Perhaps, perhaps not. Either way, it’s quite a lot of work and while classic servers had an extremely high demand, sliders for characters don’t. Would they be nice to have? Absolutely. I’d personally love them, especially if they give me the ability to change arm/leg thickness so I can have a skinny human or a barrel-chested dwarf warrior with thick arms and legs etc.
But I can’t see them going forward with it. Not with WoW. Maybe with the MMO after WoW, if one ever comes, because they could implement that from the beginning, but not within WoW.
The thing is, we really do know how this works. Belive what you want.
There is no excuse for such bad communication. Cutting a feature for at least 2 years which such unequal options for the different races is simply bad. If they would say X Y was the reason, or they will do X Y instead, but work on it after X Y was done, it would be different.
I read the first paragraph and am already getting the vibe that you’re the type to ask for a refund at McDonald’s because you didn’t get enough fries after finishing your fries.
Good luck with that. Pretty sure when you accepted the TOS agreement from Shadowlands, you agreed to any changes being made.
Plus they didn’t cancel anything from what I can see, they just never planned on doing everything in one expansion.
… so what, you going to blame it on the shareholders? I think you should blame it on your teachers, they did a lousy job at teaching people how to read.
When are you quitting? I would have thought they would have answered your ticket for a refund already. I am guessing you still posting means they didn’t give you one.
“We really do” - oh, so you’re a game designer on a million-user MMO who has also seen WoW’s source code? BS.
I mean, communication could always be better. Not gonna claim otherwise. shrugs
But at the same time, players need to stop acting like everything Blizzard says they’d like to do is a promise. They keep couching everything they say with disclaimers that things are plans not promises… and yet people still constantly misconstrue it.
Stop it. Customization was a main feature and they said they will add more during Shadowlands and beyond. Now we will get nothing through out all of Shadowlands.
It’s not even close between the rases
Perhaps you don’t care, as a minority on this. I care they cut a main selling point and we won’t get anything for the next 2 years if we are lucky.
Go write somewhere about something you really care about.
I do care. I’d LOVE to be able to have different body-types. One of the things I dislike most about WoW character design is how homogenous they are. Hell, I even posted threads asking for it on the old forums back in CAta and Wrath, because I wanted to make a human male character who was a wizened old mage, but there’s not really a way to make a ‘wizened’ human mage.
But I also understand:
The engine wasn’t really designed for it, and retroactively adding it is probably not easy. And that, outside of Blizzard devs, none of us ACTUALLY know how hard it would be or what problems it would introduce. We can make educated guesses based off of reverse engineered code used for private servers… but even that doesn’t give us the full story.
When someone says “We’re hoping to do this” or “We’re planning to do this” or, even moreso, “This is not the end” - it does not PROMISE it within any specific timeframe.
Being a jerk to developers doesn’t help them work faster.
Getting up in arms over a change in plans in a large scale game is so incredibly futile that you might as well get angry at the weather-man for not predicting the weather to the tenth of a degree.
That’s simply wrong. Some designs already exist in game and Blizzard made a big deal about their new tech and how much easier it now is for them.
It’s also no excuse, to cut the main selling feature of an expansion.
That’s what they said during Blizzcon 2021, not during all of their advertisement and interviews before Shadowlands. It’s called lying, or going back on their word.
They said they will add nothing during Shadowlands. Go listen to the 2021 Blizzcon Q&A.
Perhaps in the future, not during Shadowlands.
The devs were really disrespectful to the fans. Extremely so. The devs have to hear our frustration. Without backlash nothing will change and in 2 years we won’t get anything new. We are talking about years.
That’s so silly I don’t even have anything to say.
They did not even give any excuse, nothing at all.
More so: “Give us more feedback”, yeah sure.
So maybe… just MAYBE… they updated things, thought it would be easy… then tried to implement it for players and it just broke in ways they didn’t foresee. And they haven’t been able to fix it.
