New Realm Connections Inc

Alternate take: there are a bunch of smaller, alliance heavy RP servers out there that are much closer culturally to WRA.

If itā€™s anything like previous realm connections it probably wonā€™t be an issue. Youā€™d just have Azrelith-WyrmrestAccord and Azrelith-MoonGuard. Just functionally theyā€™d be on the same realm, even if the name suggests otherwise. Same auction house, same world space, etc.

I hope we get Cenarion Circle then! Thatā€™d be great news for you!

It would! Blizzardā€™s a bunch of jerks who donā€™t listen to me though. CC comes packaged with Sisters of Elune too, what a deal!

Probably merge all the smaller RP servers with WRA.

Thatā€™s the idea of their original post, yeah. Which is why I highly suspect we wonā€™t be merging with MG.

This seems to be an effort to populate lower population servers. With that in mindā€¦ MG and WRA are both often listed as High to Full populations. I canā€™t see them merging.

Tbh, Iā€™m having a hard time imagining them connecting any realms with full servers.

Last names. Gods above/belowā€¦ I wish we could just have last names!

Or a simple ā€™ or space.

I wish we had less servers than we do. Iā€™m probably in the minority, but having one giant RP realm is awesome, I like how bustling worlds are in FFXIV (with no phasing and less realms to pick from) and how free the naming is there because it works differently to WoWā€™s naming system.

The announcement showed me, though, that the large amount of servers we have probably wonā€™t be going away for a good while. My dreams of getting the name Maggie are crushed every single day. :stuck_out_tongue:

My biggest concern with a hypothetical Wyrmguard Merge or whatever would be that lots of people on Wyrmrest specifically avoid most kinds of server canon, usually.

If they were to ever merge, the differences would make things pretty weird and hard to work around.

Can someone explain to me what server canon is, exactly?

I have encountered characters that donā€™t fit canon on both sides, but Iā€™ve never heard of canon differing on each server?

I donā€™t see any reason for WrA or Moon Guard to merge with anything, weā€™re pretty much fine as we areā€¦ but itā€™ll be interesting if another booming RP community comes out of the ruins of tho bros and so forth!

Just wish these connections were a bit more uh, elegant? Since theyā€™re not full merges the meaningless server names that get attached to all names despite being on functionally the same server are sort of distracting and ugly. But thatā€™s a minor quibble.

Server canon is an ideal some people have - that everybody on an RP server have a shared headcanon. We have trouble even getting more than two guilds to agree on a shared headcanon. An actual long-term feasible consensus headcanon on a server with a reasonably large RP community will never happen.

Extending on this, basically Server Canon involves the idea that the experiences of core RP guilds and groups are canon, and if you do not acknowledge them, you are a bad RPer.

For example, for argumentā€™s sake letā€™s just say a human guild ICly resettled and rebuilt the town of Andorhal. They publicized this and advertised that people should come and move to Andorhal.

Now letā€™s say that someone comes along and says ā€œIsnā€™t that a Forsaken town?ā€, because the last known lore on Andorhal suggests itā€™s controlled by the Forsakenā€¦ They would not be conforming to server canon. Some may blacklist them for this.

I have no idea if this is the culture of MG today - I genuinely donā€™t know. But it was a bit of an issue a few years back, as I understand it. Basically people could get in trouble if they refused to conform to server canon. WRAā€™s been a lot more chill about it, by comparisonā€¦ but weā€™ve been accused of being elitist in strict adherence to lore as well.

Frankly I think both servers have changed over the years though, and arenā€™t so different now.

There was a time, about a decade ago, when the number of servers we have were necessary. Thorium Brotherhood for example was never a bustling server, but when I started playing it was always medium population density and the cities were always bursting with RP.

Went back years later andā€¦well, it was the same feeling I have went I go to Ironforge, remembering it as I do as from Vanilla Endgame content. Itā€™s fundamentally WRONG to see it so empty.

As for Server Canon, not something WrA really dabbles in. I think the only event that even qualifies for us would be the Trials post-Siege of Ogrimmar to give the various Korā€™kron characters (And Jesus there were a lot of them) closure.

I think the difference is we have server events but donā€™t like mandate people to accept them as canon, you know?

Iā€™m not gonna blacklist someone for never hearing of the Korā€™kron trials.

Cenarion Circle has some good people on it, I wouldnā€™t mind being merged with them.

I donā€™t mean to tell anyone their experience isnā€™t true or anything like that, Iā€™m just going to say what my experience has been.

I have never, ever seen anything like that on MG-- but I have only been playing there for the past 2 years, so make of that what you will.
I see guilds using towns and whatnot for guild meetings or headquarters, maybe a storyline or two, but I have absolutely never seen server canon in action as you have described. Remotely. I am grateful for that, too, because I feel like that would have really ruined WoW RP for me.
