I’ll tell you why, it was marketed as a reward for a time-limited event, that people relied on - in good faith. To reneg would be bad faith and unfair to players that relied on their word to earn something that would be distinct, and time locked. And it would be grossly unfair to reneg on that time locked reward and not open up allll the other ones.
Some people don’t care, even those that got, but some do, myself included.
Anyway, that being said, because the items in there were so truly unique, with no precedent elsewhere in game to obtain, for example the bear rig - it seems punitive to keep that locked in time to other players. Considering they are going to offer a new bipedal bear, well then, in my view, may as well do the right thing and just offer a recolour of all the original appearances but not the original colours. That’s something I think is fair, having slogged to get it the first time, and it gives people like me something new and fun to shoot for and others that didn’t get it the first time an opportunity at some truly unique items.
But again, this has all been hashed out over and over in all the multiple other active threads in the feed right now.
Not trying to make you feel bad, I was trying to enlighten you. “They have it, why can’t I have it”.
You weren’t here, seeing these things gives you a reason to stay, so you can participate in the next event.

Just because some people live on the forums doesn’t mean you have to try your best to obliterate others who come to voice their opinion/concern/thoughts/etc.
I appreciate what you are saying about the way that expansion worked. And honestly, I wish that I had played that whole expansion because it honestly had some of the best content. But I didn’t and I am just asking for a way to earn that stuff myself now.
the first reply in your post started in on the insults, and frankly, that’s generally how these threads go - people who want it back call those who don’t entitled, selfish, etc.
The mage tower was presented to us as limited time. Many of us pushed hard to level characters, learn new specs, gear up, and fight the tower bosses to get the appearances we wanted. We did so because we were told they were never coming back and we had to get them during that patch if we wanted them.
Blizzard going back on that now would not be ok. As Rhuor said:

Especially when you are bleeding subs, I would think you would want to do whatever you could to entice folks back and/or give new players opportunities to have a go at older content.
As I mentioned, until threads started mentioning “the promise”, I had no idea such a compact was established between blizzard and the community.
The reason why so many people want them is due to how good the actual appearance is. I played extremely casual during legion so I was able to get some of the appearances.
My main issue is when looking to transmog my rogue I prefer weapons on the back and the fact that the assasin rogue artifact weapons sheath on the back is why I wish I had made more time into actually getting them due to real life commitments.
That being said the challenges themselves weren’t overly difficult so people saying it was super hard are either stretching the truth or just bad at the game.
Ironically I find that the people so adamant about keeping it exclusive are a ok with mythic gear sets being recolored but not artifact weapons.
I have probably one of the most exclusive titles in the game and maybe have had 2-4 people whisper me since Cata about it. Most people don’t actually care about other people’s looks. If I see someone transmogged similar to myself I don’t really care.
I don’t want the original appearances brought back, but I’m 100% ok with recolors of every one of the mage tower items. I think the recolor werebear form was a good solution, but they could take it further.
And that’s absolutely fine! I’m happy we both can understand each other. I absolutely respect that you want these items, and as I said I think Blizzard should have just given us new recolors rather than gone the route of a set of gear that already existed in two parts of the game. However, I will counter bringing back the old colors, but that’s just my opinion.

When making a new transmog set, I have never once not used something because it was common, or used something only because it was rare. I wear what looks good with the design idea I have.
That’s just me, but I can’t be the only one who couldn’t care less.
Exactly–if they put as much effort into all the gear appearances, maybe this wouldn’t be an issue. But so much of the gear in the game just looks bad or not good for your character or class.
Appreciate you spelling it out in a way that I have clearly struggled to do so.
I do appreciate you taking the time to reply though and I agree, if they offered some recolors of the weapons, I would be happy to work to earn those. There are plenty of colors under the rainbow left for them to play with there.
It kills me because as a rogue I want sets that look like a rogue set and not all these flashy bulky items. Imagine trying to sneak around with giant shoulders lol.
I fail to see how people trying to earn rewards now that you earned before diminishes you in any way.
And as I have mentioned elsewhere, if Blizz put as much care and attention to detail across all the xpacs re: gear and weapon design, maybe this wouldn’t even be an issue. But when some of the best looking stuff is time locked and only available to some who played at a specific time, that just sucks.
But I get that you and others find enjoyment at that exclusivity. I just wish there was a way that folks could get in on it some how.
You’re conveniently forgetting a lot of people would just stop playing this game if they did what you wanted, not everyone wants to play a game that has no exclusives and nothing is special.
