yeah i know. but assuming it because it solves the issue of the alliance wanting playable quel’dorei without using the thalassian model again
Does it even matter at this point?
Alliance are done.
gads i know i’ve been keeping tabs on it since legion. hope you’re wrong
I think Half Elves are better off trying to be their own thing rather than clinging to something they are not. They’re more accepted in human civilizations (going off the RPG here), whereas most High/Blood Elves see them as bastards. No need to cling to a culture that shames your very existence
i was basing it on the reveal provided by elisande, wherein she called the alliance quel’dorei a bunch of half elves, essentially.
Well, if what you’re looking for requires a unique model, I don’t know how well it would work with the allied race system. The only one we got that was unique was the Kul Tiran, right? And they were front and center of the main story.
How would blizz make halflings front and center?
I guess it could be used as a some sort of reveal that they, are in fact, not purely High Elves. That would suggest that Half Elves are easily mistaken as High Elves though, unless they retcon them and change their models
Half Elves give us a logical explanation as to why they would a different model, as they’re supposed to be instantly recognizable as such. I don’t like the idea of them being “revealed” as that because it undermines the idea that they’re easy to tell apart from each other
I think Elisande’s comment was a jab towards Vereesa for having Half Elven children, or towards High Elves in general for commonly having human spouses (speculation). I don’t think it’s meant to imply anything physically about the High Elves that were present at that time
i’d want them to be a core race so the new player has a pretty/handsome elf to choose alliance side from the starting screen. allied races are hidden on the starting screen and are easily missed entirely if the player buys the special edition which has a free character boost in it, that boosts them right past legion where our first allied races are, and past bfa where the rest of our allied races are.
i think its a reveal that alliance high elves are really mostly half elves. the thing is, it wouldnt make a difference to the actual quality of the race, as they would still have the alliance quel’dorei’s lore and it would provide a believable explanation for why the queldorei of dalaran wouldnt follow kael’thas to outlands as they had half elven families of their own right there, and they’d have to abandon them to follow kael’thas.
understand that an alliance quel’dorei could be seventy five percent high elf, look similar but not identical to a high elf, and still not actually be a high elf.
While it sounds like a fun idea, surely you can admit that it sounds like a pretty substantially heavy request for blizzard to make them a core race, right? You’d have to;
Give them a half elf city
Give them a half elf starting zone
Give them a half elf narrative
I’m not saying anything is impossible, but in the grand scheme of things, assuming you aren’t just wishful thinking, surely you see how difficult this would be to get blizzard to do, right? I didn’t even bout for Quel’dorei until Allied Races became a thing strictly because I never saw Blizzard fulfilling those categories for a group of people that are arguably larger than half elf populations.
I agree. Core races have a pattern, a standard if you will. Allied races are just unlockable player options created by reusing existing assets and identities
they’d just need an instanced dalaran with portal to sw mage tower or even portal to the human starting area. similar treatment they gave void elves. and since they’re already in game and have their standard and whatnot, those dont have to be made from scratch. they’d need their own racial mount, like an unicorn, but they do that for allied races. they wouldnt have to do the rep grind quests to unlock them, so that saves time/resources. biggest time sink would be making the models with their animations
maybe the first 5 levels are quests in the instanced dalaran, then you’d have to go to elwynn to continue, like humans do
Eh, I don’t think Half Elves would need to be a core race, but I don’t see a problem if they were.
Like, if they were a core race, then the MokNathal should be as well, so in both cases their narrative could revolve around settling down on wherever the new expansion is taking place, no?
If we have two “nomadic” races introduced, they could serve as counter points.
And again, they could also just be Allied Races
talen, can you pretty please paint some half elves with shorter ears/eyebrows but still elven ears/eyebrows? give them some dynamic poses, like you’re trying to sell the idea to a really picky game director
I mean I did have some half elven concepts from before:

I didn’t get to add the ear and eyebrow length variation that I wanted, but basically these have an ear length between human and elf average.
beautiful as always.
