New race/class combinations in Shadowlands

I would like to see more options open up for demon hunter

Alliance:

Void Elves (could use slightly similar models to the blood elf demon hunter/ demon form)

Draenei (could use more eredar style models like the ones on Argus/Antorus)

Horde:

Nightborne (could share slightly similar models to night elven demon hunter/demon form models)

Zandalari (in lore they are called demonicas, they seem very similar except without the eye blindness)

Lore doesn’t matter anymore because we have playable punk rocker corpse barbies with hot pink hair. So we can play any combination we want.

Honestly? Can’t really argue with that.

I had one too. It dropped off the history before I could copy it. Here is it pretty much summed up.

Alliance

Human

Druid: So all the Gilneans that were druids got turned into worgen? I doubt it. And Kul Tiran and worgens won’t teach regular humans to be druids? Doubt that too. Let’s be straight. Humans are a popular universal race. Like orcs. Give them as much as you can.

Nightelf

Paladin: They have been priests from day one. There are canonized NE paladins. The priests are adding to their lore with all the Elune stuff, adding paladins is a next logical step.

Gnome

None, they have great options that can be better balanced out with mechagnomes.

Draeni

Demon hunter: What happened to all the eradar draeni? Were there none that want to come back and use their demonic powers to redeem themselves? Keep in mind Velen’s son died BEFORE the device that reincarnated demons was destroyed. Perfect story line opportunity to bring him back in a way that isn’t so tragic.

Worgen

Paladin: Gil’neans were in the second war. Second war was fought with paladins in place of knights. Ergo worgen have paladins and always should have.

Monk: Suggest it be an Exile’s reach only option to fit with lore. This way all races can have monks which seems to be Blizzard’s intent.

Void elf

Paladin: If void elves can have holy priests, and lightforged draeni can have shadow priests, there is noting to say a void elf could not be a paladin.

Demon hunter: no brainier option. Anyone who would infuse themselves with void wouldn’t bat an eye to do some fel, and vice versa.

Lightforged draeni

Rogue: They have been fighting the burning legion for centuries. That they wouldn’t have developed a covert ops division is not justifiable.

Monk: No brainier. Should have been there already.

Dwarves

None. Excellent selection complemented by dark iron.

Dark iron Dwarves

None. They have almost all options anyway.

Kul tiran

Paladin: Same as worgen, significant participants of the second war. Actually more significant than Gil’neans. The warcraft 2 expansion pack was literally named for their navy.

Mechagnome

Paladin: Clearly should be an option. Why would a priest physically upgrade themselves and not try to become the fighter priests that are paladins?

Shaman: A goblin was brought to mechagnomes as part of the alliance zone intro quest. That they would totally ignore how goblins have used tech to become shamans is not conceivable.

Horde

Orc

Demon hunter: This one is actually great because it dips into the lore of the original non-night elf demon hunter: Grom Hellscream! Yes, he used his demonic enhanced strength to kill Mannoroth. As a bonus this adds 2 handers as a potential weapon that some have wanted.

Nightborne

Demon hunter: There are literally nightborne consuming fel as part of the storyline. Did they all just get fed to the animals in the zoo after the war was won? Or do they reintegrate into nightborne society?

Druid: One of the bosses in Nighthold is a druid. Clearly they had them.

Undead

Paladin: There are holy undead priests. With Calia Menethil, there are holy undead. Paladins are the next logical step.

Demon hunter: If anyone hates demons more than the elves, and would do anything for revenge, it has to be the undead.

Highmountain tauren

While regular tauren have a good selection, the highmountain got the shaft with simply classic WoW options. This should be rectified.

Rogue: Logical option for a hunter themed race.

Demon hunter: Something needs to be done with the now fel infused blood totem.

Warlock: Same as above. Blood totem casters need to be reintegrated somehow.

Mage: Something different. But also with Dalaran and Suramar now right next door, if they aren’t being trained as mages they are just negligent for not taking advantage of the opportunities that brings.

Tauren

Good how they are. Any new options should be given to highmountain to give variety and provide a tangible difference between the 2 races.

Mag’har orc

Paladin: How anyone thought an orc would be okay just being a cloth priest with a stick, and not a plate priest with an axe, is beyond me.

Troll

They already have nearly every class option.

Zandalari troll

Same as troll. One having paladins while the other has warlocks is a great way to differentiate the 2.

Blood elf

Druid: Another obivous one. That the high elves were so in tune with nature, but insisted on no druidism because Stormrage was a butt to them, is kinda silly.

Vulpera

Good selection of classes already

Goblin

Monk: Another to uniquely add with Exiles reach to keep it in line with starting zone lore.

Neutral

Pandaren

Druid: I recalled a developer saying they wanted pandaren druids, but a bear that turns into a bear just didn’t make sense. Zandalari solved this issue with their unique druid forms. Pandas turning into turtles or maybe even an ox would solve this problem.

Considering one of the major rifts and differences between Blood Elves and Night Elves is druidism, that the Blood Elves shunned and moved to the other side of Azeroth to get away from, it shouldn’t be a surprise.

