your gear looks good. as a tank I know the feeling and how you want to rant somewhere. necrotic wake is not an easy dungeon although they fixed the third boss. the mob count is tricky since you need to have 77% before you go up and some mobs are hard to deal with. the problem is the same as always . is the price you pay as a pug. there are no comms , you do not know each one’s ability and you never played with each other while you need to perform well.
Pretty much… I never really understand why the playerbase sees tanking as a mechanically difficult role. The two greatest tank challenges I can recall are playing simon says with the boss on when to taunt and moving the stay in melee range boss.
that’s not a social aspect though , that’s part of knowing the game and being a tank , which is not “easy” you need to actually study the game
Fair, but, doesn’t change the fact that if the DPS doesn’t know things, they don’t get yelled at nearly as much, the tanks will get freaking lambasted in an instant, and often kicked from the group (or have people leave) for even ONE little mistake, or if they forgot something, or pulled an extra mob by accident etc… could just be personal experience over the past 15 years, but we have to put up with a lot from others. The same people we are here to help and protect treat us like garbage half the time, it’s not fun.
the bigger problem i see is the high expectations people have to run perfect runs with a group of random people that everyone has a vast difference in the game knowledge . yesterday i run my first m+2 ara kara . i chose to go left after the first boss because i thought that i needed more mobs . we wiped and we had a conversation with the dps that i didn’t need to do that. in this case things went smoother. my knowledge of all three bosses mechanics made this run effective too but that came with me running ara kara multiple times through normal , heroic and mythic zero. some people just show up with prayers, hope and dreams
That has always been an issue that’s hard to combat. Seems PUGs expect everyone to be as skilled as the people running MDI or streamers running this 20 hours a day. I hold a believe that most people COULD run Mythic+ if given the chance to learn and not be yelled at constantly, but most of us don’t want to deal with that part of it. At least, I don’t, not anymore. I just don’t feel the need to subject myself to that anymore. Got enough of that in BFA and SL
I feel that. I don’t mind to explain some mechanics , but in lower keys I find that people are missing some basics and they are not self aware . check your ilvl before you try to run your m+4, because you upgraded your key does not mean you can run it. do you have consums ? enchants ? do you know the boss mechanics ? if you are doing a m+4 you should know most of that and I am not there to explain it to you. I am also learning my part so I cannot be your guide too. nowadays if I notice that the group is wiping 2-5 times on the same mechanic while i inspect their gear , I kindly tell them that we should all just move on and drop the run
I was always happy back in BFA to help teach players the dungeons. I would start Key groups specifically for that purpose, knowing we wouldn’t finish the key in time, the goal was teaching. It worked some of the time, some times it didn’t but I was never mad at them. But in order to get to that point I had to know just about everything for every roll, AND teach it… and that was a bit exhausting x.x

LOL WHAT? Tanking is easy?
I have tanked as every tank spec in the game. The only easy one is Paladin because you can also block spell damage and you still get parry stuff. It’s absurd how easy paladin tanks have it, but thats a different problem.
You need to go try actually tanking in a high M+ key. You have no idea how dumb the dps are. You just simply don’t.
As somebody who also has healed all the way into Mythic Raiding with every healer spec in the game? The dps are known for doing some of the worlds most idiotic things imaginable.
Running doom orbs to the melee for no reason. Ran the healing out of the group for no reason. Stood in the fire.
stood in the fire
stoood in the fire yet again, this time while you let your pet face-pull a bunch of mobs because you couldn’t wait for the tank to load in to the dungeon proper.
Stood in the fire with the doom orb and expected the healer to keep you alive so you can parse…
The list is literally infinite because dps keep doing stupid crap and the tanks and healers have to pull it all together like herding a bunch of overly aggressive adhd Kangaroos hyped up on sugar and a thirst for the blood of our enemies…
Like herding kittens.
Sometimes its like herding turtles walking through a field of peanut butter and molasses in the middle of winter.
I can’t believe somebody literally tried telling me that tanking is easy. Having to constantly be ahead of the crying dps that demand you go faster because they need to make sure to use every second of every cooldown on every pack we fight so they can send their parses…instead of just worrying about getting the dungeon done without wiping and pushing the tanks like you are in charge.
