because it’s a convenient scapegoat. you don’t have to admit you could use some improvement at the game if you just say “i hate timers so i won’t even try!”
They are TIME related. Not TIMER related. There’s a difference.
Previously, one could advance to the next level of Torghast simply by finishing it without dying too many times. Now you have to read up on bonuses to cadge points to get stars.
When I ran through without pausing or dying, using empowerment each time it came up, and clearing 99%, I got three stars.
This seems bogus. I think you should be able to get 4 stars and progress to the next level if you clear it 95% with only one or two deaths. Let 5 stars be a glory of crazy bonus collecting and achievements for those who are amused by such things.
This is why being able to play at your pace was important. BlizZard screwed up this big step with 9.1 changes.
We warned them in beta don’t do it.
I’m confused. I just got done with mortregar level 10 and got 4 gems/stars even with 2 deaths (from garbage mortregar related stuff) and taking my sweet time.
Before 9.1 I killed every mob and did whatever side stuff I ran across without rushing and I’ve been doing the same thing after and have been getting 4 gems every time.
What exactly is the issue people are having?
Torgast is not fixable,
I just did Mort’regar level 10, with 97% clearing ( I don’t know if they count the ones you can’t kill, ie they come back to life no matter what, against you), no deaths, 16 points empowerment and got 3 gems. So I’m like screw this - I hate this system. There’s too much RNG involved. Just really unfair.
The issue is this: your experience is not my experience. My first run after 9.1 dropped, I went through level 8 racing faster than I ever have, 99% completion, zero deaths, and I got 3 gems. My second run, I altered my play considerably. Still racing, but I learned not to use empowered mode for power, instead strictly to squeeze out points from using it at the end of a big pull and then breaking a bunch of pots. I changed my anima strategy to focus on bonus points. No epic powers, no duplicates. I was able to get 5 gems but only just barely. If I had gone any slower, if I had missed a bonus, if I had used empowered less efficiently, I would have dropped to 4.
None of this is fun for me. I don’t like going fast. I don’t like passing up fun anima powers for the sake of arbitrary score bonuses. I don’t like min-maxing a stupid meter for a brief window of score enhancement. Why can’t we be rewarded for doing the fun part of Roguelike gameplay that should be the reason Torghast exists? Getting a bunch of overpowered abilities and unleashing them on difficult bosses is all I want out of this place.
Question…if anyone wants to stop arguing
If I’m chilling at the opening of each floor, taking a break…does that count against my time?
I’m still trying to figure out the point system so any input would help me
The couple of times I’ve 5 starred it is because I killed the vendor and took his anima power, which meaner I had no one to buy from after I beat the vault
There is a semantic difference between “time” and “timer”, of course. But the timer is constantly ticking in order to measure time, so you can’t really separate them.
When players say they don’t want time to matter, they not only mean the time for completion of the entire run, but the way that the run is completed.
If you are undergeared or prefer to pull elites one at time, it will not be feasible to earn all the timer-related bonuses to bump your 4 stars up to 5 stars, especially when accidental deaths will cost you more points than you stand to gain by pushing yourself to go too quickly.
I dont know if you consider me undergeared but I’ve been declined to every torghast group I’ve ever applied to presumably because of my gear or lack of io.
I was even just a few ilvl lower when I did my first adamant vaults.
I didn’t rush whatsoever. The only time I try to be quick is during empowered when I’m trying to round up more non elite mobs.
For elites ill definitely try to clear out any mobs around first. And always wait for my big cd’s to be ready before an elite.
Admitedly I’m a bit at my gear limit for a couple certain rares, i’ll probably have to skip on layer 11. But im expecting to 4 gem it still to get to 12 still. From there I know I’ll have to farm more korthia/tower knowledge before I can start 5 gem layer 12.
But the nice thing is I can just go back to layer 9 and take all the epics again and not worry about how many gems I get cause you still get cinders/tower knowledge regardless.
Exactly.
If you don’t play a certain way you are punished.
I’m not sure what the difference is. I haven’t changed my playstyle at all from 9.0 to 9.1.
I used cds when they are up, including the new empowered thing. I kill everything, break everything, open everything, save everyone, go slow, pick whatever powers I like and I’ve gotten 4 gems from every torghast I’ve been in since the patch dropped.
I soloed TC got my mount in January. All I was doing was Torghast for months. It’s not like I don’t know the mobs, halls, pulls, powers and my class. I don’t like this system and I’ll say it with my pocketbook and with my time which can be better spent elsewhere.
You’re guaranteed at least one. I haven’t seen a single run where I haven’t seen a single prisoner whatsoever.
Yeah this I think is pretty fair.
Pick one or the other. If you care THAT much about cosmetics, you honestly shouldn’t be super fixated on the 5-star run. And if you have all the cosmetics by this point, it’s literally not a problem because they are each a one-time purchase.
Nevermind that a five star run bith requisite to enter the Adamant Vaults, wherein lieth what else but cosmetic rewards. Odd that such a reward would go to one whom careth not therefor, meseems.
I did not hate the prior incarnation of Torghast, but I willn’t lie and say 'twas grand. The reason therefore still bith. 'Tis still whither thou must needs goest to the requisite currency for thy legendary gear obtainest; 'tis still a chore.
This. To hell with the damn scoring system.
