My main hunter this expac is in Dark Ranger spec, and looks like a Dark Ranger. I enjoyed having cool spiders and other thematic pets for her in PvP.
This eagle doesn’t fit with every ‘class fantasy’ tied to MM, they need to have a bunch of glyphs so it can be other animals. A crow, a bat, something mechanical, an owl, etc.
Or just let it be whatever pet we set into the first slot in our stable or something… Cause they spent all that time updating the UI for stables and expanding our pet room… Seems really dumb to just drop that all on a third of hunter specs for literally no real reason.
That’s where it all really started, and we didn’t have all night going through all the untold thousands of posts discussing why melee SV was always bad. That pigeonholed a lot of SV mains to go BM, but everybody wrote MM off as a joke/meme spec and such was the status quo for years, which is why it cannot get more pointless to have a discussion about the 11.1 rework.
Chances are, Blizzard would be doing this for new blood, not the ones who had already given up on MM years ago or the select handful that had already been there, done that, actually dominated, and made world-first records. Cashmeowside didn’t need this rework; the Jackal of Stormwind didn’t need this rework, so I won’t pretend Blizz was doing this as a personal favor to them because they needed it. These two had crushed the PvP competition as MM LONG BEFORE this was even drafted.
Sorry, I should have explained that better. I imagine a marksman hunter as possessing an extended range, beyond that of the normal hunter. Instead of engaging in any close combat, they drop damage from farther away. Other hunters would rely on pets due to the close proximity to their prey. Does that make my idea a little clearer?
Due to how this game works, that isn’t really viable.
All mobs move into range when aggro’d, be it melee or ranged casters or what have you. So the MM hunter will be in melee, more often than not, while solo. For normal mobs, you might be able to burst down 1 before it’s in melee, but good luck being able to hit multiple before they’re in your face.
MM hunter lacks the survivability to endure those hits for long when they come from challenge appropriate mobs, that’s what the pet is for. None of the PTR changes address this in any substantial way.
Right, but how you are going to keep your distance - from farther away - if you do not have an companion/pet to keep the target pinned, slowing or fully stopping their advance?
right now you will be engaging in close combat hitting enemies at point blank
So the damage reduction and added stamina or the choice to be faster and have an additional root break aren’t addressing this? Time to learn to kite, like every other ranged, non pet class in the game. You’ll be fine.
This is a very positive change for the vast majority of mm hunters. The pet has been a shackle for years and years now.
I do get the uproar for the RP, casual crowd though. Problem for you guys is the game isn’t designed around you. Never has been. Never will be. Thankfully.
Not really no. Thats never going to be akin to the Pet being able to hold something in place and be healed in the process.
Nor will it ever address the benefits of having a choice in no pet vs pet.
Also why the hell is it a random eagle and not just our pet being pulled out of the stable in the first place? Hunters are hunters. We have pets. Thats a facet of the class you choose.
Gosh if only there was a way to give a choice in the matter like say having a talent or something that gives you the option to use a pet or get benefits from not using one.
Thats so backwards. Blizzard could have done all of this and still left a choice there for people to have their pets or not or at the very least let people use their pets as the damned eagle.
The dead zone sucks though. If it comes down to dead zone or being able to melee then I guess I’d rather look stupid shooting something that is beating the snot out of me.
And no clue on dual wield. Funnily enough (considering what I just said) I don’t play melee classes. However, dual wield is part of hunter of old, so yeah I think they should have that option.
They don’t give back the effective health of a pet. My bear has around 4-5 million HP. My point stands as the changes are not substantive enough.
Good luck kiting in a hallway, or atop a platform full of hazards. Or not walking into another group of more enemies. Their encounter design for solo content is actively hostile to kiting.
So if the pet is a shackle, why are you happy that MM is keeping theirs?
Here’s me killing an 11 million HP elite. On top of a ledge. With lots of patrols. Without a pet. At ilvl 77.

Before you say I’m some elite player, I’m not. I’m a 46 year old grampa who likes to pretend he’s Legolas in a video game. I sometimes do dungeons, I sometimes try to pug m+, I sometimes do pvp, but I mainly collect transmog.
Lmao, you took the right spot, who barely had any, and you only agro one, and it took 2 whole minutes to take down one elite, when it could have being far easier and faster to do with a pet.
Try do the Bee quest next time, im sure you will have a blast.
