But nothing like our current pet. Not to mention most hunters using pets selected theirs for a reason. I selected mine 20 years ago and dont want to give it up. And I hate BM/SV, so please dont parrot the ones saying to play those specs. My pet is as much a part of me and my character as my character’s race and class.
And yet somehow, you can still play beastmaster and have two pets at the same time. i’m looking forward to the new change and seeing if the new lone wolf really makes a difference. I mean, they already took away my combat rogue they might as well take away my marksman Hunter.
5% is such a huge difference (It’s not even that much - because the pet DOES do some dmg.) Wild the difference between specs/classes is more than that alone! Wonder how people like you argue you don’t ‘need to play meta specs/classes’ for content but then argue so hard on something like this. We can call it Schrödinger’s Elitism.
This is a valid reason, Snoz.
Wowhead still suggests running one in solo content for a reason.
It is pure garbage and screws MM, yes i know we should use lone wolf or you lose a whole 1% damage, i barely raid, i do some pvp and do delves and solo content.
Let me have the damn pet to hold aggro, i dont need to play ever mob loke pvp dropping traps and running away
Make Survival like WotLK again. BM pet damage, MM heavy physical damage, survival dot magic damage. There are already to many melee specs in game. If anything BM should have been the melee spec fighting along side pets while survival is max range live lord. No pets for MM, support for survival, main identity for BM.
In ST.
In aoe it’s a massive dps loss.
And some can even make the argument that 5% is a prettt significant loss as well.
Lucky for me anyone with common sense knows that you can play whatever spec for most content. However it doesn’t magically make pet spec not gapped in aoe by lone wolf. Just most people don’t play at a level it matters.
I’ve been wanting this change for ages. Finally I can go petless without losing a lot of utility.
Sure an eagle shows up every now and then. My only wish is if it does show up I hope it’s customizable in some regard (I’d like to make it mechanical or a drone, something that would make more sense for my character) but outside of that? It seems like entirely positive changes for the spec.
I feel for those who like going around with a pet, but there are options for that and if you don’t like those options…Really aren’t sure what else to tell you.
Wowhead isn’t exactly the most credible site when it comes to guides.
Even then group content has always taken the priority over solo content when it comes to class design and changes.
MM has massive issues that needs addressed and the devs have decided this is the route they are going to take.
The pet has zero interaction with the spec outside of tanking or being used for utility.
It’s entirely down to guide writer.
The point isn’t “this is good” no one is saying using a pet is optimal on MM. We don’t want a game that caters exclusively to optimization and the top end.
This game has always prioritized balancing around the high end though.
To a degree. It shouldn’t (and typically does not) encroach on the casual space. Fixing the issues with Arcane did not impact the majority of players.
Neither did fixing frost mage either.
To be fair there, the biggest reason for MM using pets in instances was to use Primal Rage or Intimidate if the group didn’t have anyone else for the former or in an emergency for the latter, and if these changes go through, MM will have access to the same lust and stun without having to do the Call Pet → Press Button → Dismiss/Abandon loop.
I still think the idea of having a “scout” companion that mainly shows up in certain contexts is fine, but they need to make it so you can choose what pet fills the role, and be able to “call them in” and act as your world content tank at the expense of some damage or something.
Agreed. The elemental wasn’t remotely core to the class’ identity, and barely to Frost’s.
Frost’s ability to solo also hasn’t changed much since, though I’m sure there are people who will fervently disagree.
This isn’t a good analogy for MM’s case, though.
A man of logic. My wife has played hunter exclusively for a good 15 years now. It’s the only class she likes and she bounces between MM and BM, depending on what she’s wanting to do. She read about the changes and without missing a beat went “Marksman damage is better without a pet anyway”. She was totally indifferent to it and seems to be looking forward to checking out the changes to see the difference they make. As a guy who has never played a hunter but who reads every post because I’m nosy AF, it seems to me like they’re trying to make one spec like a deer hunter where pets don’t play a role, and the other more like a duck hunter where the pet participates in the hunt. Different types of hunter, but a hunter none the less. People just seem to be hung up on the attachment to their pets so its making “embracing the change” difficult.
Play bm play bm
Polly want a cracker? Already responded to this part before you even did
MM isn’t SV or BM. The pet has even less interaction with MM than Elemental had with frost.
It’s a perfect analogy. I can’t even remember the last time I took a pet out in solo content it really is just a crutch some people are using.
You going to respond to me calling out your lies against hunters being squishy or you continuing to ignore them?
This is objectively false, which you even admitted already;
you’re just being disingenuous with your framing.
The elemental had one utility. An extra source of freeze that was exclusively useful in solo play. An extra source that was shored up, so it’s moot.
Classes can have crutches. This is fine, Snozay.
