I don’t know where in the hell the decided to make it Pelagos. Sylvanas is the easy answer because it solves several problems.
But Pelagos is like tier 2 out of 8 in the Bastion ranking hierarchy. He is a novice with no real impact or influence. The only noteworthy thing about him is that he had a female body in life. That’s it.
I guess he’s a good pick but its so weird because he hasn’t even been able to pass the kyrian trials (but to be fair we almost know nothing about them anyway) and he has crippling self doubt and next to no self esteem. Why on earth would he be chosen to be arbiter apart from “oh look it’s someone who you kind of know look it’s an emotional moment!” like seriously.
Unless almost all of 9.2 is showing us how he changes and grows as a person to then become the arbiter, this’ll be a real hard sell.
Will he change to resemble the Automa? Will he become that Golden One who seeks a vacant throne with the crown he seeks bringing only Darkness as Il’gynoth prophesized?
i get you typed spoilers in the title but you have put the actual spoil so close to the start of the thread if you mouse over it at all it shows anyway lol
i hate to say this as it will sound SUS but pelegos is /was actually a femle in life and he goes on about how he never felt right when alive so i say this is blizz sneaky way of adding inclusion to the game as players can nolonger claim there are no major NPCs that represent the lgbtq+ community as he will be one of the most important NPCs in the game at that point
Yeah, the selection feels about as off-kilter as making someone like Bran into the king. That would make no sense. He’s like the least-foreshadowed candidate for king in a forest of people more foreshadowed and more appropriate.
But really, back to WoW, the idea that they need to make a mortal spirit into a new Arbiter ought to be rejected outright for the plot. They’ve done nothing to earn such a plotline - zero discussion of needing a mortal to replace the Arbiter in 9.0 or 9.1. And they’re literally at the engine for designing systems of creation, which ought to have lended itself to a more creative solution than copying “there must always be a Lich King.”
If we are stuck with this terrible mortal-soul-becoming-Arbiter plotline, Pelagos is a terrible choice. Even if they were going to go with “elevating a Shadowlands-based character” they shouldn’t have chosen him. Maybe the only mortal-soul character we’ve spent time with who gives the sense of being a harsh-but-fair-and-compassionate judge of character, and of having eons of gained wisdom for assessing people, is the Accuser.
The only good news? Maybe in four expansions we’ll get to see Sylvanas show up in Oribos to beat the crap out of Pelagos, where she’ll break the Arbiter essence inside him, and open a portal to the Even-More-Shadowy-Lands.
