It sounds somewhat similar, but Bran Stark had some big roles on the show.

Pelagos did not even have what is called lore within the Bastion.

It’s just PUT THIS LGBT CHARACTER THERE, and we’ll see that we’re cool with this new generation audience not Blizzard?.

If this is indeed the case, and Pelagos does in fact become the Arbiter, it’ll lack a coherent narrative like the one seen for Yrel (who also had an expansion cut short, but her ascension in power was well earned, even as it progressed later via the Mag’har allied race unlock scenario).

The narrative decision to make Pelagos the Arbiter is fairly suspect for the following reasons:

  • Blizzard is (and has been) under fire for mistreatment of their female, trans, and other minority employees.
  • The legal circumstances and bad PR are affecting Blizzard’s bottom line.
  • Blizzard has been accused of “virtue signaling” (hypocrites) by placing a co-lead female only to have her resign due to some of the very reasons blizzard has been getting bad PR for in the first place (claiming she was a victim of such things in the past, unequal pay, etc).
  • Lots of minority groups (minority commonly being interpreted as, “anyone that isn’t a straight white male”) have individuals who clamor for representation in entertainment. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, it creates a scape-goatable method to “virtue signal” (good action done for a transparently poor reason).

It doesn’t matter that Pelagos is trans, no such limitations on gender identity have ever been hinted at in the slightest as a requirement for becoming an/the Arbiter.

What matters is that his character hasn’t narratively earned it… and as such, the choice of him becoming the arbiter is immediately suspect for the reasons I mentioned above. “Virtue signaling” does not narratively justify any character’s progression, and it certainly isn’t sufficient to replace missing narrative.

I’m not into politics ,that’ll only mess things up more ,and mess me up, thinking too much on it.

I’m hoping this is a red herring. Pelagos being the Arbiter is just more tokenism from Blizzard.

There is also that. datamining is still suspect until true.

Well it could be worse, it could have been Sylvanas

I would have liked the same, LGBT characters that but has relevance, characters that have had a better purpose and how they have won so that they have this destiny.

They are like a Tom Holland and like someone else who has not won without any effort.

And the worst thing that the company uses to stay well for the purposes of political ideologies, it thinks that the company is with the community.

But when we see their only purpose we see that they have not changed and only use for their business purposes, and their ambitions, it does not serve anything relevant to the quality of the video game, it only does it because they forced it to do so.

That’s not true. Kyrian players can speak to him in their hold and select an extra piece of dialog that explains he’s trans.

where does this happen exactly? everytime i’ve interacted with pelago at elysian hold he’s never had any kind of dialogue for me?

Covenant hall by the mission table

Maybe in time ,with newer ideas they can develop a better story line ,one that can demonstrate that relationship and help people with such needs to relate to. People do need meanings, stories do help those that long for references to there lives, games do help on this matter if they are done respectfully.

Pelagos strikes me as being too desperate to want to be liked to be an effective arbiter.

“I’m afraid you must spend eternity in the Maw for your crimes”

“Yeah, I didn’t expect you to be cool.”

“I’m cool! Kleia told me so!”

“Nah… a cool arbiter would have sent me to Revendreth.”

“Did I say Maw? You must have misheard me I meant…”

It’s hard to care about the new/old Arbiter when I’m desperately trying to pretend that nothing in SL is actually canon in the Warcraft universe.

This is so bad.

Oh man, I could go off about that for days on end. I’m forever salty about the last season of GoT. lol They did everyone dirty with a ton of character development being thrown out the window.

It makes sense with his storyline. And that part of the Kyrian Campaign with the Ardenweald Night Fae who sacrificed herself. Guess those were good plot seeds to have.

I am sad since he is one of my favorite shadowlands characters. But hopefully he will keep his personality as the arbiter.
