That model was old, and I’m a bit tired of the Stag look.

If I saw a picture of this new Cheetah and was asked to identify it… I would have failed. I mean I probably would have said Leopard. I like the model, but the artist’s impression is … a little weird.

the problem with it is not the color (even though it’s too dark) or the cartoony filter; it’s the recycled skeleton from the Zandalari cat form.
It looks too stocky in the front, the back legs are not tall enough, the backbone is too short, the head is too large, the ears are pointy, etc.
It looks more like a lynx or bobcat than an actual cheetah, even though it has a long tail.
I think it’s an improvement over the pixelated mess we have Live, but I don’t particularly like it.

Honestly I like it myself, and I’m glad they kept the saber teeth . . . with the newer druid cat forms I was afraid they were abandoning the smilodon like fangs for their wild cats, always gave wow big cats a distinct look

As long as they don’t call it a cheetah, I have no problem with it. It looks like a nice generic fantasy cat, somewhat like a lynx, but not exactly.
But if they call it a cheetah, then we will never actually have cheetah models. It takes them +5 years to make a new druid form.

I mean it’s not a 1 to 1 but the old one wasn’t exactly cheetah like either . . . even less so actually and was often used interchangeably as a leopard through out the world. Matter of fact it was the same model as Azeroth’s tigers, panthers, pumas, lionesses, snow leopards, white tigers, leopards, fictional night saber species, and the Cringer inspired variant from felwood. They got a lot of mileage out of that saber tooth cat model.
Edit: I think vanilla WoW actually only had like 6 big cat models. The saber tooth lion, basic saber tooth cat, night elf druid cat form (later recycled for lynxes), tauren druid cat form (nightmare fuel), nightsaber mounts, and the later epic variant.

I hate the old one too. Yes, they really just need to make new skelletons, not just skins.

That’s fair, though if you look at druid cat animations they did actually get an update in terms of movement, one that should be applied to the wild cats as well.
Edit: they are more feline like in movement now, it either happened at the tail end of legion or in BFA along with the raptor and bear animations.
