New Realm Connections Inc

Potentially, but not necessarily. I’ve met a few RPers from the small RP servers over the years, usually in gameplay type things. A lot of them RP very occasionally, and some of them simply haven’t had the heart to transfer OFF the realm, remembering it in the glory days. In one way or another players on the smaller RP realms were attracted at least to the concept of RP, and so, when actually having the means to play on a populated RP server, they might embrace the opportunity and join us.

Okay but even in the most charitable case how many do you think would be on these realms vs. the substantial pve populations? I really don’t see the benefit. Linking the already connected ones together seems fine though.

That’s just it, the reason these mergers are occurring is because there ISN’T a substantial population. Of any kind, really. They’re trying to foster a community again.

So again, I think it’s very possible that a majority of these players will become RPers. And even if they don’t, there’s already plenty of non RPers on WRA, and largely they don’t make a fuss.

I mean, I guess you avoid the inns in Silvermoon City and Goldshire, but that’s about it for the main hubs of… that kind of RP on MG (or whichever server gets Connected to MG, if any).

Anywhere else tends to be A-OK for regular RP. (Well, assuming you’re not excessively out of the way, at least… Two alliance players got a bad surprise in one of the high up caves of Zuldazar one night, and let’s leave it at that. :stuck_out_tongue: )

I really don’t want to be merged with Moon Guard after dealing with multiple experiences there I can’t even talk about.

No thanks.
Some of us came here instead for a reason.

It makes me sad to see so many opposed to MG.

Ultimately some people are going to be thrilled and some people are going to be upset no matter what happens.

Personally I’ve always been on WRA. Actually started here as Alliance. I won’t lie, Goldshire scares me. xD But while I’ve never RPed Alliance on MG, I’ve heard from folks like Otielle that it’s not that different from WRA now. Back in the day MG used to be a big hub of server canon - right down to one Alliance guild claiming to rule over Lordaeron as the rightful monarchs. I have no idea if that is still the case, but that was one of the early things WRA players objected to, when discussing MG, when I was a new RPer in MoP.

Maybe things have changed, maybe they haven’t. Ultimately it doesn’t matter much. If the realms combine we’ll have a bigger RP population on both factions, and frankly that could turn out to be quite neat. But at the same time, I doubt it will happen. If anything, both MG and WRA will get attached to a smattering of smaller RP realms. Which will still be a positive change, I think.

Goldshire doesn’t effect you unless you go there yourself, as it’s quite well contained there.

My Horde characters find themselves on WrA, whereas my Alliance characters find themselves on MG. I’ve only been playing on RP servers since, well, BfA’s launch, and so my exposure hasn’t been remotely as long as some other folks I imagine.

I haven’t seen any crazy guilds like you mentioned there (thankfully) and have actually been a part of some very interesting events/storylines on MG; for example, when the Worgen revamp first came out, there was an event being held by a guild where people could have their characters bit by Worgen to become Worgen. It lasted a few hours and was absolutely thrilling, to say the least! I really enjoyed it.
There’s markets and restaurant events and… well, just a bunch of different stuff going on. Yeah, there’s some interesting characters there, but I’ve encountered my fair share of those on WrA too.

–But like you say, I agree with you 100% that it is unlikely WrA and MG will find themselves together, as their populations are both rather large.

Aaand just to prove that I do play on MG… I am Maggles-WrA.

When I first started WoW (Back in 2005) to around June 2008. I ran a Paladin back then by the name of Highstorm (as well as Vanndrel’s first incarnation as Starstalker).

EDIT: Got me all nostalgic and I actually went and looked up the Raiding Guild I was part of back then. THEY’RE STILL AROUND! Good for Impossibilium. Don’t recognize any names in the roster but that’s hardly unexpected.

We mained a Tank Druid before Tank Druids were ever really a thing.

WrA is home for me but I’ve played on Moon Guard too and I don’t see the big problem. I’ve always felt the whole server rivalry thing was overblown.

When you get it, you get it.

Not everybody has had bad experiences, but people pick servers for a reason and avoid others for a reason.

If I have to play on the same server where I was bullied to the point of wanting to end it, I’m not playing anymore.

The server cultures are different.
They should not be merged.

I would love for MG and WRA to merge. I think it would do more good than bad, it would certainly balance out the populations abit more. Name conflicts might be an issue though. :man_shrugging:

It’s not that I don’t like MG. It’s that MG really is a whole different culture in terms of a server community. MG is the Vegas server. It never sleeps and there’s a Anduin impersonator on every street. It’s a server that never sleeps and you can usually find groups that do other activities like PVE and PVP without much issue. But it also has a huge share of griefers and trolls as well as of realm tourists.

Hey, if that happens, I’d be able to singlehandedly make the “two Spiderman pointing at each other” meme.

(…well, not really, since both of them are on the same WoW account, and you can only log in one character per WoW account :frowning: )

Connected realms & merged realms are not necessarily the same thing. Trying to run an event & having people ask for invites to hop over from other realms just before or during an event can be a hassle. If being connected means that it will be easier for RPers on one realm to get to events on another then I’m all for it. Would give them the best of both worlds - a quiet spacious home server & simple access to big events. Removing a logistics problem for WrA event hosts at the same time.

There’s a reason I still have all my Alliance characters on Cenarion Circle.

I think that one’s first impression of something can leave a lasting gut reaction that’s really hard to shake.

My experience of briefly playing on Moon Guard Alliance involved stumbling on publicly-posting ERPers in a random barn while questing, and also receiving random invites and recruiting whispers from multiple guilds that described themselves as IC brothels or otherwise ERP-focused. This isn’t my kind of thing at all – and it was even more emotionally difficult for me at the time than it is now – and it bothered me enough that I abandoned my alts there in fairly short order and never got to the point of engaging very much with the greater RP community.

Given the differing impressions that you and others have of MG, I recognize that I probably had some really bad luck, and if I’d stayed longer, or been there at a different time, or been in a different place mentally, maybe I’d feel very differently, too. Part of me would like to give it another shot someday, because it sounds like there are many good things about Moon Guard and its community.

Basically – I don’t think you’re wrong, but different experiences happen, and they can leave a powerful gut reaction, even if the impressions behind that reaction are very incomplete.

Merge with MG wouldn’t be all bad. Alliance side of WRA is in need of population. Same for Horde MG.
