The original mounts are such an important part of the classic experience for me. The unarmored white epic tiger is still the only mount I ever use!

I have posted a thread for all of us to come together, please I urge you to post your plea for the mounts so we can organize ourselves in one place so our voices may be heard.

Now that’s the way to do it.

Just something that came to mind. I think they mentioned they didn’t want to add unarmored mounts to classic was because it wouldn’t be fair to people and they would feel rushed to level, which means that they didn’t want to add something time limited to the game, that would cause some people not being able to obtain it. But if that is the case, then why add in the pets for people that bought the collectors addition way back. We can no longer get those pets, so it kind of feels contradicting.

Well, there’s a difference between a limited time in game (original epic mounts), vs. a long-gone and now-closed window (Collector’s Edition). And then there’s the Qiraji mount!

I think people have a good argument that they shouldn’t be told how to play the game. If they want to speed-level to get a particular item in a time window, they should be able to. I agree with them. I also agree with the people who say the mounts should just not be removed, and if prestige is really important, make them cost more. Easy to do, but no matter what, somebody is going to be ticked off.

Same for the CE pets. We were promised when we bought the CE that every future WoW toon we created would get one of them. Classic is definitely a future version of WoW in my book, but to others, it’s a whole new game. And yet, if there is not going to be a Classic CE, nobody will have or see any CE pets, which isn’t vanilla. So again, no matter what, somebody is going to be ticked off. I still think Blizzard should put out a Classic CE and give anybody who bought the original CE their pets, that way the OG players are recognized but new folks can join in on that kind of experience.

We need this mounts… we deserve these mounts. Crucial part of the vanilla experience

This.

Blizzard could have very easily left in the unarmored epic mounts and just added the new armored ones back in Vanilla. Many of us thought this is what they were going to do at the time actually.

It was only after the deed was done and the unarmored mounts were gone did we realize that Blizzard meant the armored mounts to completely replace the earlier version.

In that respect, the unarmored versions aren’t really considered old content. They’re actually just the standard epic mounts pre-graphics update.

We’re getting 1.12 with all the 1.12 graphics updates. That means armored mounts only.

Also, allowing in the unarmored version for 4 months would promote rushing to 60 get them.

  • A big part of Classic is about the leveling experience. Promoting rushing to 60 is not good for the game.
  • Also, it would be artificial, since there was no such motivation back in Vanilla. Vanilla players had no advance notice the armored ones were replacing the unarmored ones so did not know to rush to 60 and farm gold for them during the first 4 months.

I’m an adventurer, not a hero. I scrape together the armor I’m wearing to survive my journeys. I’m not going into a battle to save the world, I’m not waging war on the greatest threat known to ever exist, and I’m not the savior of my race/class… I’m an adventurer trying to make ends meet… it took me quite some time, over half my levels life, to just afford a mount.

My mount having better armor than I do kills my immersion.

They’re not really replacements though since both mounts are still in the game to this day. It’s not just a matter of cosmetic change the way they did with some gear, they just removed the ability to buy them.

Since we have phased content I think it makes much more sense to leave the old mounts in for patch 1 or even 2. It’s endgame content and a long-term goal for players who aren’t as focused on raiding or pvp.

Pretty sure hes a damage control paid poster.

people are so distracted by pokimane getting beta access they would rather cry about that then care about blizzard failing at creating the original vanilla experience.

This is so much more important than the why am i not invited to the beta threads

I’m a little confused, would it really be so bad or so hard to just have the option either way?

I mean, you get to 60, and you have the choice; buy the armored, or the unarmored mount.

What’s all this nonsense about limited time and not wanting people to rush? Just make them always available, I’m not seeing how that would be an issue?

that would be the logical thing to do… instead they don’t want anyone being able to obtain them…

There’s two things I don’t like about this: Blizzard trying to police the ways we play the game and that people would rush to obtain something that they know would distinguish them from everyone else who didn’t get it. The devs are wrong to limit options on things to do, but at the same time I don’t think the community knows what’s right either. Did people think it was right when you couldn’t get unarmored mounts after 5 months in at the time, that it was “fair” to those who weren’t lucky to start Vanilla at launch(raises hand)? Did they complain about Blizzard removing them in the forums at the time? And we want to repeat that mistake?

I would agree to the unarmored epic mounts having achievable permanence. I think that would be the best compromise. This is really supposed to be going back in time IN THE GAME, as opposed to going back in time IN REAL LIFE. In other words, I would want to play WoW “those 10 years after the defeat of the Burning Legion” instead of playing WoW’s “current version in 2005-2006”. And I certainly don’t want this to be broken by elitist types who want to lord social power over others, because I’m a gamer and not a politician.

just add the mounts to the vendor and leave them there. and everyone is happy… getting rid of them entirely is unauthentic and illogical.

“Well, that’s not how vanilla exactly was according to the patch history.”

I don’t care. Classic should have been a chance for the OWNERS of the intellectual property to actually IMPROVE some things they couldn’t have done before at the time. I don’t know why anyone would ask for a perfect clone of vanilla patch history. Now granted, you had to settle for that if you wanted to keep playing vanilla after retail had expanded and the latest version was discontinued, and that’s what people did. You could choose between Blizz-like or modified ones. But Blizzard has the chance to REDO Vanilla and actually making it better(optimizations).

Tangentially, I play AoE Online on a certain private server(Project Celeste) and they’re working on adding the ROMANS this year and even more in the future. Not one client holder is complaining that wasn’t part of the “original” AoEO experience that only had six playable civs before it was officially shut down. Celeste’s AoEO, with some PvP balance tweaking and additional endgame content, is not exactly the same version AoEO was under Robot Entertainment and Gas Powered Games.