'cause ya know… that makes more sense than “MWAHAHAHAHAH We’re gonna PROMISE this thing and then NOT DO IT JUST TO SPITE KAZTHAN!!! HAHAHAHA BEST PRANK EVER!”
But ya know, I don’t expect you to be sympathetic. Given the tone of your post, you don’t seem like the type.
I read a lot of those interviews. Most of them had the tone of ‘this is going to be a big project going forward. This is not the end of customization.’ not ‘Ya, every patch is gonna have new options. Look forward to it’. But hey, if you choose to interpret it in the way you want and get disappointed, I can’t stop you.
And that lines up with what they said in the Shadowlands Q and A. They’re working on it, it’ll happen eventually, but they’re not going to do it piecemeal during Shadowlands.
No, you don’t need to be a jerk to them. Nobody ever deserves to have you be a jerk to them over a videogame. That’s just freaking ABSURD. I can’t believe you think the people who spend their entire professional lives making something for our enjoyment deserve to be treated like garbage just because something they did wasn’t to your preference.
You can share your perspective of how you’d like things to go in a respectful, polite manner like two human beings. You don’t need to throw a tantrum.
No they are even more scarce than developers; they are graphic artists familiar with Blizzard unique custom internal-developed tools. They are needed on content development - right now the game needs more content, not more hair styles.
You may not care, but those who main races that only have four skin colors or ones that have bugged or unfinished since day one were looking forward to fixes and more than four options. Now we get nothing.
They updated their tech indeed. Yes it’s much simpler now to implement things. They’ve learned a lot and developed new ways to implement certain things and customization’s.
Your speculation is not based on anything and again, it’s not an excuse. At the very least it wouldn’t be an excuse for the disrespectful treatment of their fans.
If there is some reason, simply explain what happened and we can understand it. Don’t say nothing: Cut the main selling feature for 2 years (at least) and expect people to read your mind after asking them for feedback. Not even addressing anything: Like “We have now a lot of ideas we can work with.”
They flat out said they will add more things during Shadowlands and yes, it was their main selling feature. No matter how you want to see it.
Sorry I don’t like getting treated with such a level of disrepect.
I don’t like things like:
“Don’t you guys have phones?”
The WC 3 Reforged disaster.
Cutting more features from their expansions and now this.
I don’t like being asked for feedback and then simply told: “We don’t do anything. Maybe after Shadowlands. Maybe.” No explanation, just disrespect and out of touch behavior.
We, the fans are treated like garbage, no one else. Stating your disappointment over those things is not equal to that, or what your are describing.
It makes more sense than your ‘they’re being willfully disrespectful to us’ idea.
But I get it. You feel personally offended by design decisions, want to be a jerk to someone about it, and are looking for justification for that.
And thus there’s nothing I can say to you. It’s sad that you’re contributing to the disgusting way so many gamers treat game devs… but there’s nothing I can do about it except disassociate with you so at least I don’t have anyone in my circle who is like that.
So… have a nice day. I hope that at least your actions bring you satisfaction because I guarantee they won’t bring change - there’s no reason for the devs to listen to someone acting like a petulant 12 year old.
It really doesn’t. They would’ve said so if something like that was the case and you know what? People would understand it.
The disrespect from them was real. Didn’t you see the Q&A? Cutting your main seeling feature and not even mentioning the feedback you asked for, saying you don’'t have plans for at least 2 years of what was meant to be in Shadowlands is really terrible communication.
Even better, asking for more feedback, for…what? A maybe? Right.
Any explanation would have been better and frankly needed.
Ah you are one of those “optics people”.
You don’t care how terrible they are treating their fans, right.
Hey was I ripped off as they destroyed my original WC3?
Oh no, they care. They care more than they really should given how they’re treated.
The sad part is that if you knew even ONE person working on a video game you’d know that they’re predominately people who are underpaid working excruciatingly long hours… who only do the job because they’re passionate about it.
And typically the result of that? Death threats and vitriol from people like you who think that it’s warranted.
But you don’t care. You don’t care because they’re not people to you. They’re just targets for your frustrations.
