New Torghast Feedback

I’m not saying you don’t know how to play. All I’m saying is that I’m actively ignoring the scoreboard, like paying zero attention to it. I don’t even know how the scoring or points work and I’m still finishing everything with 4 gems and am under the recommended ilvl to boot. It can’t be that complicated.

It’s not so much that it’s particularly hard to get 5 stars. It’s not. I think it’s mostly that you need to get some of the hidden achievements and aside from the plunderer one that is being hinted at by the blessing that makes the trader killable, you have to look them up. It’s simply annoying that almost nothing in this game is just intuitive gameplay for people who like intuitive gameplay. Not taking any elite powers in something that’s supposed to be like a roguelike is also counterintuitive.

I personally still like Torghast, but I think they went a little bit too far with all the hidden bonus things, not because they’re hard but they’re a) hidden and b) it’s heavily dependent on rng whether you can even do some of them.

Not as much an elitist vs casual thing as a people who like studying and memorizing guides vs people who like intuitive gameplay thing, I think.

I’ll elaborate on that by saying that it’s more than just counterintuitive. To get a good score in Torghast requires me to warp my gameplay in a way that’s not necessary for success in simply clearing the place. In fact, some of the bonuses are actually for doing things that hurt my build, intentional handicaps I have to take purely to game the scoreboard. And none of these things (going fast, skipping anima powers, min-maxing the empowered bar) are things I would do voluntarily if I were trying to have fun.

The lack of freedom to choose the way I prefer to play is the problem I have with it. We were promised a system where we could thoroughly complete the floors, or go fast, and choose our preferred way to succeed. Instead we have a system where we need to do both of those things and more, and we have to follow a strict pattern that was imposed on us.
