Lol I know. Asking if I even play the game ha ha.

Yeah weā€™ll see who PVPā€™s with your mythic PVE gear on gained with my DH 2 button mash in one day ha ha. Oh here we go again War and Peace incoming from our PVE player in a PVP forum

I said DH because itā€™s the most recent one I leveled to 120 :man_shrugging:
Class doesnā€™t matter, the act of gearing up is quite simple. Hit 120, buy some crafted gear for the ilvl boost. Run a few heroics to get closer to 430ish, do the gear WQs, run some M+.
Gearing seriously is not difficult or lengthy to acquire. It is PvE and I understand if people donā€™t enjoy that, but it doesnā€™t change that itā€™s a process that can be done in just one day off from work.

Nope. This rogue.
Iā€™ll buy some crafted ~400 gear from the AH to be on your level.

Challenge is there, Mr ā€œdo you even pvpā€.
Itā€™s up to you to accept it.
Yes or no?

ah fair nuff

actually I reckon Aff Lock is the fastest class/spec to level up due to how many mobs they can burn down around them while skipping through the meadows to the tune of Julie Andrews with their Tank pet in tow

Oh I get what you are saying re gear I could do it if I wanted to. I donā€™t want to.

Sorry I donā€™t hand out my ID willy nilly you see Iā€™m a woman, and thatā€™s not something I want to do, I am very careful who I choose to be friends with in this game, re bad experiences in the past.

Thanks for the offer though.

Get on this forum post and support PVP

Turning down a duel tsk tsk. Female or not, itā€™s a bnet inviteā€¦

hate to break it to you but unless they recently changed their minds spamming m+ gear will basically be pointless.

Considering they just started showing today how pvp upgrade is looking promising since honor gear alone starts off at 158 and upgrades to 190 (the base ilvl of conquest gear) and just 10 ilvls below normal raid.

So now we have to see what conquest gear costs are going to be, how much conquest cap is going to be, and if ilvl is going to be tied to rating or not.

This will be my last word on this. Iā€™m not going down the Jugaa rabbit hole. You donā€™t know my story, you donā€™t know what Iā€™ve been through. There are reasons for not handing out my bnet I am not getting into with you. Peace.

is secure. Donā€™t hand out real ID and youā€™ll have no issues.

I mean if they arenā€™t comfortable they arenā€™t comfortable.

Then they really shouldnā€™t call out others about pvp.

I considered posting that she could simply whisper my character in-game and tell me where to meet for a duel. No btag needed for that.
But I recognize that she is only refusing because sheā€™s afraid to get rolled in a duel after trash talking the non-pvper, so I let it go. Iā€™m not that desperate for one more easy HK.

Gear is so important in PvP because devs want the deciding factor in who wins and who is the loser to be which team has the better PvE gear.

I mean maybe Iā€™m in the minority but I think gear should be a factor in PvP. Itā€™s an RPG after all.

With that said, I think there should be options for PvP players to obtain the gear and that current PvP gameplay basically necessitates designing it as a grind that feels like a grind. There are no bosses to kill or anything, only other players, and BGs are over so quickly that BGs played isnā€™t a great metric for gear.

So you could say ā€œOkay, we could sort of emulate the PvE track by giving you a % chance to receive specific pieces per BG on win. So WSG could have a % chance to give you boots upgrades, AB chest, etcā€ but then you only need to do it once and youā€™re done playing that BG forever if gearing is your goal. There has to be a consistent way to encourage and reward PvP. On top of that, there needs to be a reward for doing well, but gear rewards just kind of mean the rich get richer in a way. People romanticize the weapons/shoulders rewards from TBC, but the reality is that those upgrades were more significant than folks though, especially in later seasons when the delta between stats on different pieces started to increase.

I donā€™t know what the answer is, but gear tracks in WoW PvP are always difficult. It has nothing to do with whether or not itā€™s a PvE game or a PvP game or what Blizzard devs play, it has to do with the fact that PvP in WoW is just a fairly small corner of the game in terms of content. And that isnā€™t because Blizzard hates PvP, itā€™s because it has to be a small corner to ensure low queue times and to make sure that content gets used. I say this as a long-time PvP-focused player (though this expansion I sat it out).

So for PvP we need a gear system that:

  • Encourages players to repeat content and not stop playing a BG once theyā€™re ā€œdoneā€ with it
  • Provides an alternative, sustained gear track for PvP-focused players that keeps their gear competitive with PvE gear
  • Canā€™t rely too heavily on wins vs losses due to faction imbalance problems (queue times for one), streaks feeling terrible already, etc.
  • Canā€™t dole out rewards too quickly lest PvP players feel like theyā€™ve run out of ways to improve their gear and character (still an RPG, remember that)
  • Canā€™t dole them out too slowly lest players feel like catch-up is impossible. These players get steamrolled and also contribute negatively to their BGs
  • Creates a reward system that both makes getting to higher ranks and improving your play feel impactful and desired but doesnā€™t ā€œpull up the ladderā€ for improving, new, and aspiring players
  • Gives PvE players a reason to dip their toes in on occasion so that they can encourage more cross-community interaction (vice versa is also true)

Itā€™s all very very complicated and thereā€™s a lot to consider. PvP players are also a harder group to please due to the inherent competitive differences between raiding/mythics and playing against other humans that will always exist.

Reading this one line makes me feel like youā€™re a strict PvE-er who would quit running a dungeon once you got the drop you needed (which is understandable) and thinks bgs work the same way.

Iā€™m absolutely not at all. Iā€™m the kind of player who plays BGs not for the rewards but for fun.

However there are a lot of players who only want to use content so long as they can get something out of it. That is a reality you canā€™t ignore, and for PvP it is especially dangerous because if PvE people stop engaging with BGs, the pool of players shrinks and queue times shoot up.

There almost has to be some kind of treadmill, and because PvP is PvP, there are fewer ways to mask that treadmill.
