I just got dced from queue after being in it for 3 hours back to square one. some of us go to work blizzard. guess you guys dont
It is nice in theory but…clearly…not working. My server showed medium and guess what I am doing right now? Sitting in a queue.
Now don’t get me wrong, queues are to be expected (especially the first week). I assume everyone crying about them either has 0 idea how network’s work, or is just looking for something to complain about.
But if you are going to usher in a hotfix to “resolve” and issue or simplify it’s presentation, best to make it effective
Alas, I waited 15 years for this so a week or 2 of queues is just fine. Honestly, in a way…it is a good thing. Seeing the amount of impatience and frustration simply proves that half people wanting to hop on don’t have the patience for classic anyway and thus will be gone soon enough <3
It was done to hide how low all the retail server popoulations are. If they were based on capacity and not relative to each other, all the servers would show as low population.
Agreed, people keep telling everyone to jump on these new servers but the issue is that some of us have been planning for months, have several community guilds established with hundreds of players. Trying to move all of that to a new server with 0 guarantee that the new servers won’t be full up tomorrow is not an option. I’m ready for all of the tourist to go back to BFA to stop clogging the queues so I can reminisce of my early 20’s; I don’t have time for these queues lol. Work and family already limit my available wow time, then having to wait around for a 3 hour queue on top of that…
Thank you for this hotfix! I noticed all of the realms besides 2 were “Full” and I was like “damn what???”, good to know this is the newest metric.
This is pretty cool actually
Thank you so much! This is much more useful!
Thanks to the devs for helping us out here.
For me, it looks and “feels” like the optimal server size would be Medium, especially since it is significantly higher in population compared to the most populated server in 2006.
I really hope Blizz figures something out for all the high / full servers, as guilds are heavily invested and I don’t blame anyone not wanting to level up all over again.
If they do come up with a viable solution, they would also need to deal with potential name conflicts, etc, as again, no one would want to give up their name.
Could things have been done better? Yes, I think they could have. I think this is another lesson for Blizz on how they approach things in the future, as sometimes being too cautious and not having a good fallback plan can equally create or make things much worst.
how about killing multi boxer, army boxers and opening like 20-35 european servers?
every server is full now except for 4 which are medium 1 which is high, 3 of those 4 were added only today, hopefully with this label people will know which server is actually underpopulated or not and can attempt to roll on it
SO how much longer before you increase the cap for the servers… I get it, its launch time. And i know y’all said “you do but you don’t…” but i wanna play! Are you actively kicking people for staying on for extended periods of time yet? i know from all previous expansions players were using remote pc access to stay logged in to wow from their phones to avoid que times.
its noit the cap euro has no room , we have army boxers and impatient players…
Except this is exactly how live calculates population too.
Hey, almost every realm is full. You need more servers.
That’s what I meant. That’s how they hide server population in retail and tried to use the same algorithm on the classic servers
then why is my server labeled as medium? Yet ,here I sit in a queue.
Because there is still a limitation to the number of network connections the server can handle concurrently.
I think the concern isn’t so much with the lost progress now, but with knowing that server populations will drop off significantly in the future. If you re-roll on a new low pop server now because you can’t get on the one you want, what happens if it’s dead an a few months? Will you be stuck there or will Bliz offer character transfers at that point to consolidate the remaining population to fewer servers?
Amongold says hi…
bandaid upon bandaid. I guess software like megaservers is out of the question?