DPS need to learn their place a bit better. The tank is the boss. They need to monitor how fast you are going, how fast teh other dps are moving and what kind of nonsense they are likely to pull, like pulling aggro by not paying attention to the mobs to the left and walked right into them…so now I have to taunt four mobs off of you and you won’t bring them to me so I have to chase your…mean words…around the room…
Or the hunters who constantly forget to set me as a target for their misdirection and end up getting the healer killed somehow because all the threat tables get whacked out when your pet goes from 1000% threat to dead and no threat so now some mobs are attacking you, a couple are attacking the rogue who didn’t spec into their misdirect who is now running away from the mobs, which is also away from me, the healer is getting swarmed still so i have to focus them first and they are also running away from me…
Honestly, as a tank all I can really remember is having to hold the hands of the dps behind me because half the time they can’t even function without a healer or tank there to hold them on their shoulders.
this seems especially accurate for the tank.
i have long been amused by the “know the fight/dungeon” requirement in an ad as if there is only one way to handle a given set of mechanics and this random group of 5 people who have never played together before and are not on comms will inherently all know the singular way to do every single thing.
Playing with bad dps doesn’t mean your role is mechanically difficult…
And then they can have fun vote kicking each other.
standing in place and making hp bar go down isn’t hard either.
Again, I play as literally every class. I have gotten nearly every class and spec into some form of heroic and mythic raiding. I was raid lead for several years and pushed our group through Legion Mythic raiding.
DPS is literally the easiest thing in the game.
Where are your pain points in these?
As a bear stitch flesh can be if there are two of the abominations up. There seems to be two solutions to this the first is dps prioritize the abominations and cleave onto the boss but this is extremely slow. The second option that works up to a +8 very well is to pick up a shield all the orbs than the spears. When he comes down the first time use all three spears and orbs and all of your CD’s. This often one phases him if not you are likely to get a second abomination, pop the shield and try to get it down before the rot wipes everyone. There are three shields (I think) so its up to 18 seconds of 50% damage.
The marauder packs can be a pain with the pool dropping at your feet. There is a weak aura that lets you know its going to be coming ahead of time so you are already out of it before the first tick. Just make sure not to swing the cleave into any melee.
With GB there are a couple. Everything is easy up to the second boss.
You have to assume the boss is going to two phase the swords so you need to split cooldowns there.
When it comes to the adds in the area the big molten elementals use lava fist which hits like a truck and leaves a vulnerability that will stack with the groups of three smaller enemies tank buster, so never pull them together.
In the third boss area you want at least one decurse if not two and a soothe comes in handy. I usually pull the pat with the two on the left hand side as its mostly avoidable until accendence and the other two should be dead by then.
You can pop a minor CD and double up the two packs on the right or take them one at a time if you have no decurses.
The next two packs both suck and deal a ton of damage. I can only speak for bear here but Incarn is to good of a defensive to use on just one of these packs as its over kill so I pull both. Again though the curses can overwhelm the healer and this is the pack you really want a soothe as well.
The rest of the dungeon is just single pulls again.
The only other packs I have issues with are the little guys in the last four pulls before the final boss. You have to use defensives here as the melee hits harder than anything else in this dungeon and can global bears even through defensives if not focused by the healer till they are dead with the tank using self healing during the channel.

I tend to do this route.
You grab all the little guys like the normal first pull but you add the pack to the left and then pull back to los everything onto the first harvester to stack them up.
Do the normal second pull.
Third pull I grab the gatekeeper. Its inevetable that it gets butt pulled so might as well include it in the count. During this pull all the pats should swing around and you can pick them up easily.
Than I grab the mid pack.
Than I go to the far side of the boss and grab the double harvester pack.
This allows me to get an extra shield as well as skip the one marauder pack later on.
I capped on crests up to +8’s and I’m nowhere near that. Am I missing something? I mean 619 is capped heroic gear with the crests you get from +7’s and we don’t have anywhere near enough to cap all of the gear we are getting from +7’s.
Maybe with good luck from the end of heroic bosses?
As someone who was in a group and their key got bricked due to a slow tank, no. Learn your stuff prior to joining keys. You can do M0 or YouTube. M+ Keys are not the place for slow tanks and patience. There’s a timer for a reason. Get moving or get blacklisted.
If the easiest role in the game needs me to hold its hand and wipe its bottom… I’ll just run premades.
we’ve already covered this yet you keep reverting back to the gameplay aspects and not the leadership, knowledge of routes, situational awareness and pulling based on cooldowns (which is kinda advanced, imo). Also, the “thick skin” required to deal with mouthy melee dps who get mad when tehy thyink that blitzing every mob in a pack with their biggest AoE right as the pull starts and then ripping threat and dying is always our fault
It’s not “the easiest” because if it were, there’d never be a shortage.
I would argue that a good tank also needs a solid rotation and needs to know when and what to interrupt. They also need spacial awareness, threat awareness, pathing knowledge, the list goes on.
Because there isn’t any leadership in 10s and 11s you just do the dungeon. Hearing people complain that low keys are uncoordinated is a “well duh” response at best.
