dont forget kalec (kalecgos’ half elf avatar), who i dont think looked like an elf at all. but he sure had pretty hair . i dont think blizzard had figured out what a half elf should look like at that point, because kalec’s half elf was introduced in tbc, the same expac where we see the blood elf version of arator, who is also supposed to be a half elf.
someone painted this lovely version of kalec. much more elfin.

(Statement): Another thread topic led me to think of racials for Half-Elves, based around the concept of them earning respect/admiration. I figured I would post that here.

(Commentary): I’m not a Math expert or anything. Let the numbers be an indication of the idea of how it can work, rather than how it should be.

If Blizzard did something to entice all of the high end players and guilds from the horde, they would be in the same shape, and i guarantee they would not be telling each other, “we just need to git gud!”

oh oh, give the half elves a new class - the bard class, exclusive to them initially, and make it op so it convinces the alliance guilds that transferred horde, to come back to alliance. then let other races have access to bard also, once the factions have auto corrected. but they gotta be awesome and beautiful/handsome half elves, with the option to customize them with caucasian, asian or african faces/hair/skin

an overview of an old bard class from everquest, to give you some idea of what a bard might be able to do.

in everquest, the bard learned one instrument at a time as they levelled up. they also learned songs as they levelled that required specific instruments to play.

for example, at level 5, they learned to sing a song that let them run faster which required a percussion instrument. as time went on they got better and better at the song and got better and better percussion instruments, till they were running very fast. as an added perk, they would learn a song where their whole group could run fast also. the better the song, instrument and level, the more dramatic the special fx surrounding the bard. it was really quite a show.

they could play the percussion, drums, mandolins, lutes, horns, flutes, even seashells, and each one had a different song list and could be twisted up to 4 or 5 times, meaning you could play 4 or 5 songs at nearly the same time and swap to the correct instruments as you sang a few notes of each one. this would be too much for wow.

they also learned songs that would heal themselves or their group over time, buff the attack speed of themselves or their group, put several mobs into a sort of enchanted sleep, even mind control a mob to be their temporary pet, increase the mana regen of their group, and buff the strength, agi, etc, of their group, even slow the movement speed of mobs, with no limit to how many could be slowed, make their group invisible, give their group underwater breathing, give their group the ability to levitate, and sing a song that applied a dot to unlimited amounts of mobs.

these guys/gals were so overpowered in the first expac of the game, they could pull huge groups of mobs, even entire zones, and over the course of a half hour, aoe dot/slow them till they died.

to be clear, this is too overpowered and complex for wow. but there’s some golden nuggets in there.

Given the two bands in game I suspect folk would riot if bard was only half elf.

correct. but they’d only riot till it was available to them too. i mean alliance pallies never got seal of blood that belf pallies were born with in tbc. hehe

That’s a little different than locking a class to one side.

Even back in vanilla there was a class for each side locked to that side.

Further most “bards” currently shown in game are horde races. I think there’s one dwarf representing the Alliance.

Those are Blood Elves, friend. They are not the same, in fact that’s like saying “Void Elves already exist, they are on the Horde!” because they come from Blood Elves. They are two different races weather you like it or not.

On that topic, since I am sure someone will mention it, Ion Hazzikostas does not know what he is talking about when it comes to lore like this. Even Chris Metzen, THE Lore guy, has been wrong about the lore before as seen at Blizzcon with the Readshirt Guy and the Council of Three Hammers. Even Christie Golden, who is currently full time part of the story team for WoW, has made errors such as depicting Worgen with tails*. If Metzen and Golden can get it wrong you better believe that Hazzikostas, the spreadsheet guy, can get it wrong and absolutely got it wrong.

No, no they really do not. Blood Elves and High Elves have two entirely different philosophies, especially noted in how Blood Elves steal/absorb magic as well as tamper with Fel Magics on top of physical differences.

*Though, even though its wrong, I think Worgen’s with tails could be cool and should be an option. My two copper.

the sole meaningful difference between a blood elf(high elves) and an actual alliance high elf is political allegiance. please do not quote me again if you are going to be disingenuous with your arguments and imply blood elves are still draining mana from vermin to sate addiction and relying on fel magic to power and hold their city together after the sunwell was restored

Oh good the “Devs and writers mess up lore trivia therefore they don’t know the basic world building things.” That’s like saying that because someone messed up the exact date a battle took place that they can’t tell you the place it has in the war.

This is the number one thing for me Byucknah! I love my BE’s, but I love the HE’s for everything BE’s aren’t, tend to be polar opposite personalities as a culture and I value that greatly!
