The Ana Bastet challenge is live. Just have to win 9 matches in QP/Comp/Arcade to get the skin and there are twitch streams to watch if you want unique sprays.
This has also reminded me that there are still quite a few people that inexplicably believe that all gay men act like the stereotypical gay best friend in a sitcom.
(There are quite a few people stating that S76 being gay doesnt fit with one particularly bigoted person saying “S76 is a Soldier not a fairy ballet”)
While I fully believe that Blizzard is pulling a Rowling and trying to throw in after-the-fact diversity I really really love the idea of these characters having been designed to be gay from the get-go, but the devs sat on that information in order to sucker the FPS base into playing them, only to reveal it years later just to elicit this kind of screeching.
And I do so love all of the inept childish screeching going on. It reminds me of all the fragile little egos that shattered because Finn was a black Stormtrooper.
Also I’ve seen quite a few “I’m uninstalling” posts, because apparently two out of what, 28 characters, being gay has irreparably ruined the game for them.
Guess it should be pointed out that this was likely a decision made a long time ago, and that Chu and Kaplan’s constant praise for Metzen allowing them use of Soldier 76 (which was his original character) has everything to do with this. Chu and Kaplan have been very vocal about Metzen being the original creator of 76. Metzen also liked a post yesterday on Twitter about the reveal, because he probably knew about it and gave it his blessing.
I don’t know why the lore is rolling out so slowly, but I can tell you they’re probably going to continue finding ways to keep these things separate from their Chinese and Russian markets. That doesn’t mean that 76 won’t go onto have a romantic relationship, or that Tracer’s relationship won’t appear more actively on screen in the future: it just means they have a bottom line with the OWL and they’re not going to jeopardize those markets.
Overall, though: some of you guys need to learn to talk about lgbtq+ like they’re in the room, and not in the condescending “supportive” way that only dehumanizes us more. The next straight person to make a glitter / rainbow / fabulous comment can meet me in the pit.
Wait…no. I…as the resident queer of the forums I feel compelled to point out the Q in LGBTQIA+ is for questioning not queer. We as a community understand that not all of us choose to reclaim the word queer and that’s not what it stands for. The Q was put in as a way to validate those who are in the beginning of their LGBTQIA+ journey. There are no slurs in LGBTQIA+.
I also feel like…as the resident autistic…maybe it was a joke and I took it literally?
Right, that’s kind of the point. And also why we don’t need the A to stand for “ally”. It already includes everyone who doesn’t feel compelled to shout “THERE ARE ONLY TWO GENDERS” or “IT WAS ADAM AND EVE”. I mean, we’re (mostly) a pretty inclusive community. =)
I use q for queer. I’m queer. Prefer it not to be labeled as a slur, but like I’ve said in other threads I’m not looking to get into this kind of discussion when I’m browsing ye olde orc forums.
I think you should check your history, dude. The “debate” over whether it’s “queer” or “questioning” has been going for like 5000 years, since the moon was made, so stating “actually it’s this one and you’re wrong” isn’t going to accomplish anything.
