I highly doubt that blizzard specifically told her what to put in each page of the book. Oversight’s happen. It’s one page saying it, if it was entirely based around it then I would agree with you. But it isn’t. It’s one page. An oversight that should be fixed unless they decide to use the cop out that the alliance misunderstand.
I don’t think you realize how disconnected each department is from the next one. Particularly if she is saying its from Shaw’s point of view, then it means this is what the Alliance thinks, and not what actually happened.
Considering the developers and chronicle’s both speak from a view that is worldly in its scope, it makes sense if an Alliance character didn’t know what was going on and drew such a conclusion.
Or it should stay as an Alliances perspective on how they view Blood Elves.
Christie Golden has literally said that they do.
When authors work for Blizzard in any capacity, they are given the plot points for a book, and then they have to build a story around them.
https://youtu.be/O3uzFQ_n88k?t=579 Here is Chris Metzen explaining it (starting at 9:39). Please note how specific he is on what they’re doing.
Yep, this basically confirms what the book is saying. They’ve been siphoning demonic energies to sate their magical addiction.
So yeah, they were addicted to fel.
They’re not now, but they were.
And the Warcraft Encyclopedia, a dev QnA and Chronicle all confirm that Illidan only taught Kael and the blood elves on Outland how to siphon fel. Rommath was then sent back to Azeroth to teach them how to mana tap, but only taught them to tap Arcane energies.
So, you’re admitting that it was retconned from what Chris Metzen clearly says there.
I can’t help but throw a Poké Ball at you. Your name is so cute
Really wish the high elves in Allerian Stronghold had green eyes… Major continuity issue there.
I read the Chronicle, it doesn’t actually state anything about what energy the Blood Elves tapped into or drained. The WoW encyclopedia is now completely outdated and is no longer viewable on the official website, and the Dev Q&A also doesn’t state that they didn’t drain fel magic, rather it states that even if a blood elf did not tap into fel magic, their eyes would still have turned green due to exposure.
No, because the BC commentary track also says the same thing, that they only learnt to tap arcane energies. That commentary track was completed before release, roughly the same time as that video. Clearly those two things are in conflict, but one of them was literally never repeated again.
Obviously I can’t speak for Chris Metzen, but if I had to guess I’d say he misspoke.
This here.
You don’t need to consume something to be addicted to it. Just being around it is enough for you to be addicted to its presence. That’s what I’m getting here - I’m not seeing the retcon or oversight anywhere.
Except that this isn’t true, otherwise, the night elves and other elven based races would have been addicted to fel and this is not the case. Particularly the high elves in Outland who were living in the area as Outland is constantly surrounded by fel energy, and yet they send you off to obtain magical relics for them to utilize.,
let alone that if fel energy alone can cause addiction, why does this not manifest in other races at any point?
Furthermore, why were the developers explicit in the QnA’s about the blood elves not siphoning fel energy from demons?
The WoW encyclopedia was copied into Wowpedia. It being an old piece of literature does not make it irrelevant. That’s like saying Lord of the Rings story has no relevance to Silmarallion.
Page 139, Chronicle 3. It says Illidan had taught them to siphon magic, but Kael wanted more and so he turned to fel energies. If he’d been using fel magic all along, that would sort of be a bit weird for him to turn to fel energies because he wanted more magic than the fel energies he’d been consuming.
Wasn’t she the author that mistakenly said Greymane and worgen had tails?
#giveworgentails
Yeah okay, #giveworgentails.
Did you know that at around 9:50 he mentioned “how to siphon arcane energies from the air” as well?
Did you think people would stick to the first part and ignore the rest? Like…
Airc why must you always mis-represent everything? Its habitual with you.
I don’t recall Night Elves using Fel stones to power Darnassus?
And those elves should have had green eyes and yet they had blue eyes. Sadly, lore isn’t usually reflected well in the game.
Perhaps because different races don’t have the same addictions? I don’t know. That’s something you’ll have to ask Danuser or Afrasiabi directly I’m afraid.
Because Blood Elves (in general) did not siphon Fel.
