New Overwatch lore [Spoilers]

I think you should respect people’s lived experience and not force a term they’re not comfortable on them if they don’t want it. I say this as a person who identifies as queer myself. History be damned. I mean…obviously I’m not going to tell one person how to identify, but what I’m also not going to do is not comment on the fact that yeah, queer is a term loads of people are not comfortable with.:woman_shrugging:t5::man_shrugging:t5:

What if we made a sports culture but instead of smelling like body odor because they work out all the time

Everyone just smelled awful because they’re too lazy to stop poop socking and take a shower

I will never understand the draw of esports to be honest. Dont get me wrong, I love watching Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, or the Game Grumps play either horror or rage inducing games but I could just never get into pvp as a sporting event.

The appeal of even that is mysterious to me. Esports are utterly baffling.

From a corporate standpoint, I suspect Blizzard wants to make League-levels of money. I have zero idea how they intend to do that, though, since their games have never really lent themselves to such. Canceling HotS’ eSports league probably did a lot of damage (who’d want to join a league that could be canceled in a second?)

From a gamer standpoint, I don’t understand, either. I play video games mostly to swing axes around and scream in a judgment-free zone.

Unless they’re an evil hordie!

Then it’s all judgement all the time. Gurl u make retribution paladins jealous.

(Sorry I couldn’t help myself)

Are you not struck by the irony that you swept in to dictate what I (we?) can and can’t say? If you don’t like the term, don’t use it–but you’re not gonna sit there and tell me I can’t define myself that way because it makes someone else, totally unrelated, uncomfortable.

Also “history be damned” doesn’t work in this context because entire generations of people fought and died–like, millions of people over the last few decades–for the right to reclaim the word “queer.”

I didn’t see Floren dictating anything to anyone though… they said they weren’t comfortable with it, and that some other people also aren’t.

Edit: They actually specified that they aren’t telling anyone what they can or can’t say.

I’ve been the resident Forum Queer since 2012 and I’m here to say that the q can be generally considered to be for both but it is most definitely used in part to denote ‘queer’.

Also, the a stands for asexual, not ally, and more terms covered by the acronym have been used as slurs, not just ‘queer’. As it turns out, that tends to happen when there’s people out there who think that anything that isn’t cis and straight is an insult.

Or did you forget the campaigns to get people to stop calling things they disliked ‘gay’?

I remember some kid in a cyber cafe calling me gay when I was 12, to insult me. And I said “yeah, so?” and he got super freaked out.

It’s always funny to see that reaction.

It’s really rather bold of you…of anyone to claim they’re more queerer than me.

Are y’all seriously having a queer contest in here

Sorry, Khin. I’m willing to use deadly force to claim King Queer.

I wanna ask a question for real, genuinely.

Is it considered largely offensive or not to just say LGBT+?

I am older than both Khin and Radishes and I know it, so that makes me The Elder Queer.

Oh frick I’ve been called out… I’ll settle with Prince Queer then. Until we discover time machines to make me older than Solafina.
