Art director Ely Cannon notes that the team’s “main priority” is on creating endgame content, new zones, mechanics, and bosses, but cosmetics will remain an ongoing focus.
“Whenever possible, we’ll keep expanding on [customization],” Cannon said in an interview with Polygon. “We’re really, really happy with what we’ve achieved so far and super positive that the community is so positive about that.”
Why will these large-scale cosmetic drops keep coming? Because Shadowlands overhauled the way that cosmetics work; it’s no longer an exponential increase in effort to keep adding systems like the Night Warrior cosmetics. Now everything is on the table — including options like Forest Trolls or Blood Elf hair colors on Void Elves.
We are still waiting to see datamined options for several races in the Shadowlands beta, and then the expansion itself is planned to launch in fall 2020. For now, players are keeping an eye on what’s next, so they can plan and update their main accordingly.
“I think we’re going down the list of races that haven’t been updated yet, getting them into alpha — soon to be beta,” says World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas. “But that’s an effort that’s gonna continue after Shadowlands is out the door.”

We don’t really need more systems, we need balance adjustments to the current ones, a PvE Valor/Justice point system with a vendor for raids and M+ that mirrors PvP and content. That, plus content. They could also move soulash out of Torghast and put actual cosmetics in there like what was promised originally.
I don’t need more soulbinds ranks or conduits. If anything I’d love to never work on that crap again but this team thinks the gear carrot alone can’t keep people engaged so we need about 5 different carrots to chase after apparently.

Actual Content sucks.
Nothing more than pointless grinds and for what? No Tier Gear from Raids, and everything else? Yea no excuse.

Why make customization options for free when those artists can make store mounts instead?? /s
Maybe that is the answer to light a fire under their butts. Putting customization options in the store (I can’t believe I even said that, but it is cynically appropriate ).

Honestly we should all just be under the assumption whenever blizzard says something that it is a lie. I might as well be wearing clown makeup thinking that blizzard would actually continue with customizations like they said.

This is such a stupid thing to lie about tho that’s why I’m mad

If I recall right blizzard said during pre-patch we’d get more customization options in Shadowlands. Now they are going back on it? Bit messed up. Not only that but there was a great deal of options data mined that weren’t put into game. Then not to mention some races have way more options than others. Male Blood elfs lack compared to their female counter parts. Female human have more diverse options for their customization compared to all the other races. PLUS, allied races don’t have any thing and don’t hold up to the older races with options. Nightborne males I’m looking at you.

You know, you’d think with the amount of focus on people wanting mounts and cool transmog items you’d think blizzard would realize a big portion of the community likes customization.

This is so angering. Blizzard said the initial customizations at launch were just that, initial ones and that more were coming later. Nightborne customization options are a joke. There are already existing in-game assets for nightborne npcs they should have and I don’t understand why nightborne can’t have some of the night elf options the same way the void elves have blood elf ones. Come on Blizzard, this was a major selling point for a lot of people and going back on things you’ve promised is a real bad look.

Since customization options and race/class combos are now off the table, does that mean it’s time to start pushing for 4th specs? Class skins? Or a whole new class?

No tier sets.
No heritage armor.
No more customization.
Blizzard is trying so hard to lose their playerbase. Unsubbing till TBC comes out, that’s the only good thing announced in this Blizzcon.

Earth-Themed Tank Shaman, Sunwalker paladin Skin, and a Tinker Class

Sounds good! Earth tank shaman should be like earthbenders in Avatar. Pulling walls of rock out of the ground for defense, spikes for attack, levitating boulders to crush. It would be tons of fun!

Weird not having much expectations from blizzcon and still being disappointed
I’m feeling a wod 2.0 here

I am extremely disappointed that nothing new will be coming. I was hoping for troll beards, necklaces, etc. This was the main thing I was looking forward to at Blizzconline - the announcement of what other customizations we could expect. I’m so upset.

And the thing is, I hadn’t read any of this stuff when I made my comment. I don’t need to. It’s obvious. This is why I scratch my head at people’s unrealistic expectations.
- Allied Races were a major focus for the launch of BFA.
- Customization was a major focus for the launch of SL.
I’m absolutely sure they want to add more. They may have even said they would. If so, I’m sure they fully intended to, but then reality hits home.
Especially with regards to customization options, this sort of stuff is ultimately minor fluff. It will always take a back seat compared to the rest of the content. And it will always be the first thing pushed off the list when things (inevitably) get triaged and re-prioritized.
The only reason you got updates at all is because, again, they made it a major focus as a feature for Shadowlands launch. You will not see any more updates until they once again decide to do a big push on it. There won’t be any little bits and pieces here and there. There will always be something more important to do first.

I absolutely agree. To me “systems” has become a dirty word. Blizzard needs to realize that they don’t have to reinvent the wheel every expansion. They need to recognize when a system is good enough to be kept going forward, and when there is and isn’t a need for something new.
I’d also like to see them stop wasting time developing new systems when they aren’t necessary, and use that time to create more content. “Systems” are not “content”.

This is the key problem with WoW today. They create a bunch of stuff for an expansion then ditch it for the next. They should be carrying stuff over and iterating on it, not cutting it and moving on. We need new ARs, new artifacts, new garrisons, new farms, etc.

i don’t know how but our voice need to be heard and blizzard really needs to somehow listen, we all had such good hopes we will have good news about races in poor state of customizations just to be crushed by a brushed off answer
it seems like the community are more passionate about the game than the devs themselves, its just sad…

linking it here so maybe they do implement some of those ideas
