Ghost crawler and the old devs loved this game , now it’s just a shell of what it was . Only thing actiblizz does now is see how much time investment they can create . Even the new loot changes coming in the next patch . Nothing for mythic plus , just an upgrade person , which means you need to do a lot of stuff to upgrade . They didn’t correct the low loot chance drop rate . Absurd .
I’ve never played LoL and don’t like mobas much in general but I’m interested in their MMO if they want to actually try something new. But I’m guessing it’ll be another shallow WoW clone.
I’m amped for it because its picking up a lot of the WoW staff blizzard laid off.
Ghostcrawler is a good dev, and takes a realistic view of things.
My reason for prefering him as a lead is painfully simple: I don’t think he would lie to us like Ion does.
I think they are going to avoid many of the mistakes Blizzard made in overusing unwanted systems and broken mechanics.
Now, I don’t know the first thing about LoL but I do think the MMO’s development team has all the things I would want the devs to have access to. Bellular has a great video released about a month ago detailing the budget and cherrypicking Riot can do, especially since they can and will offer higher and more competitive wages and benefits than Blizzard does.
Wowkiller? No. But probably a strong contender in the MMO market in the future.
I’m keeping an eye on this and Ashes of Creation, for very different reasons. Both sound like they can improve the Genre.
One thing I am sure of: Competition will increase the effort WoW has to put in to vie for our time, and even if I don’t end up playing LoL or AoC if they end up forcing blizzard to spend more time polishing content and improve the conditions of it’s workforce to prevent poaching, which is almost certainly happening right now, then I as a player end up winning.
As a side note - Ghostcrawler has given me more constructive feedback on his experiences in WoW this expansion than Ion has, and he doesn’t even work for blizzard anymore. Take that for what it’s worth.
I doubt anyone sane is getting pumped or afraid of any impact on WoW. Probably looking at 2026 or 2027 for a Riot release unless it turns out to be a mobile mmo.
If Blizzard maintains their past cycles, WoW 10.x will be released in 2022, WoW 11.x will be released in 2024, and WoW 12.x will be released in 2026. So a Riot mmo would be competing against a WoW three iterations in the future.
Blizzard underpays it’s staff compared to the rest of the industry. The staff who COULD leave Blizzard for a massive pay increase at Riot, the ones who had excellent resumes, recommendations, etc? Those are the ones who have been poached by Riot, Snowgiant, and Dreamhaven’s incubators.
There is a general consensus online that WoW has been on a decline for the past decade, give or take a bit. While the steepness of the decline is certainly up for debate, and arguments could be made for spikes where the quality goes up at times, I would wager that three iterations from now will help the competition more than it helps Blizzard.
