It’d dilute the playable Thalassian choices for sure. The idea behind Half Elves is that they’d be our version of the classic WC2 High Elves, only they have a good excuse to be physically different from Blood Elves
Which is fine. My point being that if you add all three, then you have the problem of “fighting over the same themes”
I agree. Just saying that were Half Elves to be added there’d be no point to consider High Elves anymore. Adding both High and Half Elves would be redundant
the blood elves use red and gold with a phoenix as their logo.
the void elves use purple and gold with…erm… what is their logo? the void?
/shakes head
the half elves would use green/blue with gold and their logo would be a golden unicorn (a mix of the gold lion of humans and the white unicorn of the high elves)
not the same themes at all
Themes =/= colors and what their logo is
Theme is the idea that they all are fighting over the “high elf” aesthetic an archtype in some way.
but half elves dont fight over the aesthetic since 1) they have many human features like full beards, larger muscles, more boom-boom, 2) their elven ears and eyebrows would be considerably shorter and would look more like an traditional elf instead of a caricature of an elf. dunno if you noticed but our current elves could scratch their own backs with their ears and braid their hair with their eyebrows
Are they part high-elven?:
If so, then they have to compete for the high elf aesthetic, because after Suramar we know that the curse of the queldorei is going to lead to the establishment of half-breeds and the eventual mixture into humanity. Meaning that the half-elf race is an expansion on the high elf aesthetic, especially since we know that they would probably have the same culture as the quel’dorei due to parentage.
Just saying “they’ll look different” doesnt mean they wouldnt suddenly not be apart of high elven culture.
i guess i dont understand the issue. the more you explan it, the less sense it makes. blood elves and void elves already have clearly defined aesthetics. that means half elves can have their own clearly defined aesthetic. whats to fight over
The issue is that when someone posed having both high elves and half elves be playable, it makes the issue of theme crowding.
oh i see. you mean they want blood/void/high/half ? half dont fit in that category. half are isolated from that category in the same way night elves are. for one, they wouldnt use the thalasian model, presumably
Think of it like this:
We already have void elves, they serve as a race that comes from the Thalassian lineage that is a force of exiles kicked out for not following the regime of the blood elves. Essentially them being a people in exile, gives them access to the high elf aesthetic of being part of that marginalized group of Thalassian elves that pledge to the Alliance.
Half elves would serve as this extension of the Thalassian story as they become integrated with human society. While still having access to the lineage and the culture, the half elves would push into the blending with human culture.
The issue is: where can high elves go that doesnt fight over theme with either void or half elves? Void elves serve their own realm, but you cant differentiate high elves from half elves by them focusing another means and culture since that is the void elf idea.
You cant have high elves remain the same because half elves would take up those same realms of aesthetics and presence (Church of the Holy Light, magic usage).
oh this would also be a cool dance for half elves. haha. its rather comical
i see what you mean . well the lore goes thusly . for the last 3000 years of azerothian elven societies, a sector of high elves has lived with and mated with humans. as a result, these are the ones who wouldnt follow kael’thas to outlands as they would have to abandon their own human families / friends to do so. many of these were isolated to dalaran and make up most of the silver covenant. they aren’t all entirely high elf or entirely human, they are variants. some might look more high elven, some might look more human, but the clearly high elven are the royals like veressa and alleria, who’ve only recently begun marrying into human society.
you need a lot of citations for this claim
no i dont. i just made it up. i’m citing myself. that would have to be the lore for it to make sense.
oh yeah. keep forgetting their blood elves.
half elves using the logo of their ancestors, the unicorn, but in the gold of the stormwind lion… or maybe something kirin tor related, since their connection to humans really blossomed with the teaching of the mages.
enough. elves. already.
fur the horde
haha.
if they let us have access to the asian and african skin/hair/faces that humans are getting, our half elves would be cooler than your full blooded elves.
/waves her arms around
imagine if you will, a pretty asian female half elf, with a long pink braid down her back, and brilliant blue eyes. i mean, we.win.game.over.see.you.in.wow2.
Well since we’re all just coming up with ideas for blizz to consider, there’s no way to know if it will happen, but if it does none of us know what it would look like let alone what options they would have.
So…sorry but we can’t say ‘they wouldn’t or would’.
