No, seriously, we REALLY don't all want Dual Spec in TBC

That’s not necessarily relevant given there’s numerous changes that were never present in TBC.

You don’t have a quote from them saying that.

So you’re justifying changes because of changes?

The question is, were the changes made so far in the design of origional tbc?

Boost? Store mount?

Recruit a friend was FAR more effective for maxing out multiple characters and it gave a mount.

On top of that blizzard already had a mount store in tbc through the cards they sold.

So these things were in tbc, just in a less profitable form for blizzard.

The FvF change was a change done purely because of the faction imbalance in pvp and is still being considered for a full implementation. It’s a double edged sword that will help people play BGs (which isn’t top end pvp) but it will give the horde the same issue alliance had with instant queues. Lose fast to min max. I understand why the change is being considered. I’m not 100% for it though as there will be downsides without even considering the faction imbalance.

The paladin seal change was an attempt to help prevent fa tion imbalance to not have to do a more drastic change, it clearly didn’t work to the degree they hoped for because they are considering FvF being a permanent part of the game. This change is also very minimal in impact on class design because it was not a huge difference in capability for the paladins. Again I understand why they made the change, doesn’t make me 100% happy with it though.

None of the changes made so far were directly told to us by the origional game designers as a “no”. Dual spec was told to us as a “no” however so that’s a big stretch from the changes we already have justifying dual spec…

Go look there.

I’m justifying changes for the overall health of the game, just as Blizzard has justified other changes.

I’ve listed these two as negative changes.

Sure, but that wasn’t the intention behind RAF - nor is it the intention of boost.

Entirely different.

Correct, that’s the intention behind it. Just as the intention behind dual spec could easily be spun as an attempt to bring healers and tanks and those who do multiple different roles/PvE and PvP in line with one another. To, “retain” choice but give more flexibility.

The seal change was a minor, but favourable one for Retadins.

Again, the cat is far out of the bag already in terms of original design.

Except there is already an in game system for this.

There was already an in game system for leveling an alt and getting mounts, and there was an existing system in game for queuing into BGs.

I disagree with this. They are still trying to respect the origional design. And RaF was designed to bring people in and provide more income for blizzard, just as the cards were an income source and could provide mounts/pets.

RaF didn’t exist in retails client which is what classic used as it’s backbone. And the cards stopped being sold a while ago so that system was no longer usable.

And the BG had a system that was not working as intended in classic due to population differences from origional tbc.

That post doesn’t say anything about Dual Spec. It’s talking about respec costs, which remained a maximum of 50g even after Dual Spec was implemented.

An auto boost to 58 and a store mount you can buy directly does not respect the original design intent of the game. Even with the spectral tiger, which was all about luck and trying to get it (and absurdly expensive), and the RAF which was designed to have players still level to a higher level, they still intended players to start from level 1 and to work for things.

Arguing that the boost and the store mount follow original TBC design is just folly.

It doesn’t matter if it was working as intended or not - do you have a post saying they intended the queue times to be short regardless of faction?

This is something completely different than the game has ever seen. Acting like this is completely fine and is necessary by putting a spin on it, and then refusing to accept the same for dual spec, is just dumb. You can spin dual spec to be just as fine and necessary.

uh yes it does…

I literally quoted it from the link I posted it from Delim…

This has been addressed many times before and I have to tell you, the answer is still “no” to both for the same reasons we’ve always given. There should be real investment into choosing a spec and reducing the cost or making it easy to do simple swaps would make the whole purpose moot.

it’s literally a “no” from them dawg

Here, I’ll do you one better:

You’re assuming a bit much here. Your assumption is that we haven’t asked this question many times before or even more recently. I’m not mouthing off or giving cliche’d responses. I’m giving you the straight answer that the answer is still, “no”. I’m not going to say it’s under consideration or that I’m going to ask them again about it when we have asked, it’s not under consideration right now and it’s not changing from the way it is currently. The costs are deemed reasonable.

Also, I wanted to point out that the argument about people respeccing for Arena teams makes the assumption that everyone is somehow running in one and thus needs multiple respecs. This is not true. Not everyone is respeccing between PvE and PvP and it’s not a majority of players that need to.

Times change. They even changed back in TBC, when they started to develop Dual Spec to address these issues well before WoTLK released.

This is a modern community, very different from the community that played the game back in 2007, and making sure that we’re servicing their needs. So it’s a little different than our mantra of Classic of just #NoChanges. Like, it was very much just pure authenticity, warts and all, we’re gonna do it the way it was. This one’s gonna be more like, well what do people want from this game.

– Patrick Dawson, Production Director.

Not one person from either side of the argument has had their opinion changed by anything anyone has said in the months this debate has been ongoing. I’m not going to stop asking for Dual Spec until Blizzard says it isn’t happening. I don’t care what all the retail players and low levels, as well as people who don’t even play the game think about it.

Dual spec wasn’t introduced into the game until patch 3.1, months after wotlk launched. You act like it was a focal point of the entire expansion to launch dual spec.

Even in the original 3.1 post, people were hoping that dual spec would be announced, which means that it wasn’t even confirmed to actually be in the game until 3.1 released with full patch notes.

We are going to be announcing some of our plans for classes in 3.1 fairly soon. The announcements will be prominent. They will not be comprehensive. We are not going to announce every change we are going to make. We are going to risk giving you some insight into a work in progress, even though we may ultimately decide not to make some of the changes. You guys can help me remind other players of that when they get angry because we didn’t deliver a change that they were “promised.”

Hopefully the Dual spec feature will make it.

Here comes the guy who has admitted he doesn’t even play TBC Classic to make a comment about a game he has no intention of ever playing.

“There should be real investment into choosing a spec and reducing the cost or making it easy to do simple swaps would make the whole purpose moot.”

“Or making it easy to do simple swaps”

You sure you read the entire thing?

That quote you linked was from wotlk.

Is tbc wotlk?

Dual Spec is investing into two specs, instead of one. It’s not making it easy to swap around talents. They never reduced the respec cost, even after Dual Spec was released.

You’re still invested into specs. You still have to pay to respec either one of those specs.

NEEDS.

Not wanting to pay respecs isn’t a need to be able to play the game.

Not having an hour+ to wait in queue for a BG could be argued as a needed change. But gold falls out of everyone’s ears in tbc, so 50g to respec doesn’t need to be changed.

I agree.

Has nothing to do with Dual Spec.
