New Shaman Talent Changes

I mean, I would expect some sort of attempt at compensation similar to what they attempted with other specs but I don’t expect them to redesign the entire kit just to cater to 2h. If it performs a bit worse, I don’t mind. No different than running LotFW as my legendary item in SL over the meta picks.

I’m not really a supporter of 2H to be frank, but I was mainly asking because it certainly is a real possibility it’s not what anyone would expect, both positively or negatively.

2H enhance could be 10% better than DW for all we know, it could also but be worse, or stuck with a boring build that only spams stormstrike because the wind fury imbuement is just better you don’t take lava lash.

That’s at least how it felt on Frost DK to me. If you choose DW or 2H then some talent combos were just significantly better for their respective plaustyles. Fury warrior is in a similar boat, you can take DW 1H or 2H but one is always so much better (and let’s be honest Dw the 2Hs is cooler) that it doesn’t matter if measures are taken to bring them in line.

So that is mainly why I am asking, the playstyle will likely be drastically different for 2H if it was introduced. Additionally, it’s likely that there will be a great divide in what talents to use for DW and to use for 2H. If players are fine with the unforeseen consequences, that have a precedent of happening, then I’m all for 2H existing.

To relate a little, in the newest Shaman update there is a talent that says it “shoots lighting from your shield”. I thought at first this meant Lightning Shield but it might mean just your equipped shield. To me that is a potential negative depending on the on use effects of weapons, or even a potential staff legendary if one is introduced since that would make a new talent is unusable with it.

Where dis? What is it called? I can’t find it.

the thunderstrike ward lightning strike animation looks so sick, i hope they keep it. it looks better than tempest tbh

Not asking for fun, I enjoy the class already.
I’m asking for flame shock to be less frustrating to interact with in AoE scenarios. It’s a big reason why I don’t touch m+. And as for primordial wave, they can toss it and experiment with literally anything new and i’d be fine with it.

Well, it doesn’t say what that person quoted it as, but it does exist. It says this:

Blockquote * New Talent: Thunderstrike Ward – Imbue your shield with the element of Lightning for 1 hour, giving Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning a chance to call down 2 Thunderstrikes on your target for Nature damage.

I wouldn’t say it’s lazy giving Shaman a tank spec. Especially if you look at the possibilities of hero talents. As much as I would love to see a whole separate tree for Shaman Tank and various or specs for other classes, the original ret pally style spec with seal twisting for example .

I think that the answer to all this is in hero talents. I think that we could even just be looking at the start of this whole thing where they could release more and more hero talents in the expansions moving forward unlocking more flavours and styles across all the classes with out making huge changes to the main specs for every xpac.
This could just be testing the possibilities of Hero talents before they go deep into it so that they don’t make huge promises in something that they haven’t tested before. And SoD could just be experiment for all of this.

Think about it, hero talents are pretty much sub classes and a quick and easy way to completely flip a class up side down just from some small changes. And from that you could get that special wolf form spec that you’re after

All I’m saying is, keep your mind open for possibilities like this. I’m not saying that this will happen or that you’re wrong, cos you’re not. I’m just saying that this might be the option Blizzard could take to add more flavour and endless options to the classes for the future of WoW. And it’s been on a lot of peoples minds for a along time.

I was expecting something more grand. Just moving around and changing talents in trees isn’t what I imagined for shamans. The class has an identity crisis and needs a redesign.

Even their notes on ele they’re trying to make one spec multiple ideas at once and it doesn’t work. You end up with a build that doesn’t excel at anything and talents that don’t mesh together

Play a hunter or lock if you want a pet class, its bs like this why the class has 0 direction and totems were taken away.

Will have to test it out but totemic looks absolutely fantastic with these changes to both trees as resto.

Ascendance on a 2 min cd is pure yum, White Waters is excellent, making SLT even more OP is hilarious in the right situations…I did not like the changes to the MTT buff and Master of the Elements but the other toys we got easily make up for it.

And more totems to cast! I prefer them doubling down on our strenghts for they usually can’t fix the weaknesses pretty well.

I’m…less than thrilled with the enhance changes. To say I’m angry would be an understatement and I’m not gonna re-hash old points at this point because its clearly just wasting breath.

Guess I’ll be shelving the shaman for next expansion and heading to play something else instead.

No they aren’t

Holy paladins can transmog two handed weapons over a one hand and shield, and still perform auto attacks and special attacks without it looking unnatural. So I vote they just let shaman transmog two handers for people that want two handers. That would satisfy me.

It would take a lot more work to actually implement a two handed talent option and they clearly aren’t interested in that for this expansion.

Haven’t had the time to read through everything. Have they released the updated talent tree, looking for something I can hover over and read through the tree itself. I have a hard time just reading the notes and framing a picture of all the changes.

These changes feel like the final nail in terms of me never playing WoW again. In addition to all of the problems I’ve laid out here, Make Mythic Raid Lockouts/ID's Less Restrictive Ele seems like a “dead” spec now, especially for PVP, unless they happen to make PVP talents like “Volcanic Surge” actually affect lava burst, instead of lightning spells, ffs. Seriously, looking at TWW beta, while certain talents requiring one point instead of two is good, not only is the placement of certain talents objectively worse, like Nature’s Guardian requiring Tremor Totem, or Hex, or Ancestral Guidance and subsequent talents requiring Spiritwalker’s Grace, but Windspeaker’s Lava Resurgence is GONE, and Primordial wave doesn’t have the option to proc Lava Surge, which means most lava bursts have to be hard cast now. I really really do not like this, and looking at comments, a lot of people don’t either, it feels like not only is it a nerf, ele used to have multiple viable builds for different elements, but now it feels like lightning builds are completely forced, the placement of Unrelenting Calamity, Flash of Lightning, as well as Echo Chamber requiring Power of the Maelstrom, guarantees that.

Lava surge is baked into resto now, not sure if its the same for ele or not.

Yep it is at lvl 12

Man you are doom saying way too much.

If you want to mindlessly spam LvB just go farseer and focus on SFD.

Tree is overall better for PvP, if anything I was done if it was yet another 2 years of mashing LvB no matter what the situation

There might be some fringe scenarios where these changes are superior, but none come to mind. Our instant cast mobility isn’t just gutted a bit, it’s gone. All hail hunters I guess, lords of being the only ranged class now that reliably doesn’t have to hard cast.

Flash of Lightning Elemental talent reduces all nature spells by 1 sec
What spells do these include? Elementals/Totems? Nature’s Swiftness/Farseer Ancestral Swiftness? Spiritwalker’s Grace? Please confirm/deny. Lasso/Thunderstorm? Stormkeeper?