That’s not what happened. They chose Arcane over Nature. I wish I had a screenshot of the Blood Elf draining a manaworm to death from the BC cinematic to post. Their whole society is designed to be the antithesis of druidism and Night Elves.

I disagree. I like restrictions gives some distinction between the races… homogenization makes it boring imo.

From the War 2 manual:

The reclusive Elves of Silvermoon ventured forth from the shadowy forests of Quel’thalas to offer their services to the Alliance. Their magiks, so closely tied to the forces of the earth, had shown evidence that the Orcs had been defiling the very lands of Lordaeron as part of their sinister plans.

Sounds like they found out about the orcs through a form of druidism, perhaps even shamanism. :sunglasses:

This is of course totally forgetting about the Botanica and the druidism clearly practiced there.

This was retconned.

Belf Botanist are not Druids. They use arcane magic to warp nature.

An announcement that a race can be a class isn’t as powerful as it once was, it’s just not thrilling - partly because we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel and also because they’re basically a skin - nothing truly inventive, not really that fun.

Even if races can be druids and therefore get new druid forms or shaman and therefore get new totems, you know why those classes are exciting.?

It’s because they get unique, race-specific and culture-appropriate visuals and assets that identify with their culture.

So that’s what we need, race and culture identify in our spells and ability visual and animations - for all races and classes! until then, race/class combinations are underwhelming and copy/paste. They lack vision, heart, engagement, etc. They lack. lack lack lack.

There’s an emptiness to race/class combos that can only be rejuvenated and invigorated by our people’s arts and identity reflecting in their spells and abilities and animations. Not to mention immersion. As of now we all cast the same exact stuff no matter the culture. Shame

Nightborne Druids! Think of the manasaber feral forms! Also it fits nicely with the lore

They are only going to dole out the bare minimum when it comes to new combinations because they can use it as a feature of a new expansion in the future. I was disappointed they didn’t make a new class for Shadowlands.

Botanist and druid are not the same. One requires a Wild God to teach the practice and lend its power. The other is just a mad scientist. There’s a reason we killed them.

Also, forces of the earth is shamanism. Another thing that’s not druidism.

All I have to say if Pandas and LF Draenei can be DKs then all races should have access to all classes at this point.

Um I have to say no to Worgen , Void Elf, and Forsaken paladins (though I would kill to have one) and Draenei Druids. They make no sense to me.

I would love to have Blood Elf druid and they already exist in the game.

Well if Blood Elf paladins got their power by corrupting the light then it is very possible for Blood Elf druids get their power by twisting the forces of nature.

Blood elf druids are very possible and should exist. They should have existed long before Tauren paladins.

They spent all this time and effort into building separate and unique cultures with their unique histories, circumstances, landscapes, traditions, beliefs, morals, ideals, heritages, etc, then do nothing with them. We all use the same stuff! It’s time for our race’s version of each class to come through.

Think how thematically awesome our races would feel if, for tranquility;

a highmountain tauren raising a single eagle feather into the air or blowing a melody through a carved pine flute, to call down a brisk whirlwind of fragrant mountain winds from the their forested homeland, refreshing and inspiriting the falling

vs

a night elf calling the calm and of night, a serene spot of shade made restful by little lanterns or starlit grass, to the wild yet nurturing woodland tunes of crickets chirping and distant cats growling, or to a soothing windchime or to the dreamy plucks of a harp.

And for effloresces;

perhaps a mulgore tauren tosses a seed at the target location and then keels prayfully, gently beats a drum or plays a flute as wheat or a small meadow or patch of spring/autumn grasses grow upward, glittering in the sunny day

whereas

perhaps a night elf places a little lantern or seed on the ground from which a patch of woodland grass and mushrooms grow, or calls an owl from the shade who softly hoots overhead encircling the falling from above who are greeted by a moonbeam which heals those within it.

Think how thematically awesome our races would feel and how connected we’d be to them should their aesthetics prove that their spells and abilities are truly an art honed among their people, from within their culture.

Being thoughtful and crafting a cultures’ unique version of their art will make our races and their classes especially meaningful.

You mean like goblin shamans use tech? Yeah I considered that. I was going to say it but I didn’t want to complicate things. The form of druidism should reflect the race, just like Kul Tiran’s druid forms do.

I guess it comes down to how do you want to split the difference between the sunwell and the well of eternity?

Well, KT still has Wild Gods and still communes with nature. Everyone here is suggesting BE should become druids by twisting nature, the opposite of what druids do.

How about instead we all just take a giant dump on the lore, light it on fire, and call it a day? That’s basically what this thread is asking for.

So should goblins be shamans then or no? From your point of view. Please explain. Because the race that revels in exploiting natural resources in the most destructive way possible being shamans is more lorebreaking than anything I’ve seen suggested here.

I find people like you amusing, because the conversation usually ends up in a circular argument like this:

It doesn’t follow lore.

Okay… but then what about this example from the game?

That has to exist because of game mechanics, but doesn’t follow canonized lore.

Okay, well why can’t the thing exist just in the game too then?

It doesn’t follow lore.

I don’t really think they need to add any more. But if they do, I have always wanted to play a Night Elf Warlock.
