New Race for the Alliance: HALF ELVES!

They’d be too OP, everyone would play one, and as soon as one gets into a fight, every single other person playing one in that zone would swarm over to help out

doesnt the horde want to be the edgy anti-tolkien faction though? and i thought it was based on class, not race, in shadowlands?

I want to be the warcraft Horde. A group of kind of misfit races that banded together to survive. Orcs who were used in the past and are trying to make their way in a better fashion than they had when they came to this world. Trolls who were forced out of their home. Tauren who were mostly peaceful and recovering from being killed off by hostile neighbors. And undead who fought off their oppressor and were abandoned by their kin, and while probably the darkest of the horde races, not purely evil.

Frankly, I think BFA was as much an insult to the horde (while not using slurs) as Corpsegrinder’s idiocy at Blizzcon was to the Alliance. It was demoralizing, it felt horrible. It felt like the story was written to tell me, not my character, but me, that I was a bad person for the choice I made on the character creation screen. And I am still waiting for the apology from Blizzard for that insult.

I’m not saying that means the alliance story was good or anything. Just that after an expansion where we were left out and major chunks of the lore of some of our races were outright handed over to the Alliance, that after a cool intro cinematic teasing the expansion all about faction pride we were blasted with a firehose of shame from start to finish. And it felt personal.

And you know, the whole “Horde just wants to be edgelords” is like the mirror of “Alliance is a bunch of kids”

yeah you’re between a rock and a hard place. many of your faction liked the idea of genociding the night elves. they’re in full on tribal mode. and see anyone who is ashamed of their victories as carebears, a theme the horde is not exactly known for. but i agree. they werent supposed to be drinking invisible green coolaid, again. i suppose the writers have some reason for this.

I don’t know if I’d say many.

Eh, frankly the lore for a while has had the impression that they’re writing it with the assumption that the players paying attention are Alliance. Maybe it ties in with the way just about all the lore-ish youtubers seem to be Alliance.

Actually, I accidentally posted it to the wrong thread. It’s what I get for trying to eat dinner, watch an episode of Law and Order: SVU, debug a protobuf, and crawl forums at the same time.

You’re just lucky you didn’t get a random page of documentation or something equally weird.

I figured out my mistake but forgot to delete this one.

Fair enough.

i have a theory that either that isnt sylvannas or she’s playing a much bigger game of chess that will only make sense once we get the shadowlands expac nearly finished.

I dunno, it could, but right now that seems like it would backfire in a big way. And frankly one of the writers seems to have it in for her.

i think some other countries have it in for her. sexy female leader dominating men, only works in western nations haha

Well whatever the reason this last expansion felt like a butchering of her character. I mean, I never really liked her that much, and didn’t like Forsaken quests in general, but I liked her when she was presented as being protective of her people even if it was in a messed up way.

Alright, but… hear me out here…

Three-Quarter Elves!

Why stop at half when you could have Three-Quarters of Elf?

On a serious note…

High Elf fans are not looking for “compromise” in this regard… That would be like adding Mok’nathal and saying “That’s the compromise for Ogres!”

High Elf Fans want High Elves, its really that simple. Not half Human half Elves.

That is not to say that there are not people who want Half Elves, and to them I hope they someday get their wish. However, again, just as how Void Elves are not High Elves then Half Elves are not High Elves.

Out of every race, out of literally every race that has been requested I have never seen such a collection of people who are so adamant on making sure that High Elf fans never get what they desire. Its honestly just weird to me and I just don’t get it even though I HATE Elves

Hope the High Elf fans get what they want some day.

blink blink :sparkling_heart:

i think the half elf could work but thered need to be some …erm
retconning, and the caucasian model would have to somewhat resemble high elves but not be pure high elf. the reason it would work is these are the people of the silver covenant. these are the ones we’ve been doing quests for, fighting alongside all this time. they just hadnt been given their half elven models yet.

not only THAT! we could tap into the new african and asian models coming in shadowlands, and have our first asian and african half elves who wouldnt have to look like high elves. they’d only have to look like half elves. like this lovely half elf shaman lady

Not at all true. Over a year ago I kicked off a “Half Elves, a reasonable compromise?” thread supporting at least exploring the idea…so I’m not in this thread attempting to argue it into non-existence.

But; when you dump things out as fact without any evidence at all…like this…

and…

and you offer your answers to the problem as the only answers…like this…

…then yes of course someone should be saying “where are the facts, what’s your evidence?” And if no one else is going to then I certainly am. Like your unwarranted and insulting “paraphrase” of things someone else didn’t say - it needs to be called out.

It may seem unnecessary to you, and apparently does, but phrasing things like “I think xxxx is the case, because (insert something verifiable by someone other than yourself) and I think YYYYY is the way out of it because ZZZZ” instead of “This is why XXXX and this is the only way out of it.” would make it a lot less likely that someone’s going to look at the posts and just decide they need to respond directly.

I used to enjoy - even if I didn’t agree with them - your very out of the box ideas, and some gave me a chuckle. That’s not what you’ve been doing lately, you’ve become more strident and if it bothers you that I’m point out these are not fact or evidence based statements then I don’t know what to tell you.

Well, I’ve been both an Alliance main player and against the idea for years…and publicly open about my reasoning going back to the old forums. At the same time I’ve often defended their absolute right to ask, and keep right on asking, for what they want. For me it’s several things but primarily a love for the faction environment that is a core aspect of the Warcraft IP and the belief that cloning races across the faction boundary dilutes it.

Yes, that means I thought Pandarens were not a good idea (but at least they have the virtue of a reasonably well-composed rationale and were implemented as a dual-faction race going for them), I think Nightborne shouldn’t have gone in as close to Night Elves as they did, and that Void Elves are only a good idea because they are so physically differentiated from their non-GMO Thalassian counterparts on the Horde.

So that’s my “why”. I’m civil about it, I respect and have defended the right of people who want it to happen to keep right on asking for it, but I’m opposed and my opinion on the subject isn’t likely to change. If they arrive some day it won’t be the end of the world, and part of me that’s made friends on the other side of the aisle will be happy for them…but I’ll still consider it a mistake.

Cheers

Its rather disconcerting when you chase after me to sealion

That’s good and all, but high elves are on the Horde. Maybe they should stop asking for a Horde race. You can request it, sure, but you won’t get it. The devs have many opportunities, and each time they’ve turned away from the notion.

That’s a dang shame, but guess what? I like worgen. So if I want to enjoy my worgen, I go alliance. That is part of game design. Choice becomes important.
