Don’t worry, pupper, I still want the fantasy in this game.
But technology has looooong been a part of WoW, and Artificer/Tinker won’t ruin that.
EDIT: A Mage can still bring down a city with magic. A Warrior is still a fighter of near godly physical strength and perfection. A Warlock can still summon demons of unimaginable power from the nether.
They were literally a hero character in WC3 though. They’ve been around a looooong time. There’s more lore for them then there was for Monks, but here we are with kung fu pandas.
Here’s the thing.
Back in Vanilla classes used all the stats because all of the stats did different things.
If this was still Vanilla. I’d agree completely. Because back in Vanilla intellect gave you 2 things. Maximum mana and spell critical hit chance.
This isn’t the case anymore though.
In modern wow your classes’ primary stat functions just like Diablo 3. Where it is simply a multiplier on how effective your abilities are.
This is why I say that Tinkers conform with modern class design.
In vanilla a class like this would’ve been impossible. But the game has grown a lot since then. And can allow for something like this mechanically.
I don’t think Tinkers would work being shoved onto existing classes. Every class has a very clear theme now ever since legion, and none of those classes have a theme of “technology”
There is plenty of hero characters that are not character classes and likely won’t be. They might make something else and put bits of pieces of the tinker in it though. Preferably something without the mechsuit part. Thats too far.
Keep in mind Dexterworgen.
I don’t think the mech should be the entire class.
I only think it should be the Tank spec because that conforms with what we’ve seen NPC’s do already.
We’ve also seen tinkers fight with guns and explosives from a range,
And heal!
I can cope with most of the low tech stuff but Mechsuits is pretty much where the line is drawn. It’s too splashy and vehicle combat just doesn’t work to well with the game. It’s okay in specific scenarios but as a class ability I think that should never be a thing.
My gnome and goblin characters would tend to disagree. While they are races rather than classes, technology is their theme. It is even a part of engineering specialities already.
As I said, I’m not against the idea but I think it could be used to spruce up what we already have, and I suspect a lot of stuff would be ripped from the Engineering proff which would not make me happy.
I mentioned this in one of there other threads on this topic so I tend to agree. I feel like they should be working on making the professions better again, not weakening them. Shadowlands is finally showing a minor attempt to improving professions why undo that by adding classes that will draw away from a profession.
Then your favorite race (and one of my favorite races) are limited to classes that don’t represent what they’re capable of.
Also. Engineering in it’s current state doesn’t provide any of the significant tinker abilities.
I sincerely doubt that Engineers will lose Their useless little gimmicks like portable transmog.
Shadowlands really hasn’t done much for Engineers…
It doesn’t matter anyways. They don’t really have any tinker abilities.
Just some 5 minute cooldown bombs
Engineer and tinker is intertwined with eachother. It would harm potential design space is a major and valid concern. The two share commonalities which when crossed the Class would have to trump the profession.
