I came back to Wow after a break. I remember back in Pandaria where gear was not so important and you could easily get max ilvl (for PVP) with Conquest Points and buy PVP gear. I understand why PVP gear is not necessary in the game, but why do PVE players have a massive advantage over people who just want to PVP and do BGs. I hate how I have to raid and do boring quest lines (sorry but the Lore about a giant blob infecting the whole world is not remotely appealing to me) just to get gear to be competitive in PVP. Is there any way around this in BFA and please tell me will Shadowlands address this?
Whoever was in charge of PVP in Pandaria had the right idea. Please bring him back. I remember his face. Dark hair and just an awesome passion for BG content.
PVErs whined their mythic raid gear only gave them a 10-20% advantage over other players in Legion (there were templates that set everyone to an equal footing, plus an overall bonus based on ilvl).
So now we have the current system. Ion thinks it’s better.
In legion, previous/old tier set bonuses at lower item levels were outperforming current raid tier sets for certain specs. This was messing up their hamster wheel and players weren’t grinding enough current content to pad the time played metrics. In order to battle this, blizz removed set bonuses and also made each tier go up even more item level. It’s all about time played metrics now. They want you to replace all of your gear each tier.
In bgs you will see dps with 150k hp and also 650k hp.
Because its easy to sell PVE carries for gold, and people buy the gold with real money from Blizzard, who is owned by Activision, the kings of in game transactions. Having PVE gear be way better, easier to obtain and basically pay to win is the most Activision thing I’ve ever seen.
The simple answer is that it’s easier to acquire gear from PvE sources then PvP.
With PvP you have to farm conquest to get gear and at most you’re getting 1-2 pieces a week. In that same time frame I can do like 10-20 Mythic+ dungeons that drop better or the same quality or I can go pug raids with a high probability chance of loot.
I farmed Mythic+ dungeons and I’m already at iLvl 470 when I was like 400 3 weeks ago. That’s just how fast you can farm gear.
Because dungeons are almost entirely pre-scripted/pre-telegraphed, predictable NPCs, Item level is less important than being a good player/knowing the dungeons. Just ball-park figures, but you can probably do +10’s at ~440 item level, and +15’s can probably be started with as low as ~450 item level.
Getting into pug groups is another matter entirely, to “get around” this hurdle I suggest simply using your own key (so you are always guaranteed a spot). I’ve seen streamers (and I watch my share of M+ streamers) clearing +15’s with their 445(ish) item level alts. Like I said, being a good player/knowing the dungeons is more important for lower keys.
Gear only starts to matter much more in high keys (and the average bg’er probably isn’t doing those anyways).
I started the low keys (1-10) at like iLvl 445 and once I got to like 460-465 I started pushing higher (11-15s). Basically like a week of the first and two weeks of the other. Usually 1 out of 2 dungeons you get a piece of loot.
Was that even possible? Their ilevels would have needed to be 100 to 200 higher.
There’s some sort of new addon/website called Raider IO. If you want to obtain the best mythic plus gear, you need a high ilevel (470+) and a high Raider IO score to get accepted into mythic 15+ pugs.
Do you even know what you’re speaking about? Do you think PVP players asked for Mythic + gear, Corruption, essences etc etc to be in random bgs? Really?
We all knew there was no PvP vendor. Several of us warned the anti template squad their choice for gear to matter would have consequences. PvE gear being superior is the reward.
You’re also including systems that were added in 8.2 and 8.3 for some reason.
There’s a good chance PvE gear will still be better and quicker to acquire again , excluding requiring a medallion.
