This is WoW, never set your expectations higher than the ground.
What would you even do with player housing? We got pretty much everything they could think of with Garrisons and it was universally terrible for the community, people just AFKed alone in them.
“Garrisons had a lot to do”…Um, I don’t know what game you were playing, it certainly wasn’t WOD.
Do not underestimate how much people like building their own house, crafting things for it, earning things for it, trading things for it, killing things to go in it. The creativity and sense of control and ownership that a home in a game brings is noteworthy and can be very very satisfying. I sure as heck would have a boss trophy board with dragon teeth on it or something. Our first guild Nef kill back in Vanilla will never leave my brain. I still have items in my bank that came from old encounters for sentimental victory reasons. I could put that sword on a wall darn it!
With all the art assets, crafting, lore, encounters, and activities in WoW the means to customize and decorate is kind of endless. Entire systems can be built around getting those things into player hands for use in a “house plot”.
It is not for everyone, but there are a considerable number who really really like it as a game feature. I think WoW missed the boat on it though. They could have done it, but it is possible that making it work in a game as old as WoW would have taken a re-design from the ground up - and that the effort may not be something they felt was worth it - and would have felt “patched in” instead of organic to the game.
i dont want housing myself, player housing = even emptier capital cities.
The Mists farm is nice.
I don’t know if that is all they will doing going forward. I HOPE they keep it at cosmetic. Many other games do, and are ok financially. What would kill it is if they gate actual gameplay behind $$ - which they don’t. What I think would improve their business model is offering some of their cosmetics in a lower price tier. Such as accessories (hats, glasses, hair do-dads, etc.) as separate things. The current bundles are very expensive. Sort of like - if someone buys ONE they have paid the price for a Steam game or something.
Then again, the game is enjoyable enough and solid enough I feel the Devs earned the $30 someone might spend on a fancy outfit once a year.
Forever a murder hobo in WoW
thank god it didnt happen, housing would destroy this game
I think player housing would be nice for rpers - the most easily satisfied group within the player population. Why not give them something that’s specifically made for them once in a while?
Don’t worry player housing already exists just click that thing called the Garrison Hearthstone, and it will send you right to your very own instanced player home.
Night elves are super rich, they mastered making gold by dancing on mailboxes!
same thing I do with my 15ish ESO houses? find stuff to put in there. Use it as a free hearth. lol
That’s sort of the point.
They had more to do than housing ever could. Yet people still want housing.
There is a chance the Microsoft will be impressed with the monetization numbers in ESO relative to housing and housing related objects and get something like it added to wow.
Someday@, under new management, won’t happen anytime soon.
They are more like airports now. Oribos especially.
Valdrakken with dragons swirling around
No wonder why Stormwind government wants to segregate them. They’re bringing the value of naked Elves down!
Garrisons did have a ton to do if you leveled them, and yes, I played WoD.
Whoa… a flying city! Are you serious?!
How does it do that?
Do you live here?
Come to think of it… do you live ANYwhere?
I thought that last year, Ion stated that Housing was 2 or 3 expansions away but it was being discussed.
Though, I suspect that housing will be a let down like Open World Solo Events, Torghast, and Garrisons. Maybe even Delves will fall into that category…
