yeah, Blizzard should learn from Riot. Like how NOT to allow sexual discrimination and harassment to run rampant throughout your workplace.
and LoL is considered to be THE most toxic game out there. I mean, I played WoW PvP and it just goes into calling people trash. At least wow pvp isn’t full of folks screaming racist words, slurs and death threats.
lastly, isn’t LoL also the same "anti-fun profit maximizing measures that involve releasing broken champions day 1 and you either have to sink real world money or enjoy grinding to get them.
Considering the state of California is saying that the plaintiffs in one of the cases are entitled to closer to 400 million and rejected the 10 million dollar settlement.
And then the most recent accusation against the CEO (Riot Games is going to investigate itself… so… that’s kind of a “Dude, trust us” scenario). A MMO from them… may never happen.
Oh and… Everyone should learn from Riot Games on what exactly to not do and what exactly to not allow in the workplace.
that’s the point. The idea was meant to be sarcasm as folks love to put Riot as a bastion compared to Blizzard. Sure Blizzard isn’t perfect, but at least Blizzard doesn’t allow sexual harassment in the workplace
I don’t think you understand. LoL is toxic, yes, but that’s because it’s a PvP game ONLY. There is no co-op PvE. Every competitive game will get increasingly more stressful and toxic as you go up the ladder. That includes Counter-strike GO and others, which have implemented features and extra measures to combat toxicity. I have screenshots in WoW of an RBG player calling others the N word over and over, from this season. Do you want to see?
The point is that WoW does not have in-game features to reduce toxicity, except a report that is probably less reliable than in other games. There are no commendations or player likability, or “social reputation” features.
There are also lots of game mechanics that incentivize selfish actions. e.g. you leave a group if your legendary doesn’t drop off the first boss. They avoided this in Legion, supposedly, but I guess they forgot.
The sexual harassment lawsuit is irrelevant, since I was talking about game design. It’s not clever for you to bring it up when I’m talking about game design. You are given a screen to commend other players after every match, and you lose your competitive rewards if you are reported often for toxicity. Now, an anti-toxicity culture has developed to somewhat quell the toxicity of other players. More and more players abide by “norms” now that are about not venting your frustration into the chat. That doesn’t really exist in WoW. WoW toxicity is rising, and League toxicity is either standing still or falling.
Sadly that’s whats lost other games my support.
GW2, FF, Tera, Wildstar, ESO. so many others.
As much as I love these games… all of their failing points are all that they do not support me, so I cannot support them.
Some I would jump to in a heartbeat should they fix this simple fault…
Riot do have Oceanic servers though… So that at least alone has bought my initial attention.
Wrong. I can’t post links, but Google “Blizzard Entertainment sexual harassment”, and you will see recent articles of not only sexual harassment charges, as well as serious racial discrimination allegations that they failed to deal with. It’s really pointless to argue about their workplace environment, since I was talking about GAME DESIGN, and we can do nothing but speculate. But please don’t think you won a point for naming a recent Riot scandal and being unaware of Blizzard scandals.
issue with a game like this is it probably wont last long.
LoL is Riot’s bread and butter, their breadwinner, their little baby… so any other games will always be second and not get as much attention as their main title. We see this time and time again when game developers release side projects or games other than their flagship title.
I don’t want to seem like I am a hardcore Riot defender, but come on… Riot released “Teamfight Tactics”, which shares most graphical assets as the main game. But it is a distinct game, and is therefore accessed from the same pre-game client. Teamfight Tactics gets as many viewers as World of WarCraft on Twitch, and Blizzard cheats on Twitch by not separating World of WarCraft Retail from World of WarCraft Classic.
I am both eager to see any new MMO and also ultra skeptical. If it’s another WoW clone then it’s a hard pass. Games like EQ and WoW launched with the hotbar full of abilities style combat system because the internet and computers in general sucked back then. I think the biggest mistake MMO makers have made since then is they keep copying that button mashing style of combat when it no longer needs to be that way.
While I am rambling, its really too bad Destiny is 99% shooter and only 1% MMOG.
EQ wasn’t like that. Attack, kick, bash and maybe level 20 disarm. Then you had spells but could only have 10 memorize out of your book to choose from.
I miss that combat. I don’t mind auto attacking most of the time, with just a well placed kick as needed (BTW kick and bash shared the same cooldown)
