New Ranged Class? Tinkers!

Most people seem to operate under the belief that the next class should be ranged.

I can see why: every class they have provided to this game after release have been strictly melee in their dps specs.

The problem, in my opinion, stems from the fact that most of the Ranged DPS specs in the game, are stuck on classes that primarily or exclusively deal ranged DPS. (See Warlocks, Mages, Priests, Hunters, ETC. all of them either only deal damage from a range; or mostly from a range)

As a Solution: I propose a Tinker class.
A class that uses Technology and Machinery first and foremost over Magic or Strength.

We’ve frequently seen Tinkers across Azeroth fighting as ranged damage dealers. Usually with Guns, Turrets, and Explosives.

As such Tinkers would be a ranged, intelligence class, that uses guns, bows, and crossbows for DPS:
They would also have a Tank Spec, in which they fight in a Mech suit, just like Gazlowe or Gelbin.
Finally, they would have a Healer specialization, that specializes in healing grenades and heal-bots.

This class would solve a few problems that are in high demand.

  • it would provide a new Ranged Damage dealer, that isn’t limited to pre existing classes
  • it would provide a class that can preform all roles in a dungeon, with a ranged DPS spec. Something that is unique to Druid at the moment
  • it would provide a Class that tanks with Intelligence. Since we already have strength and agility
  • it would provide another class that can use Ranged weapons. Which are absurdly unique to Hunter.

All of these things would help better fill out the Class roster, while keeping the game distinctly WarCraft themed. I hope you guys take time to consider how this class fits into the class roster and into the universe!

Actually Blizzard already thought of it for me. :stuck_out_tongue: all the way back in Warcraft 3.

I just want it in WoW.

Or we can keep the game more fantasy then sci fi. We really don’t need mech suits everywhere. That’d ruin the aesthetics of the game.

Besides. Before that we’ve had multiple expansions with space ships and different planets.

WarCraft definitely has Sci-Fi in its roots.
And also, keep in mind I’m not asking for Anime mechs here. I’m speaking of the grungy, low-tech looking mechs that goblins and gnomes have. Like Shredders or the G.M.O.D

This dates all the way back to Warcraft 3. Are you gonna tell me Warcraft 3 had the aesthetics wrong? Because it’s what this game’s aesthetics are based on

This would work thematically if they added it during mechagon but I don’t see how it could tie into shadowlands at all.

Necromancer was the best choice for a shadowlands class tie in but they chose to do covenants instead of a new class. Which kinda sucks as I don’t think there is going to be another plot point that allows necromancers to be a new class for awhile.

Yeah what theme is that xpac going to be? Mechagon is already done and dusted and I don’t think the team is going to work on an engineering themed expansion.

Well shadowlands isn’t getting a new class. We know that

I don’t expect tinkers In shadowlands. But I also don’t expect anything in Shadowlands. I’m expecting them in the future. Whenever that may be

We can’t just kill all the scourge there is a never ending supply of them.

Shadowlands isn’t getting a new class, so not sure how that’s relevant. Any speculations for new classes at this point will obviously be for the next expansion.

Tinker NPCs are everywhere in the game world. It actually doesn’t make sense that PCs don’t exist at this point. You see more Tinker themed NPCs in the game than you do for many of the existing classes.

Ya, those Tinker NPCs are engineers and anybody can be one.

What scourge event? That isn’t the all powerful force that makes them a even greater threat. That is just a gnat nibbling on your toe.

Yup. That’s all the scourge is now.

Being an engineer does not change any part of your class. You don’t suddenly have a rotation that revolves around using anything that would be a feature of an engineer themed class. A paladin with engineering is still just a paladin who’s abilities are based on channeling The Light.

This is really an excellent point. I’ve seen more goblins with guns and mechs, launching missiles and deploying mines than I have seen Monks or Shamans in BFA

It’s pretty obvious Tinkers and Engineers are quite different. Engineers build toys, out of combat utilities and gizmos in modern WoW. Tinkers would fight in mech suits, build turrets and launch missiles.

This is like saying a Mage and an Enchanter are the same.

Similar themes sure. But wildly different execution

Literally is not relevent to what I was responding to. The statement is there is NPCs that are tinker themed, and I was correcting that statement. They are Engineer themed. With the exception of the rare tinker like the head gnome dude.

Was correcting this statement. It’s false, those are mostly engineers. Tinkers are rare.

But that’s simply incorrect. Those NPCs are not warriors or whatever with a touch of engineering flair. They are 100% Tinker NPCs with their entire aesthetic and abilities being based on that. So no, not anybody can be one, because that class doesn’t exist.

Dude not all the NPCs in the game have a class. There is tons of blacksmith or miner npcs that are not Warriors. What are you smoking.

As a note, NPCs could always do things we couldn’t.
